While online learningisn’t new at College of DuPage, COVID-19and the resulting closures have allowed us torapidly take remote learning opportunities tonew heights to continue to serve you in thesechallenging times.Here are some summer coursehighlights:Community College Collaboration Series(see page 56)—A new, innovative partnershipwith area community colleges allows usto offer brand new courses to LifelongLearners throughout northern Illinois. Thecollaboration consists of a dynamic series ofcourses created by partnering communitycolleges including Harper College, McHenryCounty College and Rock Valley College. Byjointly offering these courses, we can ensurestudents from across the region continue toconnect to inspiring topics and teachers evenat a distance.Brewery Treks and Virtual Taste Tours (seepage 67)—Beer lovers and friends can joinus for adventures along America’s Ale Trails.This series of courses will transport you tosome of the best beer hotspots in America. Wewill virtually visit breweries and brewpubsand learn the stories behind some of ourfavorite craft beers. You will enjoy a guidedtour of craft beer tastings and learn industrytidbits on brewing and brand-building. Wewill provide a recommended list of beerbrands to purchase on your own and enjoywith us “in class.”College Now (see page 28)—Designed forjuniors and seniors in high school, studentscan be admitted to COD early and are eligibleto take courses for college credit with theirhigh school peers online or at the NapervilleCenter. Students can get a head start on theircollege career this summer through CollegeNow at COD. These transferable Gen Edscan reduce the overall cost of college whileimproving your student’s college applicationby successfully completing rigorous collegelevel courses while in high school.Free Zoom Basics for Beginners (see page36)—Are you hesitant about taking classes thissummer because you are unsure about how thevirtual classroom format works? We are onceagain offering our popular free Zoom basicscourses. We had more than 100 studentsjoin our spring Zoom Basics courses andlook forward to helping more students gainconfidence and experience with this excitingand important tool for video communication.Real Estate Broker Programs (see page68)—In addition to our comprehensive,state-approved training to prepare studentsfor the Illinois Real Estate Broker LicenseExamination, we have added a new threecourse series (45 hours) to fulfill staterequirements for brokers who were licensed inIllinois after Nov. 1, 2019. Youth AcademyEssential Program InformationVirtual ClassroomsGoogle AccountsAll youth courses are scheduled to take placevirtually using Zoom. Students need access to acomputer with high-speed internet, a webcam andmicrophone. Information will be shared on the YouthAcademy webpage, cod.edu/youth, when youthprograms are permitted to meet on campus. Thelatest information regarding campus closures can befound at cod.edu/coronavirus.Some courses may use Google Classroomor other Google suite applications. For thesecourses, students will be given a Google accountwithin the College’s education domain. Theusername and temporary password will be sentvia email to the student’s email address providedwithin the Youth Academy Online Waiver beforeclass begins. Students are encouraged to log inas soon as possible to ensure access and changetheir temporary password. It is important tomonitor spam folders for emails from @cod.eduand @gafe.cod.edu email addresses. Instructorswill communicate how and when to use theGoogle accounts during class or by email.Zoom MeetingsFor each registered course, students receive aZoom meeting invite by email from their instructor,to the student’s email address provided within theYouth Academy Online Waiver. Register early to ensure aspot is available for your child. Once the capacityhas been reached, a waitlist will be started.
