MBBS COURSE - 2020MBBS COURSE - 2020A total of 150 candidates (including 05 Govt. sponsored candidates from FriendlyForeign Countries) will be selected in the year 2020, of which 145 (115 boys and 30 girls)will be selected as Medical Cadets for imparting training (including MBBS course) at theArmed Forces Medical College Pune with liability to get commissioned in the ArmedForces Medical Services as Medical Officers. The candidates selected in addition tobecoming doctors will also be functioning as officers of the Indian Armed Forces,wherein, they have to be both physically and psychologically robust to be able toundergo the rigors of life in the Armed Forces. The selected candidates need to haveleadership qualities, effective communication skills and exacting physical standards, asthe same are prime requisites for serving officers of the Armed Forces.

2GENERAL INFORMATIONIntroduction1.Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune is a premier medical institute of India. TheCollege is a Centre of Excellence for medical education and research. It was initially established in1948 for postgraduate courses. The graduate wing for the MBBS course was started on 04 Aug1962 with the aim of inducting medical graduates to the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS).Presently the college provides training to Graduate, Post-Graduate & Post-Doctoral medical andnursing students with assured career prospects in the defence services.AFMC Pune is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik and isrecognized by the Medical Council of India.2.Course Duration3. The duration of the MBBS course is 4 ½ years followed by compulsory rotating internshiptraining of one year. All medical cadets commissioned into the AFMS will undergo internshiptraining in selected service hospitals recognized by the Medical Council of India.4. ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATIONS FORADMISSION TO MBBS COURSE -2020General6.A candidate seeking admission to the MBBS Course in AFMC is eligible if he / she fulfils thefollowing criteria:(a)The candidate should be a citizen of India. Foreign nationals of Indian origin may beadmitted into AFMC only after they have acquired Indian Citizenship or in respect of whom theMinistry of Home Affairs issues a certificate of eligibility. This however does not apply to the 05Govt Sponsored Candidates from Friendly Foreign Countries.(b)Must be unmarried. ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATIONS FORADMISSION TO MBBS COURSE -2020Academic Qualifications7.Candidates must have passed one of the qualifying examinations listed at sub-para (a) to (j)below in the first attempt with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken simultaneously andsecuring not less than 60% of the aggregate marks in these three science subjects taken together andnot less than 50% marks in English and 50% marks in each of the science subjects. They must havealso passed an examination in Mathematics of the tenth standard. ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATIONS FORADMISSION TO MBBS COURSE -2020(f)Any other examination which in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to theHigher Secondary Science/Pre-Professional/Pre-medical Examination of Indian University/Board with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology including practical test in each of theseScience subjects.(g)B.Sc. Examination of a recognized Indian University provided that he/she has passedthe B.Sc. Examination in not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoologyand further that he/she has passed the qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biologyand English.Note: The criteria for marks in Qualifying Examination (i.e. 10 2 or equivalent exam) will remain thesame for the B.Sc. candidates also.(h)Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing in qualifying examination may alsoapply. Admission, if selected, however, will be subject to passing and meeting the eligibilitycriteria as per Para 6 and 7 above.(j) Regarding the requirement of Mathematics, any candidate who has passed HigherSecondary, Senior Cambridge or Indian School Certificate Examination and had not offeredMathematics in the final year will be deemed eligible if he / she had studied Mathematics up tothe pre-final year stage (X Class) and had passed an examination in the subject provided it wasat least of Tenth standard. Sc. / B.Sc. examination isalso eligible.8.The following categories of candidates are not eligible to apply: (a)Candidates who have passed in Domestic Science, Domestic Arithmetic, and LowerMath separately or in combination with other subjects like General Science / Social studies inHigh School / Higher Secondary (Multipurpose) or equivalent examination.(b)Candidates who have passed only Pre-University / Pre-Degree (one-year course) orPre-Professional in Agriculture / Veterinary / Dental Examination.(c)Candidates who have passed the Pre-professional or equivalent qualifying examinationas a Private candidate or from Open schools.(d)Candidates who have secured the requisite percentage but in subsequent attempts orcompartment examination.NOTE: IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CANDIDATES TO ASCERTAIN WHETHER THEYPOSSESS THE REQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADMISSION. METHOD OF SELECTIONNumber of Seats9.A total of 145 medical cadets (115 boys & 30 girls) will be admitted for the year 2020. Inaddition to the above 145 seats, Govt of India at its discretion through Ministry of External Affairs &Ministry of Defence may sponsor and select five (05) NEET(UG) qualified foreign students fromfriendly foreign countries for MBBS training in AFMC, under their aid / collaboration programmes.Reservation10.Ten seats out of 145 are reserved for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) subject to the provisions stated in Paragraph 21 below.Examination11. Candidates seeking admission for MBBS course at AFMC Pune will have to mandatorily qualifythe NEET UG 2020 Examination conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA).12.Eligible candidates who are interested to join AFMC Pune, to pursue the MBBS course willhave to mandatorily register and apply for AFMC, Pune on DGHS website: www.mcc.nic.in during theregistration window provided by the DGHS. Candidates are advised to visit the above website fordetails.13.After the last date of registration, list of candidates who have applied for AFMC, Pune will beprovided by DGHS. The NEET Roll No. of the candidates who are shortlisted for the screening atAFMC, Pune based on merit will be displayed on the website. Approximately 1600 candidates(1150 boys and 450 girls) will be called for the screening. The exact schedule of the screening atAFMC, Pune along with the details of the shortlisted candidates will be available on the website:www.afmcdg1d.gov.in /www.mcc.nic.in. Request for change of date of interview will NOT beentertained except under extreme circumstances.14.(a)The shortlisted candidates will be called for Test of English Language, Comprehension,Logic and Reasoning (ToELR), Psychological Assessment Test (PAT), Interview and MedicalExamination at AFMC, Pune.(b)Test of English Language Comprehension, Logic and Reasoning (ToELR) will be in theform of Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of 40 MCQs of 2.0 marks each amounting to amaximum of 80 marks and will be held at AFMC, Pune. There will be negative marks of 0.5 forevery incorrect answer. These 40 questions will be required to be answered in 30 minutes. Themarks obtained in ToELR will be added to NEET UG -2020 score (max of 720) to get a scoreout of 800. This will be divided by 4 to get the written examination score out of 200. Theinterview will consist of 50 marks. The final merit will be based on the final score thus obtained(Written examination score Interview marks). PAT is a qualifying examination and PAT scoreswill not be considered for preparing final merit list.

