Comments for ContemplationAmazing GraceLuke 15:1– 321. It never ceases to amaze me, truly, how special it is when you receive something or someone back, that you had really given up for . There is no other rejoicing quite like it.2. Jesus is trying to tell the religious types that these people who are lost, the tax collectors andsinners, are supposed to be found and because they are special to God, just as alost sheep is special to a caring shepherd, and a lost coin is special to the person who lost it.3. While Jesus did not speak the word “grace” frequently, he taught about, and lived with graceconstantly, and today’s parables are a good example. Grace has been defined as God’s unmeritedfavor, undeserved love, and gift to humanity.4. The problem is in thinking that we can make ourselves into good people, and that we can therebydeserve and secure our own . It cannot be done.5. But then we try to earn or to deserve that help from God, instead of simply praying, “Lord, havemercy on me, a sinner.” So we need to give God credit for what God does, and what God does isto seek us out, no matter how lost and we may be.6. “But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with he ran andput his arms around him and kissed him.”Printing provided by The Tom Fowler GroupPlease recycle.41200 South CollinsArlington, Texas 76010www.FirstPresTexas.org817-274-8286
