SOLVE YOURSUDOKUJUNE—OCTOBER 2009IBC1951.MULTIPLY.COMPurpose StatementWhy Bell?By: Anna Rosella F. ArceoThe Purpose of Immanuel Bible College is to operate a religious educational college at post-highschool level to train students for effective Christian ministry and churchrelated vocations by promoting Spiritual maturity, imparting the full-gospelheritage, teaching theWord of God, Christiandoctrine and related subjects, by fostering Christian character and by training in practical skills foreffective communicationof the gospel.VISION STATEMENT:Immanuel Bible College isan educational and ministerial institution of theAssemblies of God that iscommitted to:14 PAGESSure enough, for the school paper to be named as “the Bell”, it sounds weird. That is, if you arenot a real part of the Immanuel Bible College community!Immanuel Bible College basically lives and depends upon the laws set by this small, but very powerful tool called the BELL. We wake up every five o’clock in the morning at the sound of the rising bell.We do our respective dorm and Christian Service assignments in response to the bell. We rush to thekitchen every mealtime at the ring of the bell. We cut off the discussions in class whenever we hearthe familiar reverberation from the administrative office bell. We are silenced by the jingle of the bellin library when we get too noisy, and breath a sigh of relief when it tinkles again, knowing that it istime to make our exit. Finally, it is also the bell, which either lulls or forces us to go to sleep when theclock strikes ten in the evening. Generally speaking, the bell represents every student’s way of life inIBC. It may be a bit awkward at first, to think that one would be living right under the influence ofthe bell, but somehow, in the process, we learn that through undergoing the strict training enforcedby the law of the bell, we are being moulded into the ministers God wants us to be!Just like the original tool, the publication symbolizes the life, the events and the ideas of, if possibly, each and every student studying in Immanuel Bible College. The IBC Publications Bell not only journals events that have occurred within the semester, but also presents the very heart of these activities, which is the fact that lives are being changed from glory to glory as every student is beingformed into vessels worthy of bearing God’s power and glory!Immanuel Bible College’s Publication Depart-trained but also to be part of creating these valu-ment is blessed with creative, exceptionalable reminders that will last for years. Trueyoung people with artistic ability, who are moreenough, the new and improved PR Team is anthan willing to give their best without countinganswered prayer from the Lord.the cost. Time, energy, comfort are sacrificedjust to accomplish the task of publishing twoyearbooks (The TORCH 2008-09 & 09-10). TheyTrain: People with thecalling for effective ministry.have also braved the risks of working overtimeEquip: A community ofbelievers that incarnatesChrist’s likenessschool paper (The Bell) which is due before thisSend: qualified Pentecostal leaders for service andmissionsthem. With that, I can say with a beam that Godon Library Hours, headaches, eye strains, just tojournal the events during the semester in thesemester ends. Despite their hectic schedule, they gave more than what is expected fromis at work in IBC, especially in the lives of the PRpeople—He knows exactly what IBC needs. Hesent these young people here not only to beMuchas gracias, Señor!As a team, we have a goal to produce a worthkeeping yearbook for this Academic Year 200910. That is not achievable, however, without thecollaboration of everyone—the administration, faculty, staff and the student body as well. It’sour prayer that through these projects, ourschool will be made known not only through thelives of our students and friends, but alsothrough our open-handed sponsors who arekeen to partner with us in this endeavour. Afterall, we are working in the same vineyard whoseowner is our Immanuel!

