First United Methodist Churchwww.albionfirst.orgfind us on Facebook600 East Michigan AvenueAlbion, MI 49224Since we’re four weeks into our walk withMoses (two more Sundays to go, so don’t missout!), you can imagine I’ve been reading a lotabout him lately. Moses was a complicatedman.Saved as an infant, he was raised in thePharaoh’s household so he knew power andinfluence from an early age. But after steppingin to protect a Hebrew slave who was beingbeaten, Moses was forced to flee the only homehe had ever known – a fugitive from the veryruler who was once family.Moses rebuilt his life in a new place. He wouldnever be rich and powerful again, but hemarried and started a family. Presumably, hehad created a comfortable new life until oneday while tending his family’s sheep on themountainside, he encountered God in aburning bush of all places.October 2017Christian SympathyLeadership ListingPrayersThank YouWorship in October2Church Picture DirectoryHealthy Babies DayIt’s a Girl!UMW News and Views3A Tree for Florence4Events in the WoodsMusical HistoryUpcoming Dates to RememberCalendar5Moses was lucky enough to have the one thingmost of us long for – a direct encounter withthe Almighty and clear instructions. God’srequest of Moses was unmistakable – go back toEgypt, confront Pharaoh and tell him to let mypeople.Understandably, Moses was not exactly gung-hoabout this call. Who would willingly go back toa place where he wasn’t safe to confront a manwho wanted him dead? Moses came up withplenty of excuses, but God never relented. Most of us know the rest of the story. Moseswent. We may never hear God’s voice calling to usfrom a burning bush, but God is calling us allthe same. That tiny little voice that nudges usto connect with an old friend, make amends fora past wrong or support a worthy cause. Couldthat be God? Maybe it’s a loud, insistent voiceFollow Jesus; Love Everyone
