Mental Health Services for the Underserved and UninsuredSara’s StoryIn early 2016, Sara had reached a major roadblock in herlife. While she had always been an anxious person, over thecourse of a couple months it had gotten harder and harder togo through her everyday life. Sara didn’t realize that she wasstruggling with depression. She just knew that she didn’t havethe same energy or enthusiasm for her work or home life.It was her brother who suggested that she seek professionalhelp, but Sara assumed therapy was a luxury that her budgetwould not allow. Sara felt helpless and was convinced that themalaise she was feeling would never go away. Then a friend told her about The Women’s Center. Thanks to asliding scale of rates, Sara was able to see a therapist and pay afee that fit her budget. As she met regularly with her therapist, Sara gained a better understanding of her depression and developed copingtechniques to get her back on her feet. Eight months later, Sarahas regained control of her life and, thanks to The Women’sCenter, is hopeful for her future.
