PRESENTERSAnn A. Abbott recently retired from her position as Professor and MSW ProgramDirector, West Chester University, West Chester, PA. Prior to that position, Annserved as Associate Dean of the School of Social Work, Rutgers University, CamdenCampus, and Director—BASW Programs in Camden and New Brunswick. Ann haspublished extensively in the areas of substance abuse issues, social work values,risk management, and professional socialization; she taught in the areas of humanbehavior, direct practice and mental health. Currently Dr. Abbott is serving asadvisor to a number of doctoral students.Ann A. Gary Bailey, LHD(h.c.), MSW, ACSWFormer Trustee,NASW Insurance TrustGary Bailey LHD (h.c), MSW, ACSW is a Professor of Practice at the SimmonsCollege School of Social Work and School of Nursing and Health Studies. At theSchool of Social Work he chairs Awards Committee; is Chair of the Simmons CollegeBlack Administrators, Faculty and Staff Council (BAFAS); is a member of the SimmonsFaculty Senate where he chaired the Senates subcommittee on faculty engagement;is a member of the Presidents Council; is vice chair of the Simmons President’sDiversity and Inclusion Advisory Council (PDIAC) and is a member of the PDIAC GrantsCommittee; at the School of Nursing and Health Studies he is a member of theDotson Scholars Advisory Board; he also co-Chaired the Simmons College Initiative onHuman Rights and Social Justice. He was appointed by Massachusetts Governor DeValPatrick to a second term to the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts EducationFinance Authority (MEFA). Betsy) is Head of the Department and Associate Professor ofSocial Work at Kansas State University. She has taught in the social work programat KSU since 1993. Betsy received both her MSW and PhD at the University ofMinnesota. Prior to KSU, she was a child welfare administrator at Franklin CountyChildren Services in Columbus, Ohio. Betsy also has been director of a hospitalsocial work department, a family therapist, and director of a custody mediationresearch project. Her primary area of teaching is social work practice and publicpolicy. Betsy’s research interests involve child welfare system and how violenceagainst children constitutes a community health risk and behavioral healthpreparedness response, and recoveryNASW Involvement:Past President and Chair of NASW Assurance Services, Inc. PRESENTERSYvonne M. Chase,PhD, LCSW, ACSWBoard of Directors,NASW Assurance ServicesYvonne M. Chase is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Servicesat the University of Alaska/Anchorage. Dr. Chase’s prior experience includes servingas deputy commissioner for two state departments in Alaska and one in WashingtonState. She also has significant experience in the non-profit sector. Dr. Chase holds abachelor’s degree in sociology from Loyola University in Chicago, a master’s in socialwork from Howard University in Washington, DC, and a doctorate in social workfrom Norfolk State University. Her areas of interest include social work ethics, childwelfare, serving diverse client populations and the global social work community.She is currently co-principal investigator of a US Department of Agriculture fundedresearch project. Becky was born and raised in New Orleans and received herMSW degree with a concentration in planning and management and a BS degree inhuman development and family studies from The University of Alabama (UA). Terrie Fritz, MSW, LCSWFormer Trustee,NASW Insurance TrustTerrie Fritz is the Director of The Center for Social Work in Healthcare at the Anne andHenry Zarrow School of Social Work, University of Oklahoma. The work of the Center isto better prepare students to practice in the healthcare arena and support best use ofsocial work in primary care and medial homes. Terrie has practiced social work sincegraduating with her MSW in 1978 and has worked in the fields of Child Welfare, MentalHealth and Maternal and Child Health in both direct and program/policy developmentpositions. From 1995 to 2011, she was Director of Child Health and the Director ofBehavioral Health at the Oklahoma Health Care Authority, the state agency responsiblefor administering the Medicaid program. Prior to that Terrie was the Director of SocialWork for the Oklahoma State Department of Health.NASW Involvement:National Board Member (2005–2008); former Trustee of the NASW Insurance Trust (2001–2004); Chair of the National Committee on Inquiry (1999–2001); President of OklahomaChapter (1995–1996); and Chair of Delegate Assembly Planning Committee (2007–2008).She is currently a presenter for the NASW Assurance Services Risk Management Program.Paul D’Agostino, LCSWACSW, Board of Directors,NASW Assurance ServicesPaul