Do you know who is calling?People are not always who they say they are. Every day, someone becomesa victim of fraud following a phone call. Fraudsters call, saying they are froma legitimate organisation such as a bank, service provider, utilities company, police or charity, in an attempt to convince you to reveal financial informationor to transfer money to a third party account owned by the fraudsters. This type of fraud is called Vishing and is becoming more sophisticated andwidespread. Vishing – How it works: You get a call, claiming to be from yourbank or police for example, saying a fraudulent payment has been spotted onyour card and this needs to be resolved, or that someone has been arrestedfor using your details and card. If the caller claims to be from a serviceprovider, they may say that you are due to a rebate, or overpaid on youraccount and they would like to make you a refund. You may be asked to callback using the number on the back of your bank or store card- this furtherconvinces you that the caller is genuine. However the Fraudster keepsthe line open at their end so when you make the call you are unknowinglyconnected straight back to them. They may ask for your PIN number orsometimes ask you to key it into your phone’s handset or online bankingpasswords, they then have access to your moneyp11

Do you know who is calling?Protecting your cash Be wary of all unsolicited calls and emails Never reveal personal or financial information including your PIN orbankcard to anyone Do not be pressured into making financial decisions, if an investmentsounds too good to be true it probably is!!! If you or someone you know thinks they have had one of these callsget in contact with your bank or if you feel in danger dial 999 In order to clear your line from Fraudsters wait at least 5 minutesbefore making any calls or dial from another phone and number Your Bank and the Police will NEVER ask you to reveal your PIN,withdraw your cash, transfer your money to another “safe” account orpurchase high value goods.
