GREEN & THRIFTYCLEANING PRODUCTS10 MAGIC INGREDIENTS SHOPPING LIST1 white vinegar2 lemon or lemon juice3 olive oil4 liquid dishwashing soap5 borax6 baking soda7 salt8 ivory bar soap9 washing soda10 essential oilsBATHROOM CLEANERFLOOR CLEANER3/4 cup baking sodajuice from 1/2 a lemon (about 1/4 cup)3 tablespoons salt3 tablespoons liquid dishwashing soap1/2 cup vinegar10 drops essential oil (optional)1 cup vinegar1/2 cup baking soda8-10 cups hot water1 tablespoon borax1tablespoon washing soda30 drops essential oil (optional)Mix all ingredients together in a medium bowl to make a paste; usescrub brush or sponge to apply to tub, shower walls, & sinks. Be sureto test a small area to make sure paste does not scuff tub surface;if so, eliminate the salt from the mixture! Rinse well with water and awet rag, then dry with a clean rag or old towel.Mix vinegar & baking soda together in bucket; add hot water,Borax, washing soda, & essential oil and mix until all powder isdissolved. Use mop or sponge to wipe down floor; wipe dry withclean dry towel.TOILET BOWL CLEANER1 cup baking soda1 cup vinegar10 drops essential oil (optional)Turn off flow valve to toilet & flush 1 or 2 times until water is drained.Pour in baking soda, then slowly pour in vinegar, being sure to getvinegar to cover as much of the bowl surface as possible, thenadd essential oil. The baking soda will react with the vinegar—this isnormal! Use your toilet brush to scrub surface & remove any rings orstains. Turn water back on and flush.FURNITURE POLISH3/4 cup olive oiljuice from 1/4 a lemon1 tablespoon vinegar3-4 drops lemon essential oil (optional)Dampen rag & squeeze out excess water. Dip damp rag intofurniture polish, the wipe on surface of furniture. Buff off with an olddry towel. Can also be used to polish stainless steel!GLASS CLEANER1 1/2 cups vinegar1 1/2 cups water5-10 drops essential oil (optional)Mix vinegar, water & essential oil together in spray bottle. Spray onglass & use squeegee, crumpled newspaper (Tip: use newspapersthat are at least 2 weeks old to avoid black fingers!), or a lint-freerag to get a streak-free shine. Also works well to shine chrome andcounter tops after you’ve disinfected them.ALL-PURPOSE CLEANER1 tablespoon borax1 tablespoon washing soda1 teaspoon dishwashing soap1 cup vinegar4 cups hot water25-30 drops essential oil (optional)Whisk all ingredients together well in large bowl, then pour intospray bottle. Spay on, then wipe surface clean with a damp cloth.Can be used to clean and disinfect almost any surface!STAINLESS STEEL CLEANER2 tablespoons baking soda1/2 cup vinegar2 cups warm waterMix ingredients in a spray bottle. Mixture will foam up; when it stopsbubbling, put on cap and spray stainless steel surface, then wipeclean & dry with lint-free rag. To add extra shine, use furniture polishabove.LAUNDRY DETERGENT1 bar ivory soap1 cup borax1 cup washing powderThis homemade laundry detergent is so cheap and easy to makethat you will kick yourself for not trying it until now. Place ivorysoap in a large microwave safe bowl. Heat in microwave for 2minutes, until soap turns to foam. Quickly stir foam until it becomessmall soap chips, then mix well with borax and washing powder.Allow to cool completely, then store in airtight container. Use 1-2tablespoons per load. (Tip: This detergent works best in warm or hotwater; for cold water washing you may want to first dissolve in 1/4 cof hot water.)DISHWASHER DETERGENT1 cup baking soda1 cup borax1/2 cup saltvinegar (add to rinse compartment!)Mix first 3 ingredients well & store in airtight container.
