PRACTICAL NURSING EDUCATION PROGRAMSas of October 30, 2019The Board of Nursing regulates nursing education programs in Ohio that prepare students for initiallicensure as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. The Board accomplishes this regulation byassuring that new and existing programs meet and maintain the requirements set forth in Chapter4723-5 Ohio Administrative Code, as evidenced by the Board’s granting of its approval. This is a listof each nursing education program approved by the Board and its current approval status. Anexplanation of each type of Board approval is provided below.APPROVAL STATUSEXPLANATIONConditional ApprovalThe initial approval status granted to a newly established program thatmeets the requirements of Chapter 4723-5 Ohio Administrative Code.Conditional Approval authorizes implementation of the program and isrequired prior to the final acceptance of a student into the program.Full ApprovalThe approval status granted by the Board to a program that meets andcontinues to comply with the requirements of Chapter 4723-5 OhioAdministrative Code. A program with Conditional Approval mustcomplete its first class of students who entered the program immediatelyafter the Conditional Approval was granted in order for that program to beeligible for Full Approval status. A program with existing Full Approvalthat has continued to meet and comply with the requirements of Chapter4723-5 Ohio Administrative Code or a program that was previouslygranted Provisional Approval is granted Full Approval if it has beendetermined by the Board to meet and maintain the requirements ofChapter 4723-5 Ohio Administrative Code.Provisional ApprovalThe approval status granted by the Board to a program that waspreviously granted Full Approval and that either failed to meet andmaintain the requirements of Chapter 4723-5 Ohio Administrative Code,or did not meet the NCLEX pass rate benchmark required by Rule 47235-23, OAC. Provisional Approval is for a specified period of time if itresults from a requirement(s) that was not met or maintained. A Programwith Provisional Approval for Low NCLEX pass rates must meet theNCLEX pass rate benchmark for two consecutive years to be restored toFull Approval.10/20191
