Our goal is for 100% of students to graduate withtwo degrees in two years. New research shows that students who earn an unweighted GPA of 3.0 orhigher are far more likely to graduate with a bachelor’s degree. We are here to support you! Sexual Health EducationThis school year your child will receive Sexual Health Education as part of the CPS Sexual HealthEducation Policy. Depending on your child’s grade level, topics may include: Personal Safety, HumanReproduction and Childbirth, Puberty, HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs),Contraception and Pregnancy Prevention (a condom demonstration will be included), Abstinence,Healthy Relationships, and Decision Making. You are welcome to meet with the principal at our fist PACmeeting where we’ll share the lessons and information we’ll be teaching your student. The Boardacknowledges that parents/guardians are the primary sexuality educators for their child/children. DeVryUniversity Advantage Academy is committed to partnering with you to provide supplementaryinstruction to students via the sexual health education lessons.In alignment with Illinois law (“ No pupil shall be required to take or participate in any class or course onAIDS or family life instruction if his parent or guardian submits written objection thereto, and refusal totake or participate in the course or program shall not be reason for suspension or expulsion of the pupil.”105 ILCS 110/3), a parent/guardian must provide a timely written objection to opt their child/childrenout of participating in any CPS Sexual Health Education course. No student with a written parentalobjection will be suspended or expelled for refusal to participate in any such course. If you wish to haveyour child excused from participation, please inform Principal Ruiz-Villa in writing.Social Emotional ScreeningThe staff at DeVry University Advantage Academy High School, in an effort to better meet thesocial-emotional needs of our students, would like to screen your student’s advisory classroom todetermine if the students have made positive and productive adjustments to DeVry. The results will beconfidential and used to determine if follow up is necessary. If you object to your student participatingin this screening, please contact Ms. Ricker, DeVry school counselor. Thank you in advance for your cooperation andsupport in this worthwhile endeavor.Locker GuidelinesAll DUAA students are provided with a locker and a DUAA lock during the regular high school year. Tomaintain safety and to preserve the lockers, please adhere to the following guidelines: Only the lock provided by DUAA may be used. Lockers must remain locked at all times when not in use. In the case of high enrollment, students may be asked to share lockers. Both students shareresponsibility for the state and the contents of the shared locker. Students may not change locker assignments or lock assignments without permission from theprincipal. Students may not share combinations or share lockers without permission from the principal. Students may not store items that do not belong to them inside their locker.TranscriptsHigh School: All students must fill out a transcript request form found in the main office. Once the formis filled out, please give us 2-4 school days to fulfill the request at no charge. College: Students mustrequest via their online DeVry student portal.Contracts and BAG reportsBeing successful requires setting goals, monitoring your progress, and making adjustments as needed. Inorder to support you in finding success, we have created Junior and Senior Contracts which contain theminimum level of performance expected at DUAA. In addition to the CPS Student Portal and your DeVryCourse Shell, we will also distribute BAG (Behavior, Attendance, and Grades) reports every few weeks inadvisory so that you can monitor your progress. If a student breaks their Junior or Senior contract, thePrincipal will request a parent and student conference.4

This documentationis due to your advisor.Seniors must complete 2 service learning projects. Service Project 1 in anysubject due by February 5, 2021 and Civics Service Learning Project inPolitics/Ethics class due by June 4, 2021Seniors must provide evidence to their advisor of 3 scholarship applications byApril 22, 2021. Scholarships must require at least a 250 word essay; theycannot be a raffle or drawing.Seniors must pass all of their high school and college classes during their senioryear.Seniors must earn all required credits (24 minimum). They must also pass thepublic law exam, financial literacy, driver’s education, complete 2 servicelearning projects, and have taken the SAT during a school day administration tocomplete non-credit requirements.Seniors must provide a concrete postsecondary plan and upload proof of the planinto their Naviance account in order to graduate. As such, students are expected to follow professional casual dress guidelines. Avoid imagesor slogans that may be offensive or reference illegal behavior. See examples of professional dress hips/a/dress code.htmCell Phones / Smart WatchesWe want our students to be fully engaged in instruction and not distracted by electronics. Unless youhave express permission, smart phones and smart watches should be out of sight, out of mind.Entering the Main OfficeAll students must wear their IDs when entering the Main Office. They are to check in with the officemanager and take a seat until the person they wish to see is available. If no seats are available, pleaseline up in the hallway. No student may enter the teacher area without permission.6

