Also,starting September 1st 2009, all participants, youth & adult, in 4-H are toset up and register their family profiles on Connect. This will take the placeof Green/Yellow Forms. To help with this new process our office will conduct4-H Connect trainings over the next few months to prepare everyone for thechange.New 4-H Food ChallengeOn August 4th there will be a multi county 4-H Food Challenge training atthe Gregg County Extension office. This will serve as youth and adultproject leader trainings. If you are interested in attending please let AgentJoey O’Dowd know. Depending on how many 4-Hers participate; we will haveanother training/workshop on August 25th.Fashion Show WorkshopWe will be holding a Fashion Show workshop on August 11th at 4 pm in theExtension Office. For the Fashion Show workshop, we are looking for one ortwo adult volunteers to become the project leaders. Upshur County 4-H BanquetThe time is approaching for our County Banquet Awards program. It will beon August 17th, 6:30 p.m. at Upshur Rural Electric Coop. We will bediscussing and planning the banquet at the next Adult Leaders meeting inJuly.County Council & Adult LeadersTo all council delegates, officers and club managers, on July 21st, 2009 at6:00pm we will have our next County Council and Adult Leader meetings.Officers please attend—we have lots of business to attend to. Also we willbe planning the Awards Banquet that will be on Monday, August 17 at 6:30.Shooting SportsFor everyone interested, we will be having a Shooting Sports meeting on July8th at 5 pm in the Extension Office. We will discuss adult volunteertrainings and future competitions; everyone is welcome who want toparticipate.Record bookDistrict Record book judging will be on July 7th. State Record book judgingwill be on August 12th. Congratulations’ to Cody Rosenbalm, CourtneyRosenbalm and Anna Carter for doing a record book and advancingto District.Livestock News-Camps-LabsLivestock FundraiserThank you to everyone who came out to the 1st Annual BBQ Chicken Dinnerthat was held on June 13, 2009, at the Yamboree Pavilion. We had a greatturnout of 4-H families and customers. According to the total calculation ofmoney, with the expenses paid, we have earned a ruff amount of 1,305.00.That is great for a first-time fundraiser. Once again, I am so proud of allmy 4-H kids and parents. YamboreeAnother reminder to everyone, they need to be thinking of what animal(s)that they will be or want to be showing at the Yamboree this year. Thesteer and dairy validation has already come and gone but you still have swine,goats, rabbits, and broilers to choose from. If you want to show in theHarvest Festival please look over the validation deadlines that were sent outat the end of June via email—deadline will be here before you know it.D5 Horse ShowDistrict 5 Horse Show was a great success. Tobie Martin representedUpshur County well. He took charge and brought home the Champion JudgedWestern, and Reserve Champion Mare. He will advance to State. Way to go!Goat ClinicThe Goat Clinic that was held on May 28 and June 25 was a great success. Ifeel everyone learned a lot. Remember that there will be a Jackpot Show inMarshall on August 22, 2009. There is a 70% payback in each class with a 16.00 entry fee per head. Weigh-in 7-9 A.M. Pig show begins at 9:30followed by lambs and goats.Sheep/Goat Mentor Training will be held August 7-9 in San Angelo, TX. Theprogram begins on Friday at 6:00 P.M. and will conclude on Sunday atapproximately 2:00 P.M. You can register on 4-H Connect. The purpose ofthe program is to train sheep and goat project leaders to provide support tonew feeders (families in 1-3 years of feeding sheep/goats). The training willprovide these project leaders with a valuable set of resources from which tobuild and support families in your county who are new to the sheep and/orgoat project. Multi County CampsTo the kids going to Multi County Camp and Leadership Lap on July 13-15—Have FUN and Learn LotsWelding*Attention Needing a Teacher!!!! I am looking for any parent that would bewilling to teach a welding class for the 4-H students. The County has justwon a Lincoln Wire welding machine. I would like the kids to learn a neededskill and also give them a chance to compete in the shop projects at theYamboree. But I need a volunteer. If there is anyone who is willing to dothis, please let me know!!!!
