PRELIMINARY FALL 2020 ENROLLMENTSIN ILLINOIS HIGHER EDUCATIONThis report summarizes preliminary fall-term 2020 headcount and full-time-equivalent(FTE) enrollments at colleges and universities in Illinois. It also includes enrollments in remedial/developmental education courses for Academic Year 2019-2020. Fall-term enrollments provide a“snapshot” of Illinois higher education enrollments on the 10th day, or census date, of the fallterm.Preliminary fall 2020 enrollments by sectorIncluding enrollments at out-of-state institutions authorized to operate in Illinois, fall 2020preliminary headcount enrollments at degree-granting institutions total 680,004 (see Table 4 forinstitutional level data). Fall 2020 FTE enrollments total 516,801. These differences are based only on those institutions that provided information in bothyears, so the changes reflected here are actual changes in enrollment patterns and not due to theresponse rate to the survey from one year to the next, nor do the changes reflect institutionalclosures. Undergraduate enrollment declined in all sectors except the for-profit private sector,which experienced a 2.5% year over year increase in headcount enrollment. The largest declineswere in the community college and out-of-state sectors. Graduate enrollment increased at Illinoispublic universities and at for-profit private colleges for both headcount and FTE enrollments. Theout-of-state sector experienced declines in both headcount and FTE at the graduate level.
