It was attended by more than 1,000construction industry leaders.Bardonaro, president and chief operating officer ofAmQuip Crane Rental LLC in Bensalem, Pa., wasrecognized for raising the bar on crane safety.Contractors do not usually ask regulators to imposemore restrictions, but a trend in fatal crane accidentslast year prompted Bardonaro to act swiftly to cleanup safety lapses. After hearing of initial regulationsdrafted in Philadelphia, he assembled industrygroups, including a local steel erector, labor unionsand a rigging company, to help the city craft a moreintelligent policy.Source: www.gbcanet.orgThe Philadelphia tower-crane standard, signed intolaw in December 2008, had unanimous support, andis the most comprehensive crane regulation in the U.S.,addressing safe operations, rigging, signaling andinspections, and may be amended later to includemobile cranes. It is time to partake in the funand frivolity for which the season calls. These arethe sweet rewards of coping with the harsh winterweather and its miseries. As members of theAmQuip family, where safety is a number one priority, we must remember to practice these idealswhile enjoying our summer activities.Please remember to act wisely when enjoying thesummer activities and if these activities involvealcoholic beverages please do not drink and drive.If you are hosting, be sure options are available soyour guests make it home safely. Elect a designated driver, offer over-night accommodations if roomis available. Don’t let a good time end in tragedy.Stay safe in the sun. Use sun protection that willadequately keep your skin from burning while outdoors. Be aware of heat-related illnesses and thesigns and symptoms associated with them. Drinkplenty of water to avoid becoming dehydrated andseek a shaded area to cool down.We are nearly through one-half of the year. Oursafety performance is good in many areas and attimes has leant us opportunities to improve. Wemust strive to make and keep safety our top priorityif we are to prosper. It is important that we exercise safe behaviors and ensure our work practicesas well as the work practices of our co-workers.Together we can achieve break through safety performance and keep our most valuable asset safe.HUMAN RESOURCES CORNERTristan Coplien, HR GeneralistHuman Resources have been busy this year! Thedepartment has added another person, KateKing, and we have rolled out new benefits toeveryone for August 1.AmQuip has switched health benefit providers toBlue Cross Blue Shield, dental benefits providerto Assurant, and a Flexible Spending Accounthas been added effective August 1, 2009. Thisis a lot of changes for one open enrollment, butI know that all of them will benefit AmQuipemployees. Here are some reminders about ournew benefits:1 – After you reach your deductible ( 500 for asingle/ 750 for a family) please bring in proofto Human Resources to have your HRA turnedon. You still have to meet the deductible set byBlue Cross Blue Shield. An explanation of benefit (EOB) can be obtained from BCBS for proof.2 – If you elected to participate in the FlexibleSpending program, monitor your balance closelythroughout the year. If you don’t use – you willlose it!3 – Your FSA can pay for your deductible (if youelected to participate).4 – The deductible covers you for a plan year.AmQuip’s plan year runs from August 1 throughJuly 31.If you have any questions about your benefits,please contact Human Resources.It is up to every AmQuip individual to ensurenew heights of safety performance to get backto basics and shine as example to all.