Page 2New Pages, New Faces, New BeginningsBy: Rev. Wenifredo Capapas Jr, IBC President“ In Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. Wehave different gifts, according to the grace given us.” (Rom. 12:5-6a)It is amazing to see the rich configurations of gifts and talents that the Lord has given to the students of Immanuel Bible College! We are very grateful to Him for bringing them to IBC and useeach of them to bless the whole community. This academic year (2009-2010) is quite significant because, finally, IBC has breached the 100mark in its enrolment. We have seen an influx of new students this year, which brought the totalstudent population to 113. Undoubtedly, this is a result of the prayers offered to the Lord withinthese past many years! Also, this school year opened with ALL IBC degree programs (AB Theology,AB Religious Education, and AB Music) having recognition of the Commission on Higher Education(CHED) of the Republic of the Philippines. This would have been a long shot which borders to animpossibility a few years back. All of these show that the Lord has been with this school all along, and He is lifting it up towards greater heights for His glory.I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all the new students and faculty and staff to IBC.You have joined a community made up of truly special people---all are chosen, called, and giftedby God.Lastly, I would like to congratulate the IBC PR Team under the guidance of their adviser, Ma’amAmor Amispero, for the resumption of The Bell’s publication after a brief lull. Your dedication tothis endeavour is commendable. Surely, this piece of work will bless the whole community andloudly proclaim the glory of God!Immanuel Assembly.Ministering to the MinistersBy: Rev. Neil Fajardo, IA PastorImmanuel Assembly is a church inside Immanuel Bible College which caters the spiritual needsof the community. It creates an avenue where faculty, staff, and students receive spiritual instructions from God’s word in most days of the week. Here, we celebrate God’s faithfulnessthrough lively singing and deep worship as we are revived and energized by the Holy Spirit participating in every service, prayer meeting, and other activities. Here, a group of students were given an opportunity to be trained and experienced an actualchurch ministry. A student pastor is elected every semester together with his/her pastoral staffand deacons to minister among fellow students and to the community. Senior students weregiven a chance to preach and admonished IBC family before they graduate. Most of the timesthey were emotional and the same time thankful for God’s faithfulness in their lives, for theteachers who mentored them patiently and the shared experiences with the students that madethem even stronger. Indeed it is the altar that will leave an indelible mark in the hearts of everystudent who will enter and go out of the gate of IBC, Immanuel Assembly is a part of it.

Thewaters of the river of life began to flow, wave after wave of glory carrying everyone to float into the streams of the riverof God. It was an awesome experienceindeed! The week-long Spiritual Emphasis wassuch a life-creating and transforming experience—indeed a refreshing moment toalways desire to and be treasured upon. Glory to our King!!!WELCOMING THE FRESHMEN!.By: Anna Rosella F. ArceoThe smell of a luscious dinner wafted in the air, whilea busy throng of students anxiously prepared theschool grounds for the upcoming event ignited excitement to the newest additions to the IBC family. With laughter and music, as well as conversations carried outloudly and restlessly by everyone, the preparation ImmanuelBible College’s Acquaintance Party announces more thrillingevents to happen next.By the time that the clock struck 6:30 in the evening of the19th of June 2009, the atmosphere in IBC changed. Gone wasthe tension that filled everyone, and the viand-smelling—orsweat-drenched clothes of the upperclassmen have beendiscarded and replaced by their best clothes, equalling theFreshmen’s attire for the event. Anticipation and gaiety nowflooded the IBC grounds as the evening’s program ensues, starting with a magnificent dinner. The night’s affair was hosted by Ma’am Charlotte Frincillo, one of IBC Music Department’s respected mentors, and wasstarted with a lively praise and worship time led by SeniorCathyren Quimco. This was followed by a word of welcome bynone other than Immanuel Bible’s College’s President, Rev.Wenifredo Capapas Jr., who acknowledged the presence ofthe new students, by addressing them as “the answers to ourprayers”. Ptr. Neil Fajardo, the newly-appointed Dean of Students also delivered his own address, welcoming everyone toanother challenging year with him and the rest of IBC’s leaders. After said speech, the upperclassmen, in turns, presentedspecial numbers after the testimonies of selected students. The testimonies included Freshman Roy Labao, who in fulldetail, retold the account of his conversion and call, followedby Ptra. Gerafe Roldan of the Sophomores declaring the miraculous provision of God throughout her life as a student inIBC. The Juniors also proudly put their best witness to howGod changes lives through the testimony of Mark Talibong, their present Immanuel Assembly deacon, whose life wasdrastically changed by the SOS (Summer of Service) held lastsummer’s May. Finally, the Seniors’ representative, JosueJohn Pilapil ended the testimony time with his very own storyof how Godtransformedhim from gloryto glory sincehis years as aFreshman untilnow, as agraduatingstudent.Special numbersfromselected students filled in the intervals after every testimony. The firstperformance came from a slap-dashed band, “the Cubes”,singing their very own version of Switchfoot’s “Dare You ToMove”, comprised of senior Gospelaire Abarquez on the vocals, sophomores Louie Gwenn Carsano and Charles DaveEscalante, on guitars and drums respectively, and junior FredOlen Ray Dinoro on the bass guitar. Another song numberwas next rendered by Dionivie Matranas, a second year Musicmajor student who sang one of the favorite worship anthemsof the campus, “Saving Grace”. After these, the selectedmembers of the IBC Dance Troupe, namely juniors AlbertoCuna Jr., Janna Lace Postrero and Jessyl Sygaco, and also Hartcheil Sellote, a sophomore, offered an encore of the dancenumber from last semester’s Voice of Triumph 5 concert. Lastbut definitely not the least to perform was senior JhoanaRomulo, who performed yet another remarkable and unforgettable song number. The installation and blessing of the newest student officers inall organizations, as well as the blessing of the Freshmenmarked the end of the night’s program. All in all, the acquaintance party was not only another successful feat, butalso an unforgettable, heart-warming event that will surelystay in everyone’s hearts for the years to come. Glory toGod!!!