D’Agostino retired from his position as Executive Director of the ChampionsFor Children, where he was responsible for the administration, fiscal managementand development, with emphasis on program planning and supervision. He is therespected leader for more than 146 staff members and 600 volunteers. Paul hasextensive background in clinical social work, as both caseworker and administrator inagencies specializing in children and families. He was in private practice in child andfamily evaluation and treatment and also served as Unit Director for the Children’sProject and Associate Director for the Children’s Residential Project at the FloridaMental Health Institute. Paul was founder and president of Children’s Advocates, Inc.,a Boston, MA, interagency foundation for the protection of children and served as aChild Abuse Consultant to the Spanish Government in Spain.NASW Involvement:Presently serving as president on the Board of NASW Assurance Services, Inc.; Trusteeof the NASW Insurance Trust (2006–2007); National Treasurer (2003–2006); President,NASW Florida Chapter (1994–1996). Jones, PhDFormer Chair,NASW Assurance ServicesGreg Jensen is a healthcare executive with over thirty years of proven achievementsin program development, implementation, and operational oversight in an academicmedical center with over 700 beds and 200 outpatient clinics and more recently in afederally qualified health center (FQHC). He is recognized nationally for professionalleadership and expertise in developing innovative models of delivering healthcare.Greg has engaged community stakeholders to develop comprehensive servicesand a continuum of care to benefit patients. Recent examples include developingschoolengaged health homes in six Central Texas school districts and developing thebest-in-class model of integrated healthcare within an FQHC providing primary care andbehavioral health care services to the community’s most vulnerable patients.NASW Involvement:Chair (2003–2005) and former Trustee (2000–2003) of the NASW Insurance Trust; NationalExecutive Committee (1999–2001); National Board (1998–2001); President, Iowa Chapter (1990–1992). In 2013, he served as the Senior Vice President ofcommunity Investment of the United Way of Metropolitan Chicago. He wasresponsible for leadership, planning and measurement, and execution of UnitedWay’s strategic investments in the areas of income, education and health. Richardalso served as the Administrator of Employment and Family Services and theCuyahoga Support Enforcement Agency for Cuyahoga County in Ohio. Prior tohis position, for 13 years, he served as President and CEO of Metropolitan FamilyServices in Chicago delivering more than 290M in programs and services to morethan 600,000 people during his tenure.NASW Involvement:Board Member of the NASW Assurance Services (ASI) Board of Directors (2007–2008);Elected President of ASI (2008–2011) for two terms. He is currently a presenter for the NASWAssurance Services Risk Management Program.Paul A. Kurzman is a Professor at the Silberman School of Social Work at HunterCollege and at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Paul servedfor 26 years on the New York State Social Work Licensing Board, and as a seniorhearing officer for professional discipline. He presently teaches practice and policyin the master’s and doctoral programs. Paul holds a BA from Princeton University,MSW from Columbia University, and a PhD from New York University. He is anauthor of nine books and of “Professional Liability and Malpractice” and “ManagingLiability and Risk in Nonprofit Settings.”Paul A. Joseph T. Monahan, JD,MSW, ACSWPresident, NASW AssuranceServices Risk RetentionGroupJoseph T. Monahan (Joe) is founder of the Chicago law firm The Monahan LawGroup, LLC. In the past twenty-nine years as a lawyer, Joe and the firm have beeninvolved in ground breaking legal issues impacting social workers and their clients.In 2011, he successfully argued a case in the Illinois Supreme Court concerningthe confidentiality of records in domestic relations proceedings. Joe was lead trialcounsel on the first same-sex adoption case in Illinois and also was the plaintiff(then later appointed co-chair of the Rule 706 expert panel) in the largest classaction law suit filed against the state’s child welfare agency (DCFS). Currently, Joeand members of the Firm represent over 70 hospitals in the Chicago metropolitanarea and provides legal representation and advocacy to numerous outpatientmental health clinics and child welfare agencies in the state. He trained as a socialworker before going to law school; received his MSW from the University of Illinoisin Champaign, and his JD from DePaul University College of Law.
