Basic WoodworkingValley Oaks Charter SchoolMr. Warren, 661-345-2814towarren@kern.orgClass SyllabusBasic Woodworking is for students of all skill levels who are serious about learning to work with wood andmachines. Students will progress in their knowledge of woodworking by completing daily homework assignmentsand practical hands-on application of increasingly more difficult projects. This is a 5.0 unit per semester class. Student shall learn a variety of basic woodworking skills by completing four successive projects designed tointroduce new techniques, methods, and machines. A passing score of 75% on each project is required before student may advance to the next skill set project Student shall research and report findings on a variety of basic woodworking topics and methods.Requirements: Google Account: Homework agendas will be loaded weekly on google classroom. In order for the student toget weekly homework, the student shall set up a google account using the class code: eck6iql Woodworking projects: Student shall draw plans for and construct a minimum of three projects. Projects anddesigns are due every five weeks. Student is not to begin cutting wood for the next project until previousproject is complete and graded. Tests: Student shall complete four exams involving multiple choice, group testing, and oral presentation. Homework: Student shall complete daily homework assignments. Homework packets will be handed out atthe beginning of each unit. Homework is due every Friday. Work Ethic: Students shall demonstrate cooperation, diligence, and good behavior in class. Evaluation: Students shall follow the S.H.O.P. C.O.D.E. (Safety, Honesty, Openness to learn, Productivity,Consideration of others, Orderliness, Diligence, and pursuit of Excellence) Absences: Absent students must complete an Absentee Assignment, which is available at the front desk in theHigh School Office. Failure to do so will result in a daily work ethic score of “0” for day(s) missed.Grade reporting: Students and parents may keep track of their grades by accessing their ABI account online. Your signatureauthorizes your child to use the woodshop equipment, power tools, and woodworking machinery after he/she hasbeen certified to do so. No student will at any time be forced to use the power equipment. However, no student willbe permitted to use power equipment unless this form is properly signed and filed in the Valley Oaks Charter School(VOCS) office.AgreementWith my signature below, I hereby agree that my child, mayreceive instruction and training in the VOCS woodshop to use the shop equipment, power tools, and woodworkingmachines provided in the shop.
