It will be open from 07:15 and forthe remainder of the event. Racking will benumbered and will be accessed via the bike in /bike out entry point. Entries in Wave 1 will againhave priority. Entrance and exit to transition will beby race number only, which must match yourframe sticker number.Registration will be open from 07:00 - 10:00 andtakes place in the Romney Room to the right ofreception as you enter the Leisure Centre. Pleaseproduce photo ID.Please attend registration at least 1 hour beforeyour wave start time.You will be given a race pack at registration withthe following:RULES GOVERNING THE EVENTThe event will be held under the rules of the BritishTriathlon Federation and competitors are advisedto familiarise themselves with the rules andregulations that will be applied to this race,otherwise you may be penalised for breaking anyrule. T2.EventsKendal Sprint Triathlon 28/04/19NON-DRAFTINGCOMPETITOR CONDUCTThis race is a non-drafting race for all categoriesmeaning competitors are not allowed to takeshelter behind or beside another competitor ormotor vehicle during the cycling segment of therace.Competitors are reminded that they share both thepool facilities and the highway with other citizenswho may or may not be fully aware of the event.We request that you treat both members of thepublic including other road users, marshals, othercompetitors, event officials and venue staff withrespect. Any use of profanity or aggression towardsany other parties will result in an immediate DQfrom the event and a ban from all future eventshosted by the promoters. Please try to remaincourteous on the road even if some other roadusers may not offer you the same respect.The draft zone is a rectangle measuring ten metreslong by three metres wide, which surrounds everycycle on the cycle course (approximately the size ofan estate car). The front edge of the front wheeldefines the centre and top edge of the rectangle. Acompetitor may enter the draft zone of anothercompetitor, but must be seen to be progressingthrough that zone.RULES GOVERNING THE HIGHWAYA maximum of 20 seconds is allowed to progressthough the draft zone of another competitor. If anovertaking manoeuvre is not completed within 20seconds, the overtaking cyclist must drop back.Time penalties and DQs will be issued by thereferee for infringements. Under new guidelines itis not required for the referee to inform you untilthe event is completed.You are reminded that the cycle section is on openroads, so please ensure that you observe the rulesof the road at all times and follow the HighwayCode. Any reported infringements, such as crossingwhite centre lines, or failing to take due care willresult in a DQ. It is also illegal and may result in aprosecution by the police.Please recognise that Race Marshals are notpermitted under British law to stop the traffic andwill not do so under any circumstances. Marshalsare there to give direction only. Competitors areresponsible for making their own decisions as towhether it is safe to proceed or not. If in doubtcompetitors should stop!CYCLE HELMETSYou must take the utmost care at junctions andshould note in the course details that you do nothave right of way at a number of sections, checkthat the junction is clear before continuing. Youmust obey the Highway Code, which is also theLaw.BIKESApproved hard shell cycle helmets will becompulsory and must be worn throughout thecycle section. They must be fastened prior toexiting transition and neither undone nor removeduntil your bike is racked following the cycle stage.It is the responsibility of all competitors to ensurethat their bike is in a roadworthy condition andadheres to the rules and regulations as specified bythe British Triathlon Federation.Page 2

There will be a timing mat on theentry of transition and at the finish line. When youhave crossed the timing mat at the finish, pleaseremove your chip & strap and place in the bucketprovided.Live results will be available onhttps://my3.raceresult.com/117170/You will be issued with one, which must be clearlyvisible on your back for the bike and your front forthe run. Do not cut or fold this race number, aspenalties will be issued for number mutilation.Elastic belts for race numbers are permitted, butplease ensure your race number is visible as youexit transition for the bike, when leaving transitionfor the run and most importantly when you crossthe finish line. For relay teams, the swimmers willnot require a number, the cyclist will wear theirnumber of their back and the runner will weartheir number on their front.Any queries relating to provisional results must bee-mailed to tasha@t2.events by Tuesday followingthe event, after which time all results will bedeemed as final and complete.RACE BRIEFINGPRIZE PRESENTATIONThere will be a short race briefing on poolside 10mins before each wave start for all athletes. Pleaseattend this race briefing as any last minutechanges, as well as any questions will be answeredhere.There will not be a presentation on the day.Prizes will be posted out.REFRESHMENTSALL RELAY MEMBERS ARE TO ATTEND THEBRIEFING – CYCLISTS AND RUNNERS WILL NEEDTO BE ON POOLSIDET2.events will be providing hot drinks and FrenchFancies once you have crossed the finish line.START TIMESWave times have been allocated by estimated timeand will be confirmed by the Wednesday prior tothe event. Women will start from 08:00 with thevisual impaired wave taking place at around 09:00followed by the male waves. Please note, once theswim times have been set, you cannot swap waves– please don’t email and ask.Page 3

