Over time, the inner walls of theair sacs weaken and rupture creating larger air spaces instead of many small ones. This reduces the surface area of the lungs and, in turn, the amount of oxygen that reaches your bloodstream. COPD is characterized by chronic cough, excess sputum production, chest tightness, and shortness of breath during physical activity. It can be cured naturally with the addition of herbs in diet herbs and also by having ahealthy lifestyle with some aerobic exercises. Herbal Medicine as an adjunct therapy is uncertain to improve the pulmonary function butmay improve clinical symptoms and quality of life for COPD patients [3].2. Solanum NiguramSolanum Niguram popularly called as Manathakkali in Tamil and it is a traditional accompaniment in south Indian cuisine, thisherb has anti-oxidant properties. The berries of this herb used as a medicine in curing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and it is alsofilled with anti-oxidant properties. The steroidal saponins of Solanum Niguram berries determines that this herb has an anti-inflammatoryactivity [4], if it is consumed with regular diet as an accompaniment can give better results in curing pulmonary disease like asthma, dueto its anti-inflammatory properties of Solanum Niguram. The regular intake of this herb and berries with food, in addition of ginger, garlicand turmeric will cure the COPD completely. In South Indian foods the leafs are used in making accompaniments and the seeds used inmaking curry.Figure 1. Nigella sativaNigella sativa herb has medicinal values in curing copd and it is also healing many diseases across the world, it is considered as a goodmedicine for curing asthma in various traditional practices like Unani, Ayurveda and Siddha. The oil extracted from these seeds can beadded with food preparation and it has been used widely in treating of different diseases and ailments. Thymus VulgarisThe Thyme is popular herb used in Italian cuisine and this herb got its values in culinary and medicinal purpose from long time for itstraditional usage, also appreciated for its unique flavor in traditional French cuisine’s culinary preparation and the oil extracted from thymehas a good source of antioxidants and that assist in healing many diseases. The juice of this herb contain a spasmolytic effect on isolatedtrachea, in order to develop the mucociliary clearance activity of human lungs airways with a tiny part of this effect is mediated with betareceptors [5]. The thyme extract stops and decrease the inflation by the presence of endothelin this receptor antagonist developed as acompetitive inhibitor depends on the thyme concentrate. The dominant compound present extract of thyme is thymol, Even though thymolis not actively present in curing diseases like asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) the endothelin present in thymeextract assist in healing these diseases.Figure 4. Thymus Vulgaris.6. Ginseng (Panax Ginseng)The exceptional standard of this Asian herb ginseng gives good relief from COPD symptoms. People consuming ginseng got significantdevelopments in breathing and the capability to complete exercise, In relation with other treatments received by people who suffered withCOPD symptoms cannot able to accomplish their tasks [6]. The ginseng contains ginsenosides available in a smaller quantity of the extract, which aids in providing cure from COPD. The study carried out in treating COPD and other lung related functions shows the ginsengbased herbal treatment is effective in reducing the symptoms of COPD [7]. Consumption of ginseng in regular dosage has not onlyincreased the capacity for doing exercises but also reflected in maximum consumption of oxygen while breathing, due to the elevatedVO2max, as well as the reduction in blood lactate [8]. Ginseng transform the energy production in favor of aerobic metabolism thatimproves airflow both in major airways of lungs [9].Figure 5. In addition because of curcumin is loaded with reasonable antibacterial, antiinflammatory, antiviral and antioxidant properties, it gives relief from breathing problems, wheezing, chronic cough and other lungs relateddiseases [12].Figure 6. Curcuma Longa.8. ConclusionThe natural compounds present in herbs are able to control and reduce the inflammation in respiratory tracts of lungs and widen the airwaysfor the required intake of oxygen. The compound present in ginseng (ginsenosides) can cure COPD, It is observed that this plays a majorrole in curing the patients suffering from COPD, simultaneously herbs like curcuma longa contains curcumin when added in the diet canreduce the respiratory inflammation due to its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and the efficacy of herbs like SolanumNiguram , Solanum Trilobatum, Nigella sativa and Thymus Vulgaris also have the properties which control the COPD symptoms likeclearing respiratory tracts and infections like cold and cough. These herbs comprised with properties like, antibacterial, antiviral, antiinflammatory and antioxidants which helps in curing COPD.