METHOD OF SELECTION(c)The final result of the selected Merit List and Wait-listed candidates would beavailable on the MCC portal (www.mcc.nic.in), as well as on the websites(www.afmc.nic.in)& (www.afmcdg1d.gov.in).15.The candidates will be required to produce originals of all certificates/mark-sheets, NEET UG 2020 admit card (hall ticket), NEET UG score card and original certificate of NCC, Sports certificate atschool, District, State & National /International level, if any, at the time of the screening at AFMC Pune.All candidates will produce result or proof of having appeared in the qualifying examination, at the timeof screening (if the result of such examination has not been declared). Original mark sheet & passcertificate of qualifying examination, however will have to be produced prior to admission.16.On the basis of the NEET UG – 2020 score and screening at AFMC, two merit lists, one forboys and one for girls, will be drawn up and admissions will be offered only to these shortlistedcandidates in accordance with their final merit position. The remaining candidates will be on thewaiting list. The result will be displayed on the websites stated above and at the O/o DGAFMS andAdmission Cell, AFMC Pune.17.Candidates admitted to AFMC for MBBS course have a compulsory liability to serve asCommissioned Officers in the Armed Forces Medical Services. The offer of the type of commission willdepend upon the vacancies available and shall be determined on merit-cum-option at the final MBBSexamination. The liability of the SSC officers passing out of AFMC to serve in the Armed ForcesMedical Services would be 7 (seven) years. The Permanent Commission (PC) Officers will have toserve in AFMS till date of superannuation. Complete details of Service Liability & Bond Agreement willbe given to the candidates shortlisted for the screening.18.At the time of admission parents/guardians of the candidates are required to sign a bondagreement for Rs 30,00,000/- (Rupees Thirty Lakhs only). Any candidate withdrawing from the collegeafter 7 days of admission [after 1600hrs (4PM)] will have to pay Bond Money as per existing rules.Removal from Service Liability19.Medical cadets may be removed from service liability at any time during the training period onaccount of becoming medically unfit for grant of commission or on poor academic record/disciplinarygrounds. They may, however, be permitted, at the sole discretion of the DGAFMS on a case to casebasis, to complete MBBS Course on payment of Bond money & cost of training and given NOC afterclearing all dues to undergo internship training in civil hospitals recognized by the Medical Council ofIndia.20.In case of medical cadets removed / opted out from service liability after passing final MBBSexamination, the NOC for joining internship training in civil hospital will only be issued after the BondMoney is paid in full. Such candidates will not be permitted to undergo internship training in serviceinstitutions under any circumstances.

