They spentthe summer of 2007 tirelessly pledging their energies to enhancing Howard Law’scommitment to on-campus recycling.Pursuant to the Commercial Recycling Guide, the District of Columbiarequires all commercial establishments through a recycling program, to 1) separaterecyclables from other solid waste, 2) ensure there are adequate containers forseparated recyclables, and 3) hire a licensed recycling hauler to regularly pick uprecyclables. Failure to comply with such requirements is punishable by fines, rangingfrom 25.00 to 1,000.The Langston Chapter Executive Board began a letter writing campaign toHoward’s administration, including everyone from the Dean of the law schoolto the Facilities Manager at Howard’s main campus. They were also in closecommunication with the District of Columbia Office of Recycling, which helpeddevelop a plan simple enough to be immediately effective. After much persistence, their efforts proved fruitful in that the administration promised to adhere to therecycling mandate by the end of Fall 2007. In the future, Langston Chapter hasagreed to be responsible for monitoring the law school’s use of the recyclingbins through a committee consisting of both P.A.D. and non-P.A.D. members- atrue community effort!“THE REPORTER” – PAGE 8

Submitted by, Ron Winter, International SecretaryThroughout my travelsthis fall on behalf of theFraternity, I have noted acompetitiveness that wascontagious from one districtto the next. Chapter leaderswere unfazed by thechallenge to initiate as manyor more students during thisacademic year than had everbeen done in the history oftheir chapter. Many of themhave already stepped up to“meet or beat” the old record, and stillothers are hard at work laying thegroundwork for programming that willensure successful rush efforts throughoutthe fall and spring. I am optimistic thatthis spirit of fraternalism will result in yetanother record-setting year.Much of the success of the fall thusfar can be attributed in large part to thecompletion of fall calendars during thespring and summer.
