Student ServicesOpen Door PolicyAdmission to Kishwaukee College is open to all in-districtresidents of Community College District 523 who are highschool graduates or have the equivalent High SchoolEquivalency (HSE) Certificate or non-graduates who willbe 18 years of age or older during their first semester ofenrollment. For age requirements to enroll in High SchoolEquivalency (HSE) Certificate preparation courses and testing,contact the Adult Education office.Admission is also open to out-of-district, out-of-state, andresidents of foreign countries. However, there may be someprogram restrictions, differential tuition charges, and/orspecial admission requirements.Kishwaukee College reserves the right to restrict students’admission to those courses in which their success seemsmost probable as indicated by their high school record,transcripts from other educational institutions attended, testresults, work experiences, and college counseling interviews.Those students who do not have an adequate backgroundto take the courses of their choice may have the opportunityto take special courses to prepare them for more advancedcourse work.Admission to Kishwaukee College does not guaranteeenrollment in any specific program of instruction.Admission RequirementsKishwaukee College has an “open door” admission policy andadmission is open to all in district residents of the CommunityCollege District 523 who meet the following criteria.1. High school graduates or the equivalent High SchoolEquivalency (HSE) Certificate or non-graduates whowill be 18 years of age or older during the first semesterof enrollment.2. High School students under 16 may be considered forenrollment in credit classes with joint approval of the HighSchool principal and the Registrar.3. Transfer students from other colleges. Only credits earnedfrom regionally accredited institutions will be accepted.No grade point average will be calculated on those credits.Out-of-District ResidentsAdmission is also open to out-of-district, out-of-state, andresidents of foreign countries; however, there may besome program restrictions, differential tuition charges,and/or special admission requirements.Kishwaukee College reserves the right to restrict students’admission to those courses in which their success seemsmost probable as indicated by their high school record,transcripts from other educational institutions attended, testresults, work experiences, and college counseling interviews.ReadmissionAll students who intend to reenter after a two-year absencemust complete a new Student Information Form prior toadvisement and registration. Degree or certificate seekingstudents must provide official transcripts from all collegesor universities attended since their last enrollment atKishwaukee College prior to advisement and registration.Admission to Health Technology ProgramsStudents interested in admission to Kishwaukee College’shealth technology programs must meet other admissionsrequirements in addition to those identified above.These programs are the EMS degree (A.A.S.), the Nursingdegree (A.A.S.), the Radiologic Technology degree (A.A.S.),Medical Assistant certificate, Therapeutic Massage certificate,and Esthetics certificate. Interested students should contactthe relevant health program department.Admission for High School Students andStudents 16 Years of Age or YoungerStudents under 18 must submit written approval from thehigh school principal or counselor at the school wherethey have legal residence and from the student’s parent orlegal guardian. High school students under age 16 may beconsidered for enrollment in credit classes with the jointapproval of the high school principal and the Registrar atKishwaukee College. Those students currently attendinghigh school who wish to enroll at Kishwaukee Collegesimultaneously in 100- or 200- level college courses will earncredit toward Kishwaukee College degree requirements.Students enrolled in high school are not eligible for federaland/or state financial aid.Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit opportunities are availablethrough selected high schools. Dual Enrollment courses canbe taken during or after the high school day for college creditonly. Citizens of Foreign CountriesKishwaukee College is authorized under federal law toenroll non-immigrant alien students. All applicants who arecitizens of non-English speaking countries will be eligible foradmission to Kishwaukee College when they complete thefollowing requirements:1. Complete and submit an online Student InformationForm for admission to Kishwaukee College atwww.kish.edu/apply. A non-refundable 15processing fee will be collected at registration.2. Make arrangements to send or request official copies ofyour academic records, both high school and college.Evaluations can be performed by one of the followingaccredited organizations: ECE (www.ece.org),ACEI (www.acei-global.org) or WES (www.wes.org).3. Applicants must provide proof of written and oralEnglish competency by submitting official copies ofscores from the TOEFL (Test of English as a ForeignLanguage). Kishwaukee College requires a score of 500on the paper version of the TOEFL (computer-based 173; internet-based 61). Alternative options for non-English applicants for admissions would be the successfulcompletion of an intensive English training program atany of the following locations: Northern Illinois University,ESL Center, phone: 815-753-4600, Internexus EnglishLanguage Center, phone: 815-226-4114, ELS LanguageCenter, phone: 708-488-5010. Applicants who attendone of these centers to gain English proficiency, uponcompletion, must provide evidence of completion ofLevel 109 or above to be considered for admission toKishwaukee College.4. In addition with the other required documents, allapplicants must submit an International StudentStatement of Finances to demonstrate that they haveadequate financial resources to