Note: While offering the CMEcredit hours noted above, activities are not intended to provide extensive training or certificationfor exam performance or interpretation.NEEDS STATEMENT:The planning committee has determined a need for the following educational activity based onrequests from the medical community, expanded utilization of ultrasound, and lab accreditationrequirements.COURSE OBJECTIVES:At the completion of the program the participant should be able to:1. Increase knowledge and competence for successful ultrasound registry examination completion.2. Outline routine scan protocols & measurements for performing transabdominal and endovaginal GYNscanning.3. State the normal and abnormal imaging characteristics of the ovaries and uterus anddifferentiate commonly seen pathology seen in premenarchal, postmenarchal, and postmenopausal patients.4. Outline first trimester normal reproductive physiology and identify normal anatomy.5. List first trimester complications and associated ultrasound findings.6. Perform 2nd and 3rd trimester measurement techniques7. Identify normal and abnormal fetal anatomy in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters in each of the fetalbody systems8. State coexisting disorders affecting pregnancy9. Cite the sonographer role in procedures10. Identify areas of weakness that may require further study for successful registry examinationcompletion.While offering CME credits this activity is not intended to provide extensive training orcertification for performing or interpreting ultrasound examinations. We recommend workingunder supervised conditions until an accepted level of proficiency has been achieved.No financial commercial support or educational grants were received for this activity and no “inkind” commercial support is provided as no “hands-on” instruction is performed.
