The next phase of this project will continue to address the needfor roof replacement at the Administration (A), West Academic Cluster (WAC), T4 and T6buildings, whose roofs were installed in the early 1970s. The roof replacement effort on campuswill eventually provide a leak-free environment and ensure the internal integrity of facilities aswell as remove the threat of building closings due to environmental hazards.Total Project Cost 20,000Prior Funding Received 9,000Five-Year Request 11,000Funds to CompleteAnticipated Completion: 0August 2018(B) Pool Structural RehabThis project will correct the structural and architectural damage caused by 35 years of heavyuse. It will demolish the tile deck and interior pool surfaces (walls and floor), install new tile andnew waterproof membrane and repair or replace damaged rebar. In addition, while the poolequipment has been maintained, it is reaching the end of its useful life. The filter system, valves, piping, pumps, pool heater and controls are original equipment that will be replaced. Thechemical-feed systems are also in need of replacement and upgrade.Total Project Cost 4,000Prior Funding Received 1,000Five-Year Request 3,000Funds to CompleteAnticipated Completion:June 2017Note: (B) Major Bonded Project, (R) Minor Rehabilitation ProjectA Acquisition, D Design, C Construction, E Equipment 0

Kingsborough Community College(B) HVAC Upgrades Arts & Sciences CenterFrequent breakdowns of the air-handling units on the roof of the Arts & Sciences Center haveforced specialized labs and equipment to be shut down. To avoid future disruption of classes ortaking the spaces off-line, the air handlers need to be replaced. The new system will create alightweight enclosure that will protect the air handlers and equipment from the elements andkeep them securely in place.Total Project Cost 6,575Prior Funding Received 2,575Five-Year Request 4,000Funds to CompleteAnticipated Completion: 0December 2018(B) Facade Rehab Campus-WideThis project will make repairs and/or replace sections of exterior brick walls where structuralsteel has rusted, tie backs have failed or are non-existent, and brick work has shifted away fromthe building. It will also extend the useful life of the buildings by preventing further damage tothe facade masonry. Winter freeze/thaw cycles cause havoc to campus facilities that are alreadysubject to water penetration and water accumulation due to clogged weep holes and missingbrickwork joints.Total Project Cost 6,000Prior Funding Received 0Five-Year Request 6,000Funds to CompleteAnticipated Completion: 0June 2017(B) Marina ReconstructionThis project will reconstruct the college's marina that was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy in2012. The main pier and service connections, including water, electric andtelecommunications, will be replaced. ADA-compliant access to the dock from the shore will beinstalled. The boat travel-lift will be relocated further west, where it will be better protectedfrom future storms and will not silt up from future storms and wave action. A newwave-attenuator will be constructed at the eastern end of the marina to help reduce the force ofwave action on the marina. This facility is pivotal to the college's academic mission since itprovides hands-on training space to students in the Maritime Technology program and housesthe vessels that are used for training and teaching on water.Anticipated Completion: December 2016(B) Library Windows and Skylight ReplacementThis project will replace all 1,600 original windows and skylights at Kingsborough's eight-storylibrary building. The windows are original to the 1976 construction (now nearly 40 years old)and pre-date the NYS Energy Code. Many operable windows provided for offices have defectiveand outdated opening mechanisms that are impossible to maintain or replace. At severallocations, gaskets have failed, and the college has been forced to seal these windows with ducttape to prevent rainwater and air from infiltrating into the interior office spaces. The newwindows will be double-glazed, insulated and solar tinted with rust-proof frames that canendure the harsh environmental conditions of the campus, which is exposed to salt water sprayfrom Jamaica Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.Anticipated Completion: March 2018Note: (B) Major Bonded Project, (R) Minor Rehabilitation ProjectA Acquisition, D Design, C Construction, E EquipmentTotal Project Cost 5,000Prior Funding Received 0Five-Year Request 5,000Funds to Complete 0Total Project Cost 6,000Prior Funding Received 0Five-Year Request 6,000Funds to Complete 0

Kingsborough Community CollegeCity Reso-A Requests FY 2016 (City Council and Borough Presidents)In priority order / costs in thousandsAdditional Roof ReplacementPhase:CAdditional funding is requested to continue the college's campus-wide roof replacementprogram that is systematically addressing roofs of all campus buildings to provide a leak-free,more energy efficient environment. Recently the college has been required to close off areas ofthese buildings because of the severity of roof leaks and the resultant consequences. As theseconditions worsen, more and more of these buildings will have to be taken off-line. This cityrequest is a subset of the larger project in the Five-Year Request.Anticipated Completion:Phase:DCEThis project will reconstruct the college's marina that was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy. Themain pier and service connections, including water, electric and telecommunications, will bereplaced and ADA-compliant access provided. The boat travel-lift will be moved to a moresecure location. A wave-attenuator will be constructed to reduce the force of wave action. Thisfacility is pivotal to the college's academic mission because it provides hands-on training for theMaritime Technology program and houses the vessels used for instruction. FEMA funding isbeing sought for these upgrades, but it is not anticipated to cover the full need.Phase:CThis project will correct the pool damage caused by years of heavy use. It will demolish the tiledeck, wall and floor, install new tiles and waterproof membrane and replace damaged structuralmembers.