Page 4HUDYAKA TA BAY!Celebrating 58 years of ImmanuelBy: Karla Jedni GloriaWho said that IBC is only for spiritual training?Last July 15-17 2009, IBCians were all fired up for the FOUNDATION WEEK 2009celebration. This yearly intramural activity consisted of games and sports, recreation andfun. At the same time, it also promoted sportsmanship, fellowship and health consciousness for all.The heavy downpour was not able to stop the grand opening of this year’sevent. Graced with the theme ” Hudyaka Ta Bay!” (“Let’s Celebrate!”), the three-dayexperience blasted off with a parade of dynamic students clustered into tribes: Judah,Manasseh, Ephraim and Benjamin, marching on a rain-drenched ground under a gloomy, drizzling sky.The FOUNDATION WEEK KICKOFF event was made possible through the effortsof the SCO officers lead by President Abraham Vasquez and his 3 angels (vice-presidentArmelyn dela Marquez, Secretary Sheryl Amarila and treasurer Karla Jedni Gloria), underthe supervision of the SCO Adviser Sir Neil Fajardo, and supported by the faculty andstaff and all the dear students who participated to make this Kick Off experience memorable. Our love and thanks to all of you in Christ Jesus!IBC Sports Clash: Tribes CollideBy: Charles Nissi II JacintoThe second day of Immanuel Bible College’s Foundation Week signalled the genesis ofthe inter-tribal Sports Clash, andneither the heat of the sun nor theunpredictable rainfall hindered the happening of this event. The gym, as well as theschool grounds, was filled with players andonlookers from all tribes.Of course, basketball—the most overplayedsport in IBC—was first in the list to be participated in. The men came first, wowing the audience with the expert moves of consistent MVPShamer Formentera of the seniors’ class, Rookieof the Year Jay Napala of the sophomores, and ofmany others who have made the game a thrillingand breathtaking one. The ladies did not let themen have all the fun as they too, have gottentheir share of the basketball court, playing just ashard as the men did. In the end, junior Mae JoyPeras gained the title as the MVP in the women’sdivision. Her younger sister, Recel Grace Peras, afreshman, followed her steps as she wasgranted the Female Rookie of the Yearaward.Volleyball, a favorite sport usually played inlazy afternoon and weekends, left its laidback attitude as it suddenly transformed intoa heated tribal battle among Ephraim, Manasseh, Judah and Benjamin. Gone were thedull moments wherein the ball would beusually served towards the wrong directionto be dug by no one. Instead, they were replaced by powerserves and dynamic smashes from each team.As tense as the ambience was, however, thegood humour of both players and spectatorsnever failed to refresh the tired and achingmuscles and alerted-to-the-highest-levelsenses. Once the camera aims towards theirdirection, our not-so-shy students still posetheir wackiest—if not best—knowing thatthere’s nothing better for the camera to expose rather than good publicity! If there were areas in which LOVE does not conquer all, it would be in the fields of badmintonand table tennis—wherein love means nothing atall. This is why our competitors valiantly strivedto earn points for their tribes by hitting the shuttlecock and the ping-pong ball with their strongest serves and amazing saves. Both the badminton and table tennis matches have been veryimpressive games! This year’s sports kickoff has surely been anotherevent to be remembered in IBC’s school calendar! With shouts and cheers overwhelmingthe usually undisturbed atmosphere of the IBCcampus the squeaking of rubber shoes againstthe concrete gym floor, the sound of ballseither being dribbled or served, scrabblepieces colliding with one another, and thesound of the shuttlecock monotonously hitting the nylon center of the badminton racket,Immanuel Bible College had definitely come tolife through the help of sports!