RESERVATIONSC/ST Candidates21.Reservation is only for SC/ST category candidates. Ten seats out of 145 are reserved forSC/ST candidates subject to fulfilling the following criteria:(a)The SC/ST candidates must have applied for AFMC, Pune and also qualified in theNEET UG – 2020 written examination.(b)If shortlisted and called for screening at AFMC, they must come within the first 500 in thefinal combined merit list of boys and girls.(c)They must fulfil all other conditions/standards, as applicable to non-SC / ST candidates,like age eligibility, academic qualifications, medical fitness, etc.(d)These reserved seats will be in addition to any vacancies secured by SC / STcandidates on the basis of their position in the merit lists.(e)In case of any SC / ST girl / boy, admitted against reserved vacancies the number ofgirls / boys to be admitted against the general seats will be reduced correspondingly.(f)All such candidates will have to sign a surety bond on the same lines and on the sameconditions as Non-SC / ST candidates.Fly Past by Army Aviation Helicopters during Commissioning Ceremony Mar 2020

ADMISSION PROCESS22.Document Scrutiny: The candidates called for admission will have to produce theoriginal Admit card for NEET UG – 2020 containing the NEET Roll number, original mark sheetsof their qualifying examination and other documents, details of which will be given in thejoining instructions. If their results and mark sheets are not received by the date of reportingfor admission to AFMC, their candidature will be cancelled and no representation in thisrespect will be entertained. No candidate will be admitted provisionally awaiting result of thequalifying examination. If at any point of time in the process of interview, admission, or MBBScourse the documents of the candidate are found to be false/not authentic or any otherdiscrepancy is observed, the candidature / selection / admission of the candidate will becancelled forthwith.23.List of waiting list candidates will be released along with the merit list only. The waitlistedcandidates will be called in blocks and will be offered seats in order of merit. Candidates reporting inexcess to the number of available vacancies, on the date of reporting, will be advised to report everyday, thereafter, at 0900hr for any vacancy arising till the completion of admission process. Anyvacancy arising, till the closure of admission process, will be filled up the subsequent day. Hence,candidates are advised to stay at Pune till all the vacancies are filled up (115 boys and 30 girls). Thosein the waiting list should keep certificates and fees ready and be ready to move at short notice onreceipt of intimation by telephone, Letter or e-mail.24.No intimation about non-selection or correspondence in this regard will be entertained.No seats will be kept vacant for candidates higher in merit in waiting list if they fail to report onthe date and time on which they have been called for reporting.25.Candidates MUST preserve the NEET UG–2020 admit card till the admission to AFMC is over.Admit card along with NEET UG–2020 Roll number, will be required during the interview and finaladmission to college.26.Medical Examination: All candidates will be subjected to medical examination as per therequirement of the Armed Forces and as per the laid down standards. The details of the same aregiven at Paragraphs 45 to 48. The candidates who have been declared medically unfit by the MedicalBoard of AFMC will not figure in the final merit list for admission.27.Legal Jurisdiction: All disputes pertaining to the application process and admission to thecollege shall fall within the jurisdiction of Pune / Maharashtra only.28.Hostel Facility: The College is fully residential and stay in the hostel is compulsory for allmedical cadets once they join/take admission in the college. Separate hostels for boys and girls arelocated in the college campus.

