Antillean Adventist UniversityHistoryAntillean Adventist University is a co-educational institution that offers 3 graduate level programs, 25Bachelor level programs (BA/BS), 5 associate level programs (AA/AS) and two certifications at a level higherthan a bachelor degree. The Institution belongs to the educational system of the Seventh-day Adventist Churchand forms a part of a consortium composed of 13 universities in Latin America and the Caribbean, and of 101sister institutions around the world. It is located on roughly 275 acres of land on the outskirts of the city ofMayagüez, Puerto Rico.The University was established in Mayagüez in 1961, as a result of the reunification of university programscoordinated by the Antillean Union (with headquarters in Cuba) in order to develop new educationalopportunities for the youth of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. In Puerto Rico offeringuniversity courses represented progress, after the original establishment of the Puerto Rican Adventist Collegeof Aibonito in 1920, and the development of an extensive system of primary and secondary schools on theIsland.The Institution received its first license to operate in 1970 by the Council of Higher Education of PuertoRico and its accreditation in 1978 by the Middle States Commission of Higher Education. It is currently inthe educational district of the Puerto Rican Union of Seventh-day Adventists (with central office in Mayagüez,PR), and the Interamerican Division (with headquarters in Miami, FL, USA).
