Combined with small clearances between the helical blade and the vessel wall,this results in high heat transfer to the product whilepreventing agglomerates from forming or depositsfrom building up. The shear forces arising are minimalwith this kind of mixing as the circumferential speed ofthe helical mixer is low. The variable speed drive allowsmaximum flexibility and optimizes the mixing processfor different materials.VACUUM CONTACT AND FINAL DRYINGThe design of the ANDRITZ Gouda helix dryer has allthe advantages of vacuum contact drying, such as lowthermal load in the product, high thermal efficiency,safe processing of explosive substances, and simplesolvent recovery. When drying down to the ppm (partsper million) range, a carrier gas can be introducedoptionally through a special deodorizing nozzle directlyabove the product discharge.MAXIMUM PRODUCT DISCHARGEA central outlet in the lowest section in combinationwith a steep vessel wall ensures almost completeproduct discharge by gravity while the mixer is running.In addition, the specially shaped helical blade isdesigned for minimum product retention throughoutthe agitator.NO PRODUCT CONTAMINATIONThe shaft seal (lip sealing or mechanical sealing) islocated outside the product area, preventing anycross-contamination or extreme wear. The drive andbearing assemblies are completely separated from theprocess area. This allows easy maintenance withouthaving to enter the vessel. The most importantbenefit of using a smaller, mobile version of theANDRITZ Gouda helix dryer is the flexible processset-up. The mobile design is available for fork-lifttransport or for manual transportation on wheels. Ifrequired by your plant layout (i.e. for laboratory orpilot-plant operation), the dryer can be used as atransport vessel. As such, filling, drying, discharging,and cleaning can be performed at different locations.In addition, the use of special containment dockingsystems prevents any contamination of the product orthe environment. A typical process set-up is as follows:The mobile ANDRITZ Gouda helix dryer is connecteddirectly to the solids discharge of a peeler centrifuge.After charging the dryer, the closed vessel is movedon wheels or via fork-lift truck from the centrifuge to acentral drying station. Here, the dryer is docked to thedrive unit, the vacuum skid, and the heating/coolingunit.The whole process is safe, sterile and extremelyflexible. Mobile dryers are available up to a usefulvolume of 150 liters. As an option, we supply the coverof mobile units with a hinge that allows the lid to openfully.