meet their educationalexpenses. Kishwaukee College requires that all F-1 visastatus applicants submit evidence of adequate financialsupport to cover costs of attendance for at least one fullyear of studies. This support may be provided throughany combination of personal or sponsored funds.If supported by personal and/or family funds, submitsigned International Student Statement of Finances andoriginal bank statement reflecting an available bankbalance. Personal bank and sponsor letters should besigned or stamped by the sponsor/bank official and canbe sent by mail, fax, or email. These documents cannot beolder than ninety (90) days from the initial term start date.Financial materials sent to Kishwaukee College will notbe returned. Students should not expect to be ableto find a job off campus and are not eligible for grantsor scholarships. Please visit www.kish.edu/internationalfor specific requirements.25. All international students who are transferring from aCollege or University, within the United States, musthave the International Transfer to Kishwaukee Collegeform completed by the institution last attended.This form is required to be completed as a part of theenrollment procedure. You can mail a completed application, officialtranscripts, language test scores, bank statementand proof of support to:Kishwaukee CollegeStudent Services21193 Malta Rd.Malta, IL 601506. Once students receive their I-20 from Kishwaukee College,they must pay the I-901 SEVIS fee at www.fmjfee.comprior to embassy appointment to obtain a student visa. To enter the country they must have a valid passportand current I-20.7. The Student Information Form and all requiredmaterials must be completed and received in theStudent Services office by the following deadlines: Fall Semester (beginning in August) – June 15th Spring Semester (beginning in January) –November 15th Transfer students or F-1 Students already in theUnited States have until July 1st or December 1st.Please allow 2-3 days for the Student Information Form tobe evaluated. Applicants will be contacted after the StudentInformation Form has been evaluated. All documentssubmitted to Kishwaukee College become property of thecollege and will not be returned to the student.Transferring to Kishwaukee Collegefrom Another SchoolAcceptance of Transfer CreditStudents at Kish who have transfer credits from anotherinstitution and plan to enroll in a degree/certificate programshould submit an official transcript. The official transcriptscan be sent electronically or submitted in a sealed envelopefrom the transfer institution to the Student Services Office.Official transcripts cannot be faxed or scanned.Evaluations may take up to 1 week after submission of officialtranscripts. An email will be sent to the Kish Student emailaccount after your evaluation has been completed.Criteria for evaluation of transferable credits: Transfer credit must be earned at a regionallyaccredited institution.Kishwaukee College 2020-21 Academic Catalog

Transfer credits may be awarded for 100/200/300level courses. A maximum of 49 credits including amaximum of 27 open elective credits will be appliedtoward a transfer degree. Students are required tocomplete at least 15 residency hours dependingon the total of transfer credits applied.Any elective credit(s) shown as a 1XX, 2XX or 3XX onthe Kish evaluation may be re-evaluated bysubmitting a syllabus to the Student Services Office.Kish accepts passing grades of “D” for transfer credit;however the course may need to be repeated forspecific course prerequisites and program criteria.Please refer to the college catalog for requirements.Students who transfer 30 or more credits will not berequired to complete the Student Success portion ofthe degree requirement and will receive a waiver.However, a student may choose to enroll in any of theStudent Success courses to earn more credits in theopen elective area.Transfer credit does not affect cumulative GPA.Any CLEP or AP credits earned must have official testscores submitted.Foreign transfer credits must be translated andevaluated by ECE (www.ece.org), WES(www.wes.org), or ACEI (www.acei-global.org).Please contact the Registrar in the Student ServicesOffice with questions concerning foreign transcripts.Military transfer credits will be evaluated by submittingthe official Joint Services Transcript (JST).Order online cost-free at https://jst.doded.mil.Reverse TransferReverse Transfer is a program designed for students whoattended Kishwaukee College and then transferred to aUniversity without earning their associate’s degree. Creditssuccessfully completed at another university may betransferable back to Kishwaukee College. Kishwaukee Collegewill evaluate credits taken at the university to see if they willfulfill any and all remaining requirements for your associate’sdegree. If all requirements are met, an associate’s degree willbe automatically awarded. Student will be notified within 30days regarding results of transcript evaluation.If a student fails a course at Kishwaukee College in whichtransfer credit has been earned, the Kishwaukee Collegegrade will remain on the student’s transcript and thestudent will be given credit for the course in transfer.Placement Testing for Students Transferringto Kishwaukee CollegeTransfer students may be required to take placement testsbefore course enrollment. During advising, students will beinformed of any placement tests they will be required to take.Students who do not comply with the placement testingpolicy will be administratively dropped from their courseenrollment(s) until testing has been completed andappropriate course placement indicated.Transfer Physical Education ActivityTransfer credit is awarded for a maximum of four credithours in physical education activity courses, based on thechronological order in which they were completed.Students receiving transfer credit in activity courses willlater