SECTION 8: W IFI TROUBLESHOOTINGI CAN’T CONNECT TO MY WIFI NETWORKCAUSESOLUTIONInsufficient securityWith so many home devices now connected tosettings on your WiFi router the Internet, we want to make sure our Signaturethermostats are connected to secured networksso that hackers cannot gain control of devices inthe home. There are two main types of encryptionor protection available through wireless routers;WEP and WPA. WEP is the original form of wirelesssecurity which offers very minimal security.Hackers can very easily break into your wirelessnetwork if your router is setup with WEP encryption. It was replaced with WPA encryption in 1999 andWPA2 in 2006. WPA is a security protocol thatmakes it much more difficult to break into thenetworks. The Signature thermostat currentlysupports WPA and WPA2 encryption only.nVent NUHEAT is releasing a version of theSignature that will support WEP in the comingmonths. If your router was manufactured after2003, you should be able to change the setting fromWEP to WPA tml). Without a WiFiconnection, the Signature thermostat can stillcontrol your floor heating system. nVent NUHEATrecommends the best course of action is toupgrade your security settings to properly protectyour network from hackers. If that is not anoption, please contact nVent NUHEAT at1.800.778.WARM(9276).Too many wireless devicesconnected to your network20 nVent.comSome WiFi routers have a limit on the number ofwireless devices that can connect to the Internet. To test if this is your issue, shut down one of theWiFi enabled devices in your home. Once that deviceis completely shut down, try again to connect to thenetwork with the Signature thermostat. If theSignature thermostat successfully connects, consult the documentation for your access point orcontact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to findout if you can increase the number of simultaneousconnections to your WiFi network.

SECTION 8: W IFI TROUBLESHOOTINGI CAN’T CONNECT TO MY WIFI NETWORKCAUSESOLUTIONWiFi router requires arestart/rebootThe problem might be with your router (even if yourother wireless devices are still connected). A simplerestart of the router will usually resolve these typesof issues. While most routers just need to beunplugged and plugged back into their powersource to restart them, you should refer to yourrouter’s documentation for specific instructions.WiFi router firmware needsto be updatedContact your ISP or the router manufacturer forinstructions on how to updated the firmware.Presence of wirelessinterferenceTry turning off other wireless devices (Bluetooth,WiFi, wireless phones/cameras) that may causeinterference then test the Signature thermostat’snetwork connection.Signature thermostatneeds a factory resetRestart your Signature thermostat. To restart theSignature thermostat, go to Settings Factory Resetand select Reset. Once your Signature thermostathas restarted, go to Settings WiFi Settings to try toconnect again.nVent.com 21
