Exceptwhen changing their programs of study, students may follow requirements of the Catalogunder which they enter the College for a period of four years. If they have not completed theirprograms of study, they must change to the current Catalog. Exceptions must be approved bythe Vice President/Dean of Student and Administrative Services. When students change

their programs of study, they must change to the Catalog that is current at the time of thechange.Nondiscrimination policyIt is the policy of the Alabama Community College System, including all postsecondarycommunity and technical colleges under the control of the Alabama Community CollegeSystem Board of Trustees, that no person, on the basis of any impermissible criterion orcharacteristic including, without limitation, race, color, national origin, religion, marital status,disability, sex, age or any other protected class as defined by Federal and State law, shall beexcluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discriminationunder any program, activity or employment.Chattahoochee Valley Community College is committed to this policy of nondiscriminationand complies with nondiscrimination regulations under Title VI and Title VII of the Civil RightsAct of 1964; Title IX Education Amendments of 1972; Sections 503 and 504, Rehabilitation Actof 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as well as all other applicable laws andregulations.Title IX regulations specifically prohibit discrimination based on pregnancy or recovery fromany pregnancy related medical condition. The college approaches students who are pregnant thesame as it does students who have temporary medical conditions. Faculty acknowledge absencescaused by a medical condition, such as childbirth or complications due to pregnancy, as excusedabsences. I will discourage such prejudice by others at every opportunity.I will treat all people with dignity and respect.I will strive daily to honor this pledge, knowing that the world will be a better place becauseof my effort.— Adapted from the Birmingham Pledge and the Universal Declaration of Human RightsDrug-free workplace policyIn compliance with the drug-free workplace requirements of Public Law 100-690 forrecipients of federal contracts and grants, the following policy is in effect for CVCC.1. The unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession or use of a controlledsubstance is prohibited by CVCC on any property owned, leased or controlled by oron behalf of CVCC. A “controlled substance” shall include any substance defined as acontrolled substance in Section 102 of the Federal Controlled Substance Act (21 U.S.Code of Alabama, Section 20-2-1, et seq.).2. CVCC has and shall maintain a drug-free awareness program to inform employeesabout:a. the dangers of drug abuse in the workplace;b. CVCC’s policy of maintaining a drug-free workplace;c. any available drug counseling, rehabilitation and employee assistance program; andd. the penalties that may be imposed upon employees for drug abuse violations.3. All employees of CVCC shall comply with paragraph 1 above.4. Any employee who is convicted by any federal or state court of an offense thatconstitutes a violation of paragraph 1 above shall notify the President of CVCC inwriting of said conviction within five (5) days after the conviction occurs. Conviction,as defined in P.L. 100-690, shall mean “a finding of guilt (including a plea of nolocontendere) or imposition of sentence, or both.” Failure to notify the President ofCVCC of such a conviction shall be considered insubordination as well as a violation ofthis policy.5. In the event of a report of a conviction pursuant to paragraph 4 above where theemployee is working in a project or a program funded through a Federal contract orgrant, CVCC shall notify in writing within ten (10) days any Federal agency or agenciesto whom such notification by CVCC is required under P.L. 100-690.6. In the event an employee violates paragraph 1 above or receives a conviction asdescribed in paragraph 4 above, the respective employee shall be subject to appropriatedisciplinary action which may include, but is not limited to, termination of employment.CVCC shall also reserve the right to require said employee, as a condition of continuedemployment, to satisfactorily complete a drug treatment or rehabilitation program of areasonable duration and nature.7. CVCC shall make a good faith effort to ensure that paragraphs 1-6 above are followed.8. Each employee of CVCC shall receive a copy of the CVCC Drug-Free Workplace Policy,and after reading it, shall sign a statement acknowledging having read and received acopy of this policy. iii
