This CourseWill Cover:Preparing to enter the dental field :Students will be instructed on proper interviewing techniques and how to create a professional resume. Ourstudents will work in an actual dental setting. All of the instructors are Dental professionals. Teachers consist ofDentists, Dental Assistants and Dental Hyienists with years of experience in their field.Orientation to Dentistry :This unit provides students with information concerning the roles of the dental team. It allows the students tobecome familiar with the flow, maintenance and equipment found in a dental office. At home textbook readingcombined with a "laymans" explanation of the reading material in the form of a workbook is offered.Disinfection & Sterilization:This unit provides students with information and practice regaurding sterilization, disinfection, OSHAstandards.Instruments & treatment room care.Dental Anatomy:Students will learn how to identify primary and permanent teeth. They will learn to identify parts of the mouth,teeth, surfaces of the teeth and oral surroundings.Radiology:Students will be introduced to techniques of taking x-ray films and exposing them using operation safety. Studentswill practice taking x-ray films using a paralleling technique, developing, and mounting them.Instruments and Cements:Students will learn to identify major hand instruments, burs, and hand pieces. They be taught instrumentation tobasic restorative procedures. Different types of cements will be introduced for recognition & manipulation fortheir applications.Introduction to Four Handed Dentistry :Students will learn instrument passing and suctioning techniques, verbal skills, patient care instruction. They willbe introduced to a variety of methods of anesthesia used in the dental office. Patient care and administrationusing HIPPA requirements are covered. Students will learn how to assemble a syringe,, patient education, postoperative patient instruction, and patient hand off procedures to help create the ability to achieve a future patientto have a smooth dental experience.Introduction to Specialties Fields:Students will be familiarized with Oral surgery, Endodontics, Periodontics, Pedodontics, and Orthodontics andsome of the instruments common to the specialty fields.Diagnostics:Students will be taught to give brushing & flossing instruction. Taught to take impressions, pour and trim modelsand make bleach trays.Front Desk:.Telephone and appointment book scheduling using a paper schedule and computer dental software . Addressingpatients using verbal skills to collect payment, creating appointments and understanding a recall system arecovered in this module. Verbal skills are discussed. We cover creating and managing patient records and files inaccordance with the Government Privacy Policy Act and state law. Dentrix Dental Software and laptop computersare used to perfect charting and coding technique.3

The grading scale is based on a 1000 point cumulative system . Denta l AssistingTechnologies uses an accumulated grading scale. Each student begins the session with 0 points & hasthe ability to add points to their score thru attendance , participation , completion of tasks, quizzes andexams . The tasks, quizzes & exams have different point values. Each student has the ability to earnup to 1000 points by the completionof the program. Students that fail the exam twice will be given one opportunity to retake Instruction forthe failed component of Final Ha nds on Testing. Exam with an instructor in a one on one forma t beforebeing given the opportunity of retaking the Final Hands on Testing Exam a second t ime .Veteran's Satisfactory Academic Progress PolicyVeterans must demonstrate satisfactory academic progress in orde r to continue train ing at the school.To maintain satisfactory academic progress, veterans must complete the module with at least 70%grade {700 points) , complete the module with in the specified time period for the program , andma intain at least an 80% attendance rate for the module. Failure to achieve these requirements inthe module will result in a veteran failing the module and being placed on probation .Veterans on probation wilt be required to retake the module that they have failed. Veterans onprobation can receive federal veterans educational benefits for this module that they are required toretake. Veterans that fail to successfully complete the module for which they are required to takewhile on probation will be dismissed from Denta l Assisting Technolog ies.ReinstatementStudents dismissed for falling to meet satisfactory academic progress policy can petition the school forreinstatement one year after being dismissed. Reinstatement decisions will be made on an indiv idua lbasis by a Dental Assisting Technologies advisorand will take into consideration whether the stude nthas the desire and capability to successfully complete the program . Veterans dismissed for cond uctwill not be tons idered for reinstatement.17