T2.EventsKendal Sprint Triathlon 28/04/19COURSE DETAILSOn completion of 14 of the required 16 lengths a“2 laps to go” board will be placed into the water infront of you.SWIM 400mYOU ARE ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE FORCOUNTING YOUR OWN LENGTHS DO NOT RELYON THE LAP COUNTER.When leaving the pool you do so by the fire exit tothe front of the Leisure Centre and proceed ontothe grass to the transition area. Please be carefulrunning barefoot. Be aware of runners from earlierwaves exiting transition.ALL CLOTHING MUST BE IN TRANSITION, IT IS NOTALLOWED ON POOLSIDE.There is a swim cut off time of 15 minutes. If youfail to swim your required distance in that timeyou will be asked to leave the pool. You will beallowed to continue the event and your swimtime will be recorded as 15 minutes.The 400m swim will be conducted in a series ofwaves. The wave times have been selected usingyour submitted estimated swim times (Slowestfirst). Each lane will contain three to fourswimmers, set off by a countdown at 10 secondintervals in a specific order.Lane 1 will swim anti-clockwise, Lane 2 clockwiseand so on.ALL COMPETITORS WILL PUSH START IN THEWATER, DIVING INTO THE POOL IS NOT ALLOWEDAT ANY TIME. TUMBLE TURNS ARE ALLOWED.The lane order has been selected on swim times,however, if you do catch the swimmer in front,please tap their feet a couple of times, it is thenthe responsibility of the swimmer in front to letyou pass at the end of the current length. Please bepatient and do not attempt to overtake during thelength. A 30sec penalty may be awarded if thefront swimmer does not obey this rule and a 30secpenalty may be awarded for unsporting behaviourin the pool.Page 4

At the end of the road youturn right, uphill, take care at this junction. Turnleft at the Station Inn pub, Hayclose Lane. This is asmaller lane with the potential for farm machinery.At the end you will turn left which will descendSingleton Park Road towards Castle Park Roadwhich is a residential area with zebra crossings androads joining from both directions. Extra caution isrequired down this descent. The road continuesfollowing the one way system, crossing the Riverand zebra crossings, traffic lights, pedestriancrossings are all present.By K Village you need to be in the right hand lane,again another sign will remind you of this.BIKE 20km (two 10km laps)For the bike section signs will be in place similar tothose pictured.On approaching the leisure centre from theroundabout you will either complete another lapor dismount to finish.The roads are not closed and it is yourresponsibility to ride according to the HighwayCode at all times.After exiting the bike transition area push your biketo the mount line which will be just past the zebracrossing. You then make your way towardsOxenholme on the A65, passing through trafficlights and crossing a roundabout by Asda. Returnback to the centre, passing the back of the centreonto the main road where you will follow the walland be in sight of the finish line.View the run course here:https://www.strava.com/routes/16443031RELAY TEAM INFORMATIONEach relay team will need to register together.Each team will be issued with a timing chip, whichwill act as the relay baton, two race numbers andone number sticker. The swimmer will start withthe timing chip, the cyclist will take a race numberfor their back and the number sticker (for the bike)and the runner will take a race number for theirfront.RUN 3.3 miles (5km)The relay teams will all start within the first few(number of teams dependent) waves according totheir submitted swim time and all team memberswill need to be at the race briefing on poolside 10minutes before their wave start time. Once theswim starts the cyclists will make their way totransition, showing their race number on arrivalthrough transition entrance and will await theirincoming swimmer.For the run section signs will be in place similar tothose pictured above. There are no drink stationson the run course, so please ensure you carrysufficient provision or you are suitably hydratedbefore you commence the run.After racking your bike you will proceed out of thetop of the transition area along the footpath. Thisis the old canal which is now shared betweencyclists and walkers. Follow the path to Parksideroad where you will cross using the island in theroad. Continue along the path at the allotmentsyou will be directed right, you will then follow thesigns which will take you past the ski slope towardsthe bottom of the climb to the castle. Run anticlockwise around the castle. You will then bedirected towards to football pitches which will be asteep descent, take extra care here. As the swimmers exitthe pool they run towards transition and then findtheir cyclist – the timing chip is then removed bythe swimmer and placed on the leg of the cyclist.The cyclist then completes the bike route.
