The paper is entitled “ASEMANTIC ANALYSIS ON ABDULLAH YUSUF ALI’STRANSLATION OF SURAH AL-FATIHAH”, which is submittedto the English Education Department of Education and TeachingScience of UIN Walisongo Semarang as a partial fulfillment of therequirements for Islamic Scholar Degree in English Education.This thesis is supposed to give new insight in understanding forall Moslems the meaning of surah al-Fatihah. Besides, it is supposedto give new insight in understanding deeply about the aspects ofsemantic especially in literal meaning, and also deixis for the Englishdepartment students. Since semantic is the most important subject tounderstanding any kinds of English writing. So, the researcher tries togive good contributions for the Moslems, English DepartmentStudents (EDS), and also for the next researcher to understand deeplyabout the aspects of semantic especially literal and deixis.Furthermore, the researcher takes Abdullah Yusuf Ali’s translation tobe analyzed, because, he is the one of the most famous translator inthe world who comes from Bombay.The accomplishment of my bachelors’ degree is the mostrewarding achievement in my life. All supports and helps from manypeople during the time of conducting and reporting the research isii

ABSTRACTTitle:Researcher :NIM:A Semantic Analysis On Abdullah Yusuf Ali’sTranslation of Surah Al-FatihahNur Hidayati123411087This paper deals with the analysis of meaning relation inAbdullah Yusuf Ali’s Translation of surah Al-Fatihah of the HolyKoran. While studying the data, thematic approach semantics analysiswould be employed. The steps included selecting and collecting everywords which had related in the meaning of surah Al-Fatihah.Afterwards, according to analyze them, with these steps a wholeframework from analyzis would be refealed. In addition, they were:homonym, polysemy, synonym, Antonym, hyphonym, denotation,connotation, homophon, and ambiguity. In otherhand, The researcherfocused on the literal meaning and the deixises. After that, theresearcher used qualitative research approaches. This research had theobjective to find out the literal meaning and deixis from AbdullahYusuf Ali’s Translation of Surah Al-Fatihah. By this way, it willcontribute to make easier in learning and understanding of semanticusing Holy Koran. Moreover, the aims of this research was toinvestigate surah al-Fatihah semantically which was planned to givethe contribution to the body of knowledge in both theoretical andpractical aspect mainly. Theoretically, was attended to enrich otherresearch in the field of semantic especially about literal meaning anddeictic which were specified on various surah in holy Qur’an.Practically, the result of this study could be used for deeperunderstanding of surah al-Fatihah and it would be useful for daily lifefor Moslems to pray to Allah, because surah al-Fatihah is one of thefoundations of prayer. This paper deals with the qualitative researchwhich is content analysis of semantic meaning in Abdullah YusufAli’s translation of surah al-Fatihah of the holy Qur’an.Keywords: Holy Koran, Al-Fatihah, Semantic, literal meaning,deixisesviii