forfeit the corresponding transfer credit in excess ofthe four credit hours for credits earned in activity courses atKishwaukee College.Pass/Fail Transfer CreditTransfer credit for courses graded under a pass/fail option willnormally be awarded open elective credit toward A.A. or A.S.degree requirements. Pass courses do not carry transfer creditfor required courses in certificate of completion, A.A.S., orother degree programs.Please Note: All documents submitted toKishwaukee College for admission or transfer evaluationpurposes become the property of the College.These documents, or copies of the documents, will notbe released to students, nor will they be forwarded toother educational institutions or agencies. Studentsneeding copies of transcripts from other institutionsshould contact those institutions directly.Forfeiture of Transfer CreditA student may repeat at Kishwaukee College a coursefor which credit was earned at another post-secondaryinstitution. Doing so causes the student to forfeit any creditawarded in transfer, unless the Kishwaukee College coursewas not completed. If the student’s record indicates the samecourse had been successfully completed at both KishwaukeeCollege and another institution, regardless of the order inwhich they were taken, the Kishwaukee course shall be theone used in the overall grade point average.Kishwaukee College 2020-21 Academic Catalog3

Financial AidA variety of financial aid options are available to qualifiedstudents to help meet the costs of attending KishwaukeeCollege. The Financial Aid Office is responsible foradministering and coordinating aid funds from federal,state, private, and college sources. Questions concerningfinancial assistance should be directed to this office.Types of AssistanceFinancial aid consists of the following: Scholarships:Gift assistance usually based on academic achievement,major, and/or special ability; Grants: Gift assistance usuallybased on financial need; Loans: Funds to be repaid withinterest, generally after the recipient is no longer a student;and Employment: Earnings from a part-time job on oroff campus.In 2018-2019, nearly 2,000 students received approximately 8.3 million in financial aid funds at Kishwaukee College.Application procedures for non-need programs are indicatedin the description of individual programs. Procedures forapplying for need-based programs are in the catalog sectiontitled General Application Procedures and Policies forNeed-Based Programs.In addition, the Financial Aid Office acts as a liaisonbetween the Illinois Office of Rehabilitation Services, IllinoisDepartment of Human Services, the Veterans Administrationand others, to assist students to receive educational benefitsfrom these agencies.General Application Procedures andPolicies for Need-Based ProgramsAll students must pay in full, have a payment plan in place, ora completed financial aid file to hold their classes. See page15, Payment Plan option for more information.To apply for the Pell Grant, Illinois State Monetary Award(MAP), Federal Supplemental Educational OpportunityGrant, Federal Work- Study Program, Direct Loan (bothsubsidized and unsubsidized loans), and/or Parent Loan forUndergraduate Students (PLUS), students must complete:1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) oralternative application for Illinios financial aid, if ineligibleto apply with the FAFSA.2. Additional College Financial Aid Forms based onFAFSA results.3. Kishwaukee College Academic Progress Requirements.4. Official academic transcripts from ALL post-secondaryinstitutions attended are strongly encouraged for ALLloan applicants.5. Kishwaukee College Loan/PLUS Information form forall student and parent loan applicants.All forms are available on myKC-Self Service-Financial Aidor from the college’s website www.kish.edu/admissionsfinancial-aid/. Students are encouraged to file the FAFSAon-line at www.fafsa.gov. Kishwaukee College’s federal schoolcode is 007684. To receive full consideration for all types offinancial aid, students should complete and submit the FAFSAas soon after October 1 as possible for the upcoming fallsemester. Check with the Financial Aid Office for changes forthe 2020-2021 FAFSA.The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) collectsinformation on the student’s family situation includingincome, assets, family size and number of family membersattending college. A student who meets the independentstudent definition on the FAFSA receives financial aid on thebasis of the student’s/spouse’s (when applicable) financialsituation. This data is used by the federal processor todetermine how much the student and his/her family cancontribute toward the educational costs at KishwaukeeCollege. The result of this calculation is called the ExpectedFamily Contribution (EFC). Financial need is the differencebetween the cost of attending Kishwaukee College and theamount the student and the family can contribute.The Financial Aid Office uses this information to developa financial aid package of awards for each student.Financial aid is packaged as a combination of grants,scholarships and loans.Students receiving financial aid must be enrolled in aKishwaukee College program of study that leads toa degree (A.A., A.S., A.F.A, A.E.S., A.A.S.) or certificate programof 16 hours or more. Depending on individual studenteligibility some Pell Grant and IL MAP recipients may needto be enrolled in a minimum number of credits to be eligible.Courses students are enrolled in must count towards thestudents program of study.Students receiving federal or state financial aid whodrop some or all of their classes during the refundperiod may no longer be eligible for financial aid awards.Therefore, a repayment may be required of all or a portionof the aid received for that term, including charges in thecollege bookstore.Financial aid recipients who attend Kishwaukee Collegeand withdraw from all cour
