The program of this one-day celebration isbuilt on the Committee's conviction that this Nation'sachievements and its concerns for children and youngpeople-indeedthe very formation and sponsorship of aChildren's Bureau-areunique manifestationsof thevalues we cherish above all others in a democratic society.The President of the United States will (}penthe Conference. Following this, an overview will be takenof problems and prospects half a century from today. Inthe afternoon, the Conference will review major developments in children's programs in the last half century, withparticular reference to their implications for the future.The luncheon birthday party will focus onchildren around the world. The evening dinner will highlight present-day developments, needs, and opportunitiesfor improved child care.
