Our strenuousTuesday, Wednesday, Thursday night (5:30 pm – 10:30 pm) and Saturday (6:00 am – 5:00 pm) extendedformat schedule offers those employed full time an alternative to preparing or transitioning into a careeras a sworn law enforcement officer. Academies start every January with Module III. The academy is runin a paramilitary style, with students wearing uniforms and adhering to a high level of discipline and order.Students not complying with academy regulations are terminated from the program. Upon successfulcompletion of all three modules of the program, students receive 43.5 units of college credit.The Palomar College Police Academy has dual accreditation with the California Commission on PeaceOfficer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) and Western Association of Schools and Colleges (W.A.S.C.).Training is held at the Public Safety Training Center located at 182 Santar Place in San Marcos. Ourprogram is a Modular Format. The program is designed to meet the needs of those aspiring to be fulltime peace officers, as well as Level III, Level II, or Level I reserve peace officers. The modules do nothave to all be completed at one time. For example, one could complete Modules III and II, leave theprogram, and then return the next year to complete Module I. Also the modules do not need to becompleted at the same training facility. A recruit could complete Modules III and II at another facility andthen take Module I at Palomar College.The total cost of the entire yearlong program is approximately 5,000.00. All recruits will spendapproximately 2100 on required uniforms, gear and equipment. Module III fees, to include the tuitionand materials fees will cost approximately 750. The student is responsible for budgeting this amount asa minimum and ensuring payment for tuition costs, material fees, uniforms, use of firearms, EmergencyVehicle Operations Course (EVOC) fee, mandatory health and accident fees, Department of Justicefingerprint processing and parking permits. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Possession of a high school diploma or GED/Equivalency [GC 1031(E)]. Minimum of 18 years of age (NOTE: A very limited number of agencies consider applicants under21 years of age – it is strongly recommended to wait until at least age 20) [GC 1031(B)]. Ability to read, write and speak English consistent with the duties of a peace officer. Possess a valid California driver’s license. Active duty military may possess a valid out-of-statedriver’s license. No felony or misdemeanor convictions in any state or military court that would restrict possessionof a firearm [PC 29800/29805]. If not already registered as a student at Palomar College, complete a Palomar College studentapplication on-line (www.palomar.edu) and receive a student identification number. Submit a Basic Police Academy application with all supporting documentation by the deadline.2. TESTING PROCESS Applicants must participate in a Physical Agility Test (PAT) and written examination, whichwill be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018. Applicants must participate in an oral interview, which will be scheduled between October 2 andOctober 20, 2018.3. CONDITIONS FOR ACCEPTANCE INTO THE PROGRAMUpon acceptance into the program, students are required to: Complete a Live Scan fingerprint check through the California Department of Justice toobtain a criminal history clearance for firearms eligibility. This form will be providedupon acceptance into the program. Obtain a medical clearance by a qualified health provider. You will need to use thePalomar College Police Academy medical clearance form and have it signed by yourprovider prior to the first day of the Academy.This form will beprovided after acceptance into the program.
