Camping and Overnight PolicySuperintendent: Eli HoskeyThe campground is operated by the Tama County Livestock andFair Association.1.2.3.4.5.6.7.All those camping on the fairgrounds must have campingregistration form and fee into the Extension office by May 15 (latefee will be issued after this date). This is for all those with electricalhookups, tents, and non-electrical campers/trailers. The fee willreserve your assigned campsite that you occupied at the 2021 fair.Lot assignments and camper parking times will be mailed out thefirst week of July. Camper parking will be the Sunday before the fairstarts. Electricity for campers will not be available until the start ofthe fair (Monday at 2:00 p.m.)Who may stay overnight Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,Friday, or Saturday?a. 4-H and FFA members exhibiting at the fairb. 4-H and FFA Parents and children grade 3 and underc. Minor non 4-H and FFA youth, if chaperoned by a 4-H orFFA parentd. Extension staff members & approved leaderse. Night watchmen and other security officialsCurfew Policy: All persons, except night watchmen, staying onfairgrounds overnight must be on the fairgrounds by 11:30 p.m. andin bed by 12:00 a.m. (midnight). Livestock barns will be open at5:00 a.m. and close down by 11:00 p.m. Some lights will be left onin the barns for safety purposes.All approved chaperones, parents and youth staying overnight mustbe wearing an overnight bracelet at all times. Overnight braceletsare required for:a. Any exhibitor who plans to stay overnight. Exhibitors willbe issued an overnight bracelet by their adult (21 andover) chaperone after presenting him or her with apermission slip signed by parents. Permission slips mustbe picked up at the fair office. A different overnightbracelet will be issued for each night.b. 4-H parents and leaders approved as chaperones by thefair board officers and extension staff will need tocomplete a permission slip as well for emergencypurposes.No chaperone may be responsible for more than 10 individuals.No overnight bracelets will be issued directly to youth. Thesebracelets will ONLY be issued before 6:00 p.m. Please plan aheadto avoid problems with getting parent signatures.Anyone violating these rules will have their parent/guardian called andbe requested to leave the fairgrounds. All overnight privileges will berevoked for the remainder of the fair.9

Tama County Fair Queen ContestSuperintendent: Deb KupkaRules and Regulations1. Each contestant must be female and at least 16 years of ageand not more than 21 years of age on August 11, the firstday of the 2022 Iowa State Fair.2. Contestants must never have been married or have hadchildren.3. A County Fair Queen must reside in the county sherepresents or an adjoining county if the majority of heractivities are in the county she represents. If a fairrepresents more than one county, the winning contestantmust reside in one of the participating counties.4. Each contestant must be an active member of at least oneservice organization in her community such as a churchgroup, Girl Scouts, 4-H, etc. (Eligibility is not limited to 4-Hmembership.)5. Each entrant in the State Fair Pageant must be selectedfrom a competitive queen contest at her county fair. If anIowa county does not have a contest, it may sanctionanother queen contest in their county such as the “OfficialCounty Fair Queen Contest.” The winner is then eligible tocompete at the Iowa State Fair. Only contests sponsored bycounty fairs who are members of the Association of IowaFairs will be eligible to complete at the state level.6. Only winners as indicated under Rule 5 are eligible torepresent counties at the state pageant. In the event thecounty queen is unable to participate, alternates will beconsidered in order of selection.7. No professional models (one who has had ongoingemployment in which modeling was the primary part of thejob) are eligible to compete in the State Pageant.8. The county fair queen will be selected from qualifiedcandidates in competitive contest. The contest will be judgedin three distinct areas as follows: 1/3 beauty and poise, 1/3community involvement and leadership and 1/3 personality.9. Once a person has competed at the Iowa State Fair or haswon at the Tama County Fair Queen contest, she is noteligible to compete again.10

10. Application forms are available in the Extension Office or bycalling Deb Kupka and requesting a form. The completedapplication must be postmarked no later than June 1, 2022.11. The winner of the county fair contest must be willing toproceed to the Iowa State Fair queen contest, a three-daycompetition in August. If the Tama County Fair Queenshould win the competition, she would be required to stay forthe completion of the Iowa State Fair.12. In case of sickness or extreme emergency, the Tama CountyQueen runner-up will attend the Iowa State Fair Competitionas an alternate.13. There will be a preliminary workshop to discuss what is to beexpected the day of judging and to talk about clothing to beworn, poise, etiquette, etc. This date has not been set but allcandidates will be notified and are expected to attend, aspictures will be taken.14. The day and time for judging the candidates will be theSunday prior to fair and the candidates will be notified afterthe committee receives their application.15. The winner of the Tama County Fair Queen will beannounced on Tuesday evening at the Tama County Fair.16. After being crowned Tama County Fair Queen, she will beexpected to be at the fair each day to make appearancesand hand out ribbons for the various shows, and any otheractivities that the fair queen committee asks her toparticipate in. The Queen may ask the Princess to step in tohand out ribbons for at least one show, especially if thecurrent queen is exhibiting in that show.17. In addition to her role at the 2022 Tama County Fair, theQueen will host the 2023 Fair Queen Workshop in June andattend the 2023 Tama County Fair to presentawards/ribbons at shows prior to the New Fair QueenCrowning and return to Co-MC the 2024 Tama County FairQueen Coronation ceremony.11

