Welcome to the Community Learning Centers of the Wood County Educational ServiceCenter. The CLC was established in 2001 to provide children safe and fun before and afterschool extended learning programming. Since then, through the support of the WCESC,ODE 21st CCLC, and the United Way, this amazing program has expanded to servethousands of kids a year, at 8 districts, and 10 sites, year-round, throughout Wood andLucas Counties. The CLCs have now grown to provide quality enrichment and extendedlearning activities for elementary children - grades K-6.We now have a number of programming options that go beyond our before/after schoolprogram; we offer both virtual and in-person intervention programs, virtual and in-personsummer school, summer camp, digital tutoring, SEL curriculum, and more, all adjustableto your organizational needs. Various cost structures, sliding-fee scales, and billingformats available. We understand that this is an unprecedented school year for yourstudents and staff members. STARS is a before and after-schoolprogram that provides qualityenrichment and extended learningactivities to elementary students.Students receive assistance to promotehomework completion, participate inenrichment curriculum called DiscoveryZones, and practice their reading andmath skills with an online programcalled SuccessMaker. Students are alsoprovided a healthy breakfast, snack,and/or dinner, plus time physicalactivity time.

Community Learning Center SummerCamp provides learning, authenticengagement, and all out fun 11.5 hoursper day Monday to Friday all summerbreak. Our campers benefit from readingand math skills enrichment, SELcurriculum, daily physical activity,outdoor fun, nutritious snacks and/ormeals. To top it all off, CLC campers areexposed to unique experiences throughfield-trip Tuesdays, swimming Fridays,special guest visitors, and communityservice learning projects.

This innovative summer interventionprogram is offered to nominated K-5students 3 days per week over 5 weeks ofsummer break. It focuses on lessening thesummer learning gap as well as prepares 2ndgraders for their all-important final attempt atmeeting the Third Grade Guaranteerequirements. CLC manages all programdetails, giving certified Rossford teachers theopportunity to focus on individualizedreading and math skills intervention. Inaddition to targeted skills practice, SummerAcademy participants receive a daily snackand outdoor activity session. This programhas been running for over 10 years and is astaple of the Rossford school system.

Our groundbreaking virtual adaptation oftraditional in-person summer school. Gradelevel small group sessions are conductedutilizing district teachers. CLC sets up thestructure- teacher expectations, student andparent expectations- as well as handlesmarketing, registration, supply ordering anddistribution, training, human resources, payroll,and data collection. Students receive small groupreading and math instruction with certifiedteachers, as well as assignments and feedbackthrough Google Classroom. Virtual SummerAcademy was piloted last summer with RossfordExempted Village Schools, entitled RossfordVirtual Summer Academy. The response wasoverwhelmingly positive and exceeded thedistrict’s expectations.

CLC’s unique spin on afterschooltargeted intervention. This gradelevel program was conductedafterschool at Rossford Elementaryfor nominated K-5 students in needof extra reading and mathassistance. It boasts not only anacademic hour featuring homeworkassistance, individualized readingand math skills activities, but also agross motor period and daily snack.

A CLC-designed fully virtual afterschoolintervention package, specificallyengineered to maximize learning during ahybrid or remote schedule. Grade levelsmall group Zoom or Google Meetsessions are conducted with our trainedtutors, in order to strengthen reading andmath skills. Along with reading and mathskills intervention, we have incorporateda homework help and SEL check-incomponent. We have piloted thisprogram with Rossford Exempted VillageSchools this year, beginning our 2nd thisweek. The program, entitled VirtualCanine Crew, is exceeding allexpectations.

A simplified extended day enrichment program designed to meet the core needsfor any individual district’s population. Homework Club features key elementsof successful extended school day, such as homework assistance, gross motoractivity, and daily snack.

Over several years CLC has cultivated an amazing partnership withBowling Green State University’s America Reads program. Recently thispartnership has gone fully virtual. BGSU Education majors conducttutoring session with selected STARS students during afterschool hours,via Zoom or Google Meet. These future educators provide small groupinteraction during the hours that students are with us, focusing onanything from homework help to simply reading together.

A CLC-designed fully virtualcurriculum focusing on bolsteringSocial-Emotional Learning, while alsofeaturing reading skills practice, mathskills practice, physical activity,creativity, and fun virtual field trips.Foundations was piloted acrossmultiple districts this past summer, aswe at CLC have found SEL andengaged interaction to be more vitallyneeded than ever.
