Blue Mountains & PenrithWoodworking Club inc.FineCutNext meeting is on Tuesday September 20th at 7.PM. The Annual General Meeting. The Saturday meeting will be the following Saturday 24th from 0900.September 2016Presidents ReportExecutive Committee2015 / 2016The last few meetings have seen some more interesting activities for our Club, requests for display Jewellery boxes and completion of the croquet mallets from an earlier display at the Mid Mountains Expo at Lawson.PresidentPhil Knight 47395303TuesdayOur Tuesday meeting had a demonstration of box joints by Phil Tonks using ahomemade jig.Vice PresidentPhil Tonks 9625 9202Phil also showed the commercial jigs (see photo) and the advantages and disadvantages of each. After Phil’s initial demonstration using our triton router table we(led by Safety officer Ray) suggested a few changes to increase user safety. This included limiting the travel of the jig and placing covers just after the router bitto reduce bit exposure during operation. I then made my own set of box joints usingthis setup and it worked very smoothly with all joints fitting tightly.Robert also made his box (see photo, next page) including cutting the groove for thebase to slide into using the supplied Gifkins router bit.SecretaryRay Barrett 47393502TreasurerIan Griffiths 47313045Publicity / Safety OfficerRay BarrettMeanwhile others worked on the croquet mallets, which are or very near completion. Actually, I think they may have been delivered already.Committee / First AidOfficer & NewsletterDaniel Clift47392782SaturdayThis meeting had Phil Tonks outside putting four square faces on the shaft on thecroquet mallet handles. However, he had a small hiccup and severely splintered theshaft. Craig Hubbard suggested a few simple modifications to the jig and it workedwell. Craig was also taking a prospective member through some basic wood turningon our lathe.Equipment Officer,& Catering OfficerPhilip KnightProjects andDemonstrationsJan was finishing the faces on the croquet mallets using some UHMW material(ultra high molecular weight.), bread board material gluing it on with poly glue, whichI am lead to believe is satisfactory for this environment.Meanwhile I was helping Robert with practice cutting tenons for his small table using the beast with a very blunt blade.Doug CoxEmail;bmpwcinc@gmail.comThe club had recently bought a set of ring and open-ended spanners that came in afoam case so I simply rearranged a panel saw and then screwed the foam case onto the inside of our tool cupboard. This means that the spanners are visible, easily accessible and it obvious wherethey go and when they are missing. The big BONUS is that we can see where theyshould GO BACK to!.While every care is taken to ensure accuracy, the editor and publisher will notaccept responsibility for any inaccuracies in articles or information contained inFine CutPostal AddressP. THE FINE CUTSeptember-SPECIAL EDITION BREAKING NEWSG’day all,Just letting all of you who couldn’t attend last night’s AGM know thatthere were two important decisions made which effect everyone;1.It was resolved by majority decision, that after the Xmas break theClub will meet on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, withthe Tuesday night Meetings being abandoned. This decision was madeas Tuesday night attendances were not good, with some Membersadvising it was too cold to come out in the Winter months, and/or notwanting to drive at night any more.Because it is such a dramatic change from the normal, this change willbe trialled for an initial six months, and a Special Meeting will be held tocontinue this change or not. This will commence on Saturday 14 January 2017 – hours 9.00 AM to3.00 PM.2. As the GGA have recently increased our Rent it was resolved that ourAttendance fees at a Saturday Workshop Meeting shouldbe increased from the current 6.00 to 8.00.This too will commence on Saturday 14 January 2017.Please see one of the newly re-elected Committee for more informationon these matters.3. Disappointingly, there were no new Members elected onto theExecutive, General Committee or the Support team this year, sofollowing is a list of those elected;President:Vice President:Secretary:Treasurer:General Committee #1:Philip KnightPhilip TonksRay BarrettIan GriffithsDaniel CliftNOTE: there are two more positions available for General