Page 5OPEN DOORS FOR THE OPEN HOUSE!!!By: Shalom OrcuseTheIBCFoundation Week isone of thebiggest eventswhichhavealways been apart of thesocial development of thestudents!Ithas left a significant mark in the history of Immanuel BibleCollege for already almost 48 years! One of the highlights of this year’s activity is the OPENHOUSE, which was held last July 15, 2009. During this time, all students, faculty and staff are given the privilege to enterand exploreeach other’sdormitories.Of course, fun, as expected ensues, aseveryonegets to discover whichroomiswhose! Thiseven arrivedat the point wherein the students, both male and female, gotto rush into each other’s dorms with shouts and squeals ofdelight! It was such a difficult task for the judges to decide who winsthe best and cleanest dormitory, since both dorms were keptclean. The judges have gone through all the meticulouschecking, though, and finally decided on who wins this mostcoveted award.Of course, it was the Ladies’ Dorm that achieved the saidreward. What an honor it was for the ladies, especially forMa’am Lily Balista, the Dean of Women. As for the awards for the cleanest rooms and lockers, Room103 in the Ladies’Dormitorywon the saidaward, withMommyJheilaYap and herdaughters, VivianMelencion,JobelynWalawala, andNaomi Torres. ItwasalsoRoom 202 withDaddy DarrenJayAntipuesto andEsterlito Cloribelalso got thesame award forthe Men’sDorm. As for theCleanestLocker award, itwasCathyren Quimcoof Room 205who gained thesaidtitle, saying, “ I was surprised; I didn’t expect ”. On the otherhand, it was Ptr. Jay Napala of the Men’s Dorm who wasawarded the same reward because of the very smooth andneat arrangement that he did with his locker.Once again, Immanuel Bible College’s Open House has succeeded to cause an impressive result to everyone—candiesfrom the Women’s Dormitory’s Prayer Room, and a fewitems for remembrance from the Men’s Dormitory!ENGLISH PAKA: The MovementBy: Anna Rosella F. ArceoThis somehow outrageous word (“Englishpaka”) instigated the lingual wildfire throughout the whole IBC student campus, the staff—andeven the visitors buying at the canteen! It maysound silly, but it seems like even without a verystrict implementation of the English-speakingpolicy, everyone has unconsciously—or morelikely, incidentally, changed the medium of communication in the school, as well as thoughtfullyconsidered and made room for grammar improvement among students!A NON-DISCRIMINATING MOVEThe fact that everyone was free to express themselves in English through the vocabulary (thoughwide or narrow) that they possessed made theEnglish-paka movement so influential and popular. Though we may not be conscious of it, theEnglish-speaking frenzy has helped each one of usdevelop our self-confidence to voice out what wewant, think and feel, in an entirely different language. Even in our simple conversations, thosewho are limited in grammar learn new words fromtheir chat-mates, and those who could speak fluently are given a bigger chance for exposure. The English-paka movement has unnoticeablytransformed the students’ way of thinking aboutthe said language. With freedom and tolerance tospeak even in Carabao-English, we have boostedeach other’s communication skills and even selfesteem. All things truly work together for ourgood! Hallelujah! Praise the God!! RADICALLY INFLUENTIALThis English-speaking frenzy demonstrated thefact that even small, insignificant things can beused to change something big, and reminds us thepassage in 1 Corinthians 1: 26, that God will usethe small things to confound the great, foolishthings to amaze the wise and even unnoticed, forgotten things to shake the foundations of themighty. The only thing needed is the willingnessto be used as God’s catalysts of change.True enough, when we learn to be willing to trysomething challenging (just like speaking in English), nothing is impossible. If “Carabao-English”changed the whole campus atmosphere, howmuch more will the little words of love and encouragement we share to others for God’s glorydo? The Englismovem h-pakaent hasunnotictransfo eablyrmstuden ed thets’ wayofthinkingabsaid lan out theguage.