Tama County Fair ScholarshipThe Tama County Livestock and Fair Association “Tama CountyFair Scholarship” was established to recognize outstanding highschool students who participate in the Tama County Fair througheither 4-H or FFA programs.Two scholarships will be provided annually provided minimalrequirements* are met. The scholarship will be presented duringthe Tama County Fair. Winning essays may be read at thepresentation. Awards will be provided to winners followingsuccessful completion of their first semester of college. Thisyear’s scholarships will be 500 each.To be eligible for the scholarship you must* actively participate at the Tama County Fair* be a graduating senior* plan to enroll in collegeThe selection committee will consider the following criteria forselection:* essay describing the impact of the Tama County Fair onyour life* exhibits, performances, participation at the Tama CountyFair*letters of reference. Must be signed and sealed in anenvelope from the referring party. References shouldn’t bean immediate family member (i.e. mother, father, brother,sister)* extra curricular and community activities* community service/volunteerismThe application deadline is June 15, 2022. Applications mustbe postmarked by this date to be considered on time.Applications must submit all required items of the application inone envelope. Pee Wee WranglersSponsored by Tama County CattlemenMake entries by contacting Jason Lekin at 641-751-4227two weeks before fair. Calves will be exhibited on Fridayat 4:00 p.mAnyone in Pre-school to 3rd grade may participate – May be aClover Kid, but do not have to be enrolled as a Tama CountyClover Kid.This is an opportunity to show bottle calves born betweenJanuary 1 and May 15, 2022.**All bottle calves must be identified in 4honline by May 15,2022. This includes a farm tag.All bottle calves must be checked in on Tuesday morning withthe other cattle. The calf must be inspected by the fairveterinarian at check in and must remain on the fairgrounds untilall animals are released on Sunday.More than one child in the same family (meeting therequirements) may show the same calf. Do not have to own thecalf to participate.Costumes of child and calf are encouraged, but not mandatory.Judging is based on short interview and appearance of calf andchild.This is for fun, so be creative and have a good time. Samehealth requirements as 4-H bottle calves apply.13

IOWA YOUTH CODE OF ETHICSThis is the Iowa Youth Code of Ethics. If you are enrolled in 4-H in Iowa,you and your parent/guardian signed it when you enrolled in 4-H thisyear. This is the same Code of Ethics used at the Iowa State Fair for alllivestock exhibitors. This is a reminder of what you agreed to when youenrolled in 4-H.Youth are expected to be sincere, honest, and act in sportsmanlikeways at all times. Youth represent the entire program and their behaviorreflects on their parents, leaders, club, and the entire youth program. Alladults involved with the youth program, leaders as well as parents, areexpected to set positive examples and serve as positive role models bywhat they say and do. Any youth who breaks the Code of Ethics orallows another person (adult or peer) to talk them into violating the Codeof Ethics agrees to forfeit all prizes, awards, and premiums. The youthmay also be prohibited from exhibiting at this and future exhibitionsincluding the Iowa State Fair and other county, state or regionalexhibitions.Youth agree to follow these guidelines:1. I will do my own work, appropriate for my age and physical andmental development. This includes research and writing of exhibitexplanations, preparing exhibits (such as sewing, cooking,refinishing, etc.), care and grooming of animals, etc. Adultassistance should help guide and support me, not do it for me.2. All exhibits will be a true representation of my work. Any attempt totake credit for other’s work, alter the conformation of animals, or altertheir performance is prohibited. Copyright violation or allowing othersto complete your exhibit is considered misrepresentation and isprohibited.3. I will treat all people and animals with respect. I will provideappropriate care for animals.4. I will present exhibits that are safe for consumption. All food exhibitswill be safe to exhibit and for judges to evaluate. Other exhibits willbe safe for judges to evaluate and for exhibition.5. All food animals that may be harvested immediately following theshow shall be safe for consumers and shall have met all withdrawaltimes for all medications, and be free of volatile drug residue.6. If any animal requires medical treatment while at the fair orexhibition, only the Official Fair Veterinarian may administer thetreatment. All medications that are administered shall be doneaccording to the label instructions of the medication used.7. My animal’s appearance or performance shall not be altered by anymeans, including medications, external applications, and surgical14

