She says thatshe’s been making things her wholelife, but when she made her first quiltin 1999, she was hooked and hasbeen making quilts ever since. ForElizabeth, quiltmaking is the perfectcombination of creativity andtechnical challenge, all in the serviceof making a useful object.With the end ofTVQG’scurrentbusiness year fastapproaching,nominationsarebeing accepted forall board and committee positions.Our upcoming election date is May21, 2019. Board positions forPresident, Vice-President, Secretary,and Treasurer, must be filled in orderfor TVQG to continue as anorganization and for us to run as awell-functioning guild, we also needhelp from our committees. If you’reinterested in helping share the load,our current board and committeemembers urge you to assist byvolunteering to help. This is theonlyfundraisingeventTVQGparticipates in. Funds made fromWinter Bazaar sales allow us to give back to ourcommunity through charitable donations and benefits allour members by allowing us to continue to present highquality speakers or programs at our monthly meetings.Charity Quilters Sew DaysTVQG Charity Sew Days are open to everyone with no feeto participate. Charity Sew Days take place on the firstMonday of every month at the Sherwood Senior Center.Just bring your own sewing machine and project to workon or select a project from their well-stocked CharityQuilting Closet. TVQG’s next Charity Quilt Sew Day willtake place Monday, May 6, 2019.MembershipTVQG has 68 members. Pleasemake sure keep the MembershipCommittee updated with yourEmail address information. Then onSaturday, October 19th wewill be presenting a class ina sew day-type setting.TVQG events are alwaysopen for everyone in the community to attend.We’ll provide additional information to both ourmembers and to our local community with specific detailson each of these events as they develop.Days for GirlsTVQG has adopted Days for Girls as an ongoing charity tosupport. Their organization provides lasting hygienesolutions, health education, and income-generationopportunity to girls in Sub-Saharan Africa, India, and therural areas of Brazil. Our group strivesto complete two quilts a year. QOVSew Days take place monthly on aSaturday, start at 10:30 am, and areheld at Ace Sew and Vacuum inNewberg. If you have anyof these items to donate, please bring them to the April16th General Meeting. Our Charity Quilters team willdeliver your donations for you. Also if you have completeda quilt, or even a quilt top, that you would to donate toGNC, please give it to Betty Murphy or Vergie Karlson atthe next general meeting.CARES NorthwestCARES NW helps children who are abused or neglected byproviding them with a quilt. Child Abuse Response andEvaluation Services (CARES) Northwest is a collaborative,community-based medical program. Their mission is tostop child abuse and neglect through multidisciplinaryprevention, medical evaluation, and ongoing treatment inpartnership with the community. For each FatQuarter brought in thequilter receives a raffleticket. For April thetheme is Ribbons andBows Any fat quarterthat depicts ribbons orbows would fit this theme perfectly.TVQG members areinvited to make theBobbins Block as theApril 2019 Block-of-theMonth. Instructions tomake this block areavailableinthemember's only area ofTVQG’s webpage or attheendofthisnewsletter. It’s suggested this block be made using redand blue solid or print fabrics with white or white onwhite as the background fabric. We’ll hold a drawing forthe blocks at our April 16, 2019, General Meeting.Door PrizesEach month two 20 gift certificates are awarded toquilters attending the General Meeting. Everyoneattending the meeting, guests included, will receive aticket for the drawing. TVQG NEWSLETTERApril 2019Shows and EventsHearthstone At MurrayhillHearthstone is having their 7th Annual Quilt Show on May 4th from 1-4pm.Our goal again this year is to have over 100 quilts displayed and weneed volunteers willing to share their quilts. We take care to log eachquilt and keep them under lock & key for protection until displayed,and we would like to show your quilt.Delivery of quilts can be April 16, 23, and 30th from 10 am to 1 pm; orif needed, any other time 8 am to 5 pm. For questions please callShirley at 503 939 5897.Many quilters pick up their quilts at the end of the show, but if not, welock them up again until they can be returned. When picking up yourquilt, we ask that you check in with Shirley so she can mark them offthe log.We ask that an information sheet (available at Hearthstone) be filledout for each quilt which includes the owner and phone number, andalso a general history of the quilt.This year we will have a Mercantile (books, patterns, fabric, notions,etc.), raffle for small seasonal quilts, demonstration of the Accuquilt, aTea Room and a Men’s Lounge for those men who bless their wives incoming, but don’t have as long of attention span for the quilts.Page 5

TVQG NEWSLETTERApril 2019Mid-Valley Quilt Guild (MVQG) presents its 16th quilt show on April 18,19 & 20 where the Salem Armory will be transformed into a showcasefor quilters. This is a new location that provides free parking and easyaccess. This event is sponsored by the Mid-Valley Quilt Guild and willhighlight the work of local and regional quiltersQuilts and quilted items will be on display in a variety of categoriesincluding traditional, modern and art quilts. There will also be a JuniorCategory. Quilts may be entered for viewing only or to be judged. Quiltswill be professionally judged and receive special ribbons for First,Second and Third place in each category.The public will vote for their favorite quilts focused on the quilt showtheme, Fabracadabra The Magic of Quilting. These challenge quilts will be the focus of one of our Viewers’ Choice award.Interested in entering this modern quilt challenge? More specific information about the Modern Mini Quilt Challenge and entryform is available belowEach day there will also be a special Quilt of Valor presentation. The organization’s mission statement is “to cover all thoseservice members and veterans wounded physically or psychologically with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.The MVQG show will include vendors from across the region offering fabrics, patterns, kits, and quilting resources. This is agreat opportunity to see them and their goods in person. Also, be sure not to miss the MVQG Boutique. The Boutique willinclude a silent auction area and new this year, a Basket Walk. Each attendee will receive a raffle ticket for the Basket Walk.A variety of baskets will be available chuck full of fun sewing items and others featuring local food, floral and fun!
