BACK TO CONTENTSSASE FRAMEWORKS - SOME GENERAL PRINCIPLESIn addition to the details within SASE, the following sections of this guidance document providefurther clarity regarding acceptable qualifications for the English, Maths and ICT requirementswithin Intermediate and Advanced SASE frameworks. Please note that Higher Apprenticeships nolonger have English and Maths qualifications as mandatory requirements. When trying to establish if a learner has a qualification that is acceptable within a SASE framework, please refer to the list of qualifications included within SASE. If the qualification achieved by alearner does not match any of the qualifications listed (and their stated minimum grade/level criteria) then it cannot be accepted.PLEASE NOTE: All English qualifications should refer only to those qualifications where English is the primarylanguage, unless explicitly stated. GCSE qualifications should be ones regulated by Ofqual, CCEA and Qualifications Wales. British Sign Language qualifications are only acceptable where BSL is the Apprentice's primarylanguage. English and Maths qualifications at a higher level (e.g Level 4 and above) will be acceptable. ForScotland this is qualifications at SCQF Level 7 or above. For exemptions to English and Maths minimum requirements please refer to Section 18 onwardsof current SASE.'Z Z Yh/Z D Ed SASE states minimum grade requirements for each type of qualification that is acceptable. These canbe different for Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeships. Where SASE does not state a minimumFunctional Skills/Key Skills/GCSE (with enhanced functional content) qualifications account forgrade requirement then any pass grade is acceptable. However, it is essential to check specific5 credits each towards the total credit value of the framework.Apprenticeship framework requirements as framework developers may have set grades that areabove the minimum level required by SASE.CREDIT VALUESFunctional Skills/Key Skills/GCSE (with Enhanced Functional Content) qualifications account for 5credits each towards the total credit value of the framework2