procedures. Any animal that is found to have changed itsappearance or its performance shall be disqualified from the show,and have penalties assessed against the exhibitor, parent and/orguardian by the management of the fair or exhibition.8. I will follow all ownership and possession rules and, if requested willprovide the necessary documentation.9. I will follow all livestock health requirements for this fair or exhibition,according to the state health requirements as printed in the PremiumBook of the fair or exhibition. I will provide animal health certificatesfrom a licensed veterinarian upon request from the management ofthe fair or exhibition.10. By my entering an animal in this fair or exhibition, I am givingconsent to the management of the fair or exhibition to obtain anyspecimens of urine, saliva, blood, or other substances from theanimal to be used in testing. If the laboratory report on the analysisof any sample indicates a presence of forbidden drugs, this shall beevidence such substance has been administered to the animal eitherinternally or externally. It is presumed that the sample tested by thelaboratory to which it is sent is the one taken from the animal inquestion, its integrity is preserved and all procedures of saidcollection and preservation, transfer to the laboratory and analysis ofthe sample are correct and accurate and the report received fromthe laboratory pertains to the sample take from the animal inquestion and correctly reflects the condition of the animal at the timethe sample was taken, with the burden on the exhibitor, parentand/or guardian to prove otherwise.11. I am responsible for my exhibit and I will not allow others to violatethis Code on my behalf. By my entering an exhibit in this fair orexhibition I will accept any disciplinary action taken by managementof this fair or exhibition for any violation of this Code of Ethics andany other rules of completion of the fair or exhibition withoutrecourse against the fair or exhibition.12. I want my exhibit to be an example of how to accept what life has tooffer, both good and not so good, and how to live with and learn fromthe outcome.13. I will not be involved in any illegal activities while participating in 4-Hand FFA events, including but not limited to alcohol, tobacco or druguse.15

4-H and FFA Project Department Rules1. Fair entries must be received at the Tama CountyExtension Office or postmarked by Wednesday, June 15,2022. NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.2. All 4-H and Clover Kid members must have attended at leastthree 4-H business meetings of their primary 4-H club duringthe current 4-H year by June 1, 2022 in order to exhibit atthe 2022 Tama County Fair.3. Due to the current 2022 events, all dates are subject tochange. Please read your monthly newsletter and emails forupdates and possible changes.4. Accommodations As part of its mission to serve all Iowans,Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will providereasonable accommodations to its “policies, practices, orprocedures” when the accommodations are necessary toprovide equal access to programming to participants with aqualifying disability. The process has the following fivestages: (1) completion of the Reasonable AccommodationRequest and Healthcare Provider Disability Documentationforms, (2) participants and parents are sent an agenda forthe eligibility team meeting, (3) the eligibility meeting isconducted, (4) a determination letter is sent to participants,(5) possible reassessment for future events. The goal of thisprocess is to understand the participant's limitations and toprovide reasonable accommodations for all eventsthroughout the Extension and Outreach system during thatperiod without filling out additional requests. To begin theprocess, please contact your County Youth Coordinator forthe Reasonable Accommodation Request and HealthcareProvider Disability Documentation forms.5. Failure to abide by ALL rules may disqualify the exhibitor forone year and will result in forfeiting any prizes, premiums,and banners/trophy (championships) for all livestock andnon-livestock exhibits. All exhibits will be judged and receivewritten/oral comments and ribbons only.6. The Tama County Fair is open only to youth who aremembers of Tama County 4-H Clubs or FFA chapters,unless otherwise specified.7. To be eligible to show, exhibitors in 4-H and FFA must be inthe 4th grade by Sept. 15, 2021. Youth are eligible to show atthe Tama County Fair through the summer immediatelyfollowing their high school graduation. A member becomes16

ineligible to exhibit at the county level upon completion of acalendar year after high school graduation. (For example, anFFA member graduating in 2022 may show that summer(2022) but may not show in 2023).8. Clover Kids are youth enrolled in Tama County Clover Kidsfor the current year in grades K-3rd. Clover Kids may exhibitin non-livestock areas and the following livestock areas:bottle lamb, bottle beef, bottle goat, pets, poultry, andrabbits. Please be sure to make an entry in the Clover KidClasses.9. Exhibitors in 4-H classes are not eligible to exhibit in asimilar department of the FFA Classes or vice-versa. Withthe following exceptions:BEEF- 4-H members who exhibit 4-H market beef but do notexhibit in the 4-H breeding Beef classes, may, if eligible,exhibit in the FFA breeding classes. Likewise, 4-H memberswho exhibit in the 4-H breeding classes but not in 4-Hmarket classes may, if eligible exhibit in the FFA marketanimal classes.SHEEP - 4-H members who exhibit Breeding Sheep in 4-Hclasses may, if eligible, exhibit Market Lambs in FFA classesor vice versa. The member must have done the work on the project,decided what was going to be made, and completed theproject in the current 4-H/FFA year (since Oct. 2021).Articles made by parents, teachers, or anyone other than themembers themselves are not acceptable as 4-H projects.12. Entry fees for both livestock and non-livestock projects willbe 1 per entry. Clover Kids do not pay an entry fee and donot receive a premium.13.