FACILITIES PROVIDED TOMEDICAL CADETS29.If a medical cadet is removed from service liability on account of being found medically unfit forcommission or on disciplinary/academic grounds, he / she will have to make his / her ownarrangements for stay.30.Messing Facility: All medical cadets residing in the hostel are required to be members of theMess attached to the hostel. SPECIAL CONCESSIONS31.The government provides the following concessions to service liability candidate (male andfemale):(a)Entitled rations as authorized and subsidized messing arrangements.(b)Hostel accommodation and allied services.(c)AC-3 Tier railway warrant for journey during term vacation from college to home andback.(d)AC-2 Tier rail journey on railway warrant after being commissioned.(e)Book & Equipment Allowance of Rs 4,000/- per medical cadet per year for purchase ofbooks and equipment during the entire training period.(f)Stationery Allowance of Rs 1120/- per year & Rs 140/- per month.(g)Uniform allowance – Rs 6000/- per medical cadet during first year, and Rs 1250/- peryear as maintenance allowance in subsequent years.(h)Hair Cutting Allowance of Rs 140/- per month per medical cadet.(j)Washing allowance – Rs 560/- per month & Rs 210/- during break(k)All AFMC cadets are provided Insurance / Disability benefits by Army Group Insurancefund on payment of Rs 7,200/- as a one-time non-refundable premium. Additional premium forevery relegated term of six months is Rs 1355/-. Insurance cover is Rs 15,00,000/- for deathand Rs 7,50,000/- for 100% disability proportionately reduced to Rs 1,50,000/- for 20%disability. Further details regarding terms and conditions are available with the Admission Cell,AFMC. DISCIPLINE32.The Armed Forces Medical College is a Defence Services institution. Every medical cadetis, therefore, required to conduct himself / herself in a disciplined and befitting manner. Medicalcadets are required to be properly dressed at all times and be punctilious in paying complimentsto the members of the staff.33.The conduct of the medical cadets during the period of stay in the college will begoverned by the Code of Conduct prescribed, a copy of which will be made available to allmedical cadets on admission to the college.34.Breach of discipline and failure to abide with the rules and regulations of the college,hostel, or mess will render a medical cadet to disciplinary action including being struck off thecollege rolls/expulsion from the college / declared as Non-Service Liability (NSL) withconsequent financial implications.35.Medical cadets are required to be punctual and regular in attending classes and shallappear at all tests and examinations. If medical cadet’s attendance or academic performance isnot up to the required standard, he / she may be detained for the term. RAGGING36.(a) The Armed Forces Medical College recommends the promotion of a sense ofconfidence amongst every student entering the portals of this medical institution. It istherefore imperative that the natural scope of training at this institution should include highstandards of professional knowledge, development of character and leadership qualitiesto instil a high sense of duty, discipline, integrity, loyalty and honour. It is here that thecadets foster the camaraderie and ‘Esprit de Corps’ for subsequent relationship with eachother as officers during their service. Therefore, there is no place for ragging in any form.Any form of ragging is strictly prohibited in this institution, which includes abusing,harassing, ill-treating, manhandling, bullying or awarding undignified or unauthorizedpunishment to a cadet by any other cadet. Strict disciplinary action will be taken againstany cadet indulging in ragging and he/she will be liable for expulsion from the college inaccordance with Supreme Court & MUHS ruling on the subject.(b) It is reiterated that ragging is a cognizable offence and will invite policeproceedings in consonance with judgment of the Supreme Court of India in CivilAppeal No.887 of 2009 dated 08 May 2009. It is mandatory for students and his /herparents to submit an anti-ragging affidavit initially at the time of admission to MBBScourse and thereafter on commencement of each term. The affidavit initially at the time ofadmission to MBBS course and thereafter on commencement of each term. The affidavitis to be filled online by logging on to http://antiragging.in. A printout of the E-mailreceived by the cadet and parents as acknowledgement is to be submitted to BrigadierAdministration (UG) at the beginning of each term with signature of the cadet and parentsduly affixed thereon.

HEALTH AND RECREATIONALFACILITIES37.Medical cadets are required to participate in co-curricular & extra-curricular activities likegames, sports, gymnastics etc. Facilities for sports such as cricket, tennis, squash, hockey,football, volleyball, basketball, handball, table tennis, aquatics and gymnastics are available.Ample facilities exist for pursuing & nurturing various hobbies, music, dance & drama, Debate &Quizzing etc.(a)There is an auditorium for screening of movies, membership for which iscompulsory.(b)Medical cadets with service liability are entitled to free outpatient/ inpatient/ dentaltreatment at all times in any service hospital / dental centre to the extent of medicalfacilities available locally. Periodic Medical Examination / Medical Board as considerednecessary would also be carried out.(c)All medical cadets are required to undergo an Annual Medical Examination.38.Vacations: Medical cadets will be given vacations as per university curriculum, generally asunder: (a)Summer: 2-3 weeks (approximately) in May / Jun(b)Winter: 2-3 weeks (approximately) in Dec / Jan(The schedule of vacations for the year 2020-21 is subject to change due to prevailingcircumstances of COVID-19 pandemic.)39.Fees and other charges payable by medical cadets will be given in the joining instructionsthat will be provided to candidates at the time of the screening.A glimpse of SilhouettesThe Annual Sports & Cultural Festival organised by AFMC in the year 2020

CAREER PROSPECTS40.On successful completion of MBBS Course from AFMC the medical cadets join theArmed Forces Medical Services as Commissioned Officers in one of the three services, viz.Army, Navy and Air Force. On the basis of merit-cum-choice 50% of the medical cadets areoffered Permanent Commission (PC) and the rest Short Service Commission (SSC). Promotionsto next higher ranks exist in the Cadre subject to satisfactory service and fitness for the rank.
