JUNE 7-11EXPLORING ART 101ELEMENTS OF ARTAges 5–6 9am–12pm 115 Members/ 125 Non-membersStudents learn about the elements of artwhile inventing their own colorful creation.This class engages the creativity of youngartists while teaching some of the basicsof art such as color, line, value, and more.Each week offers a new and exciting age-appropriate art classthat will inspire and challenge your child. The KMA’s certified arteducators provide instruction in small groups with personalizedinstruction.Classes are held at the Knoxville Museum of Art. Morning classesare offered each week for children ages 5–12. One-week classesstart Monday, June 7, and continue each week through Friday, July30. Students mix all of their owncolors, make their own color wheel, learnabout color harmony, color context, andmore!WHAT DO COLORS MEAN?Ages 10–12 9am–12pm 115 Members/ 125 Non-membersColors can mean many different things. Inthis class students will learn about colorsand what colors can mean in art work, andwhat artists want the colors to say.

JUNE 14-18GETTING IN LINE!COLORED PENCILS AND MOREAges 5–6 9am–12pm 115 Members/ 125 Non-membersStudents will explore a variety of drawingtechniques with colored pencil andtraditional graphite. In this class studentswill learn to build and layer to createbeautiful, realistic drawings.MATH AND ART!Ages 7–9 9am–12pm 115 Members/ 125 Non-membersUsing geometry and art, students willbe challenged to use a mix of shapes tocreate geometric patterns. Using triangles,squares, rectangles, fractals, solids,lattices, and interlocking shapes, studentswill learn its endless possibilities.STOP-MOTIONAges 10–12 9am–12pm 115 Members/ 125 Non-membersThe films will premiere Sunday, August 8on the KMA’s YouTube Channel.The class will develop a fundamentalunderstanding of stop-motion animationwhile exploring an exciting variety ofanimation techniques. Students will useclay, paper, legos, toys, found objects, andmore to bring their ideas to life. Throughshort screenings and demos, the classwill draw inspiration from the history ofanimation and contemporary stop-motionartists. Students will learn the full creativeprocess from start to finish, includingcamera set up and shooting, characterand story creation, set building, andmore. Students will develop their ideasand interests in both independent andcollaborative projects.JUNE 21-25PAINTING AND MIXINGCREATIVE PAINTINGAges 5–6 9am–12pm 115 Members/ 125 Non-membersStudents will create vibrant paintings whilegaining knowledge and understanding offundamental painting techniques.ENDLESS PAINTING POSSIBILITIESAges 7–9 9am–12pm 115 Members/ 125 Non-membersStudents will learn new ways to create amasterpiece working with paint and othermaterials. Each day students will cover adifferent genre of painting with an activity.SKETCHING AND PAINTINGAges 10–12 9am–12pm 115 Members/ 125 Non-membersThe Higher Ground exhibition will bethe inspiration for students to create anartwork from start to finish. Students willsketch their ideas and turn the sketchinto a painting. Students will use differenttypes of drawing media and acrylic paint.JUNE 28-JULY 2CLAY AND SCULPTURESTUDIOSPAPER MÂCHE’ FUNAges 5–6 9am–12pm 115 Members/ 125 Non-membersStudents will use paper-mâche’, sculpture,painting, and drawing to create masks.CLAY ADVENTURE!Due to the drying and firing time needed tocomplete a ceramic piece, artworks will needto be picked up at a later date.