ID PolicyStudents must present their ID card to enter the building. If a student does not have their ID in themorning, the high school main office will give them a temporary ID for the day. Any student needing atemporary ID more than once a quarter may face disciplinary action. Safety is everyone’s responsibility!Students must have their DeVry University Identification Badges (ID) cards displayed at all times . Thishelps to ensure that only authorized people are on campus. The card must be worn, visibly displayed,and must be presented to a DUAA or DeVry University staff member upon request. No altering of the IDcard is allowed. Stickers, pictures, pins, writing etc. may not be placed on the ID. Only the picture takenat school may be displayed. If a student steals an ID, uses another student's ID card, forges an ID card, oruses a temporary ID on a day other than the day it was issued, he or she will face disciplinary action. Anyfurther improper uses of an ID will result in further disciplinary action at the discretion of the principal.The first ID is included in your student fees. The University Handbook can be found dbook.pdf .The Student Code of Conduct (SCC) helps to create a safe environment for all students and schoolpersonnel. The SCC sets forth the expected behaviors for students as well as procedures for addressinginappropriate behavior. The full text of the SCC can be found on the Chicago Public Schools’ mainwebsite at www.cps.edu . All rules and guidelines in the SCC are applicable at DUAA. The SCC alsoapplies to all before- and after-school functions or any event where the student represents the school.Students may also be subject to discipline for acts of misconduct which occur either on or off campus.No matter where a student is, he/she represents the school and must behave in an exemplary manner.Students who cannot guarantee orderly conditions by their own self-discipline require the school toexert external controls and, if necessary, to impose disciplinary actions. Students who commit repeatedGroup 4, 5, or 6 SCC violations may be ineligible for participation in school-sponsored activities andeligible for administrative transfer per the participation agreement.7

Building Usage ExpectationsPart of being united is to take care of our shared building! Students are allowed to be on campus duringnormal operating hours, even when the high school office is closed. All students are expected to treatour campus as a professional work environment.Computer Labs / ClassroomsDeVry University offers computer labs at various times and locations for students to completeassignments, perform research, and accomplish school-related tasks. Students should remember thatcomputer labs are work areas—not recreational areas—and they should behave respectfully toward labattendants and DeVry University students. Users must follow the various computer lab rules in order tohelp maintain an environment where students can learn and study. These rules include: No eating or drinking and No food trash in the classrooms! All food trash should be disposed ofin the cafeteria or Commons trash. No cell phone use No loud/disruptive conversations or horseplay No streaming video No visiting social-networking sites or playing games Doors remain unlocked at all times Lights remain on at all timesDeVry Network Usage Policy:All DUAA students must use the network/computer resources in an ethical and responsible manner, incompliance with state and federal laws. A network account is a privilege granted by DeVry and thisprivilege can be revoked if it is not exercised responsibly.Respecting the Lab Equipment:Users must not make any alterations to the computer hardware or network configuration.Academic Use Only:Access to our network is specifically given for DeVry-related activities. Examples of prohibited activitiesinclude: Transmitting or making accessible offensive, obscene, or harassing materials Conducting or attempting to conduct security experiments or security scans without the specificauthorization of the IT Department. Streaming audio or video from various internet radio websites. Downloading from Peer-to-Peer clients or file sharing clients.Offensive Communications:Users are not to use our network/computer resources to display, generate, or spread any messages thatmay be obscene, demeaning, defamatory, libelous, or pornographic.Software Piracy:Unauthorized copying of software is illegal and may force DeVry as well as individuals to incur legalsanctions. Unless software has been placed specifically for public access, the owner of a copyright holdsexclusive rights to the reproduction and distribution of his/her work.Levels of ConversationFollow the Levels of Conversation to ensure you are being United and not disturbing other students.Always use the Level of Conversation as directed by your teachers and professors. In the hallwaysbetween classes, in labs, and classrooms outside of class time, students should maintain a quiet Level 1(only the person next to you can hear you). Louder conversations can be had in the Commons and HScafeteria. Remember to follow all directions from any campus employee.8
