Features and benefitsHigh availability, high performanceThe EPS 7000 is the facility manager’s top uninterruptiblepower supply (UPS) choice with full front access and allcritical serviceable components reachable within minutes, not hours. These UPS modules allow IT and facilitiesmanagers to respond to increasing demands placed onpower infrastructure in growing facilities by offering N 1capabilities. The EPS 7000 was the first in the industry toincorporate a 100-percent-rated static switch on outputof UPS inverter with no mechanical contactors, which canage and weaken during UPS operation. Energy efficiencyis a key feature for the EPS 7000 with up to 94 percentsystem efficiency at full load. EPS 7000 provides pureflexibility, with auxiliary equipment such as parallelinggear, external maintenance bypass, critical bussynchronization, bottom entry cabinets, and distributionto meet specific site configuration while maximizingefficiency and output power quality.EPS 7000Availability Higher power density Low kVAR filter Redundant parallel logic Integrated output isolation transformerManageability Adaptable configurations Advanced battery management Remote power monitoring Built-in modbusServiceability Front‑access design Modular rectifier and inverter subassembly Intuitive standard graphical displayOptions Input galvanic isolation Battery cabinet Bypass cabinet Bottom entry cabinetEconomy Low installation costs Reduced footprint Low CapEx solutionSimplified installation Top entry standard Comprehensive installation proceduresApprovals UL1778 CULTypical applications Data center Industrial Healthcare Petrochemical UtilitySupport and service Extended warranty plans Worldwide field service organization Available project management servicesschneider-electric.com 3

EPS 7000 featuresDigital power quality inverterUsing a unique technology called Digital Power Quality Management, the invertermaintains precision voltage regulation under all operating conditions. The key tothe superior performance lies in the speed and resolution of the waveform, which isgenerated by up to eight pulses per millisecond, allowing the waveform to be tightlycontrolled. The waveform is constantly compared to a real‑time reference sine wave.If the sine wave deviates from the reference sine wave, the gain of the inverter outputis adjusted, creating a “correction” pulse maintaining a “power quality envelope”that is /-1 percent of a perfect sine wave. A free-switching frequency acceleratesduring periods of major variations for better regulation. By optimizing the switchingfrequency, the EPS 7000 is also able to minimize switching losses and maintain ahigh efficiency level even at lower loads.Digital power quality logicDigitalwave formcorrectionFeedbackon waveform qualityReal-time referencesine waveAnother benefit of the high-resolution control topology is that harmonic distortionreflected from the loads is practically eliminated.UPS input filter technologyThe technology used to maintain the input power factor and avoid leading powerfactor (PF) loads is an important consideration. Many other large UPS modules relyon disengaging the input filter capacitors with a contactor at lower loads wherethe UPS risks becoming a leading PF load. Switching capacitors will create largenotches and disturbances on the utility bus. Furthermore, the system is relying on amechanical contactor. Our system is based strictly on a solid state inductor assemblybalancing the effect of the capacitors — a safe and reliable technology.Free-frequencyswitchingQuality bandwith variations 1%Output voltage curveUp to 8 commutationsper millisecondChargerInput filter4 schneider-electric.com

EPS 7000 featuresSolid state disc SCR transfer switchEPS 7000 uses large hockey puck silicon-controlled rectifiers (SCRs) in its static bypass. The ability to clear faults safely is dictated by the capacity of the static bypass switch.Because these SCRs can tolerate quick fault currents over 20 times that of the UPS rating, they can safely use the fault‑clearing power of the utility to clear the fault without anydamage to the UPS.Many other UPS modules typically use lower-current brick-type SCRs on their static switchesthat are only momentary rated and rely on an overlap contactor to carry the current.Because fault current rises so quickly, it can often exceed the rating of these momentarySCRs before the contactor has a chance to engage. The fault clearing capability of the UPSis regulated by capacity of the static bypass switch. The EPS 7000 uses a robust disc SCRstatic bypass switch that is able to clear instantaneous fault current over 20 times the nominalrating of the UPS. The EPS 7000 bypass is 100 percent continuous duty rated, making itmore reliable than systems that pair smaller, momentary bypass switches.Fault tolerantOutput faults are common events on any UPS system. Even a small downstream devicefault may take four or five cycles before a distribution circuit breaker opens. This meansthat the UPS module must be capable of clearing the fault. Insulated-gate bipolartransistors (IGBTs) used in the inverters simply are not designed to sustain faults. The keyto managing faults is to firstly protect the inverter by current limiting it from fault conditions— and then safely make a seamless transfer to utility via the static bypass switch. Theresult is that the load will stay protected and the UPS will remain intact.Static switchMomentary switchStatic switchContinuous duty switchNew standard graphical user interfaceThe advanced graphical interface for the EPS 7000 UPSsystem features a 12-inch high-contrast TFT LCD touchscreen. Delivering features including animated mimicdiagrams, alarm event logs, trending, component levelstatus, and more, the interface presents UPS statusinformation in an easy-to-read graphical format. Guidedby a clear menu, users can navigate through all screensto explore system level information on multimodulesystems drilling right down to module and componentlevel information. Operator procedures simplify the use ofthe UPS, contributing to an overall increase in reliability bymitigating user errors.schneider-electric.com 5

Specific technical advantagesBattery managementEnergy efficient for significant cost savingsBatteries represent a significant investment inany UPS system — often half the cost. They also havethe highest risk of failure of any component. TheEPS 7000’s battery management system performs twocritical functions. First, it collects all the relevant inputsto display the most accurate time remaining. Then, byincorporating key details such as battery temperature, the EPS 7000 rectifier continually optimizes the chargevoltage to maximize battery life. The energy efficiency of the EPS 7000 is extremely high, especially at lower loads where redundant UPS modulesoperate. The result is often energy cost savings thatusually exceed the cost of the UPS module in as little asthree to five years compared to leading brands.Full output voltage regulationover entire range of the battery Core efficiency up to 94 percent High efficiency maintained over lowerload levels where most UPS modules operate Potential energy cost savings that can equalthe value of the UPS in as little as a few years100%The EPS 7000 uses a 480 V DC bus. As a result of theDC bus closely matching the AC output voltage, the UPSis able to maintain the output voltage regulation over thewhole operating range of the battery. Some UPS modulesthat use lower DC buses (using fewer batteries in series)may experience decaying output voltage as the batteryvoltage/DC bus drops during discharge. This means thatthe EPS 7000 UPS will be able to maintain perfect voltageregulation over the full range of the battery.93%Energysavings0%NonoptimizedIGBT UPS efficiency35/40%100%schneider-electric.com 7
