We believe in pushing your teammates to be better,picking them up when they are down, and always believing inyourself. Character is revealed in times of adversity and baseballprovides that adversity. By putting these young baseball playersin extremely competitive situations, we help them develop theircharacter which will benefit them not only in baseball, but in life.

IONA PREP BASEBALL STANDARDS-Have fun! Always have a positive attitude on the field-Show respect to teammates, opponents and umpires-Sportsmanship at all times-No complaining and no criticizing. Earn the respect ofyour team.-Work on your weaknesses- Use practice to PRACTICE-Work hard to improve yourself without having to beforced-Pride in everything that we do on the baseball field.(Practice, Field Work & Games)-Take care of team equipment-Effort. It doesn’t take any ability to HUSTLE-Being on time. If you are 5 minutes early, you are late.Be on time whenever time is involved-Supporting teammates-Support your coaches & the program. Look to helpyounger players.-Buy into your role on this team. That doesn’t mean youaccept it but, understand it.-Look to play more than at present. If not, why are youplaying?-Look to play in College-Make the CHSAA playoffs

Expectations of Parents1.2.3.4.5.Be positive with your son. Let them know that they are accomplishingsomething by being part of the teamDo not offer excuses to them if they are not playing. Encourage them towork hard and do their bestEncourage student-athletes to follow the rules of the team and Iona Prep.Remember at a competition you, the parent, represent your school, yourson’s team and your son. Please be a positive role model.Remember that the coach is involved because he/she is sincerely fond ofworking with your son and helping him succeed. All coaches havedifferent ways of dealing with people and situations, please respect that.SPECTATOR CONDUCTStudents are reminded that being an “Iona Man” requires appropriate behavior atall athletic events. Students and parents should cheer for Iona Preparatory School,never root against, or mock opponents, and be considerate of opposing players,fans, coaches and officials. The behavior of opposing fans should never be used asan excuse for rude or obnoxious behavior. All rules of conduct apply at athleticevents on or off campus. Unacceptable sportsmanship or behavior will result inremoval from the athletic event and a referral to the Dean of Students.The consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited at all Iona Preparatory Schoolathletic events conducted on or off school premises. Bringing alcoholic beverages toany sporting event is strictly prohibited. This applies to regular season as well asany playoff or championship competition wherever and whenever an Iona Prepteam is a participant. Any violators will be ejected from competition. Further, thestudent athlete of any parent who violates this policy will be immediatelysuspended from further participation in that sport.

Parent/Coach CommunicationIt is important to understand that there may be times when things do not gothe way your son envisioned. This is an opportunity for your son to talk withtheir respective Head coach and discuss the situation. When your sonhandles the problem, it becomes part of the learning and maturationprocess. There may be situations that require conversation between thecoach and the parent. It is important that both parties have a clearunderstanding of the other’s position.1. Parent/Guardian speaks directly to the Head Coach to discuss concern.2. If the concern is not resolved, call the Athletic Director to arrange aconference.3. Please do not attempt to confront a coach before or after a contest orpractice. These can be emotional times for both parent and coach.Meetings of this nature do not promote resolution.4. 24 hour Rule.Training RoomFirst report injury to Head Coach; then he will send you to the AthleticTrainerOur Athletic Trainer will recommend doctors for various injuries. Pleasecheck to see if you are covered under that doctor’s insurance.Practice1. Practice is mandatory. If you will be late or need to miss practice, youmust obtain prior approval from the Coach, and show a valid cause.2. Detention is not a valid cause, and will not be tolerated.3. Commitment to yourself, and the team, is expected.4. Be dressed, on the field and ready to practice 15 minutes prior to thescheduled practice time. Early is on time, On time is late, and late isunacceptable
