PRODUCT DATA SHEETSarnatherm EPSRigid expanded polystyrene insulation boardPRODUCT DESCRIPTIONCHARACTERISTICS / ADVANTAGESSarnatherm EPS is a rigid expanded polystyreneinsulation board. Sarnatherm EPS is installed directly onthe substrate (depending on local code or FMrequirements), over an approved thermal barrier, ordirectly on the existing roof surface prior to theapplication of the Sarnafil membrane or Sikaplan membrane. USESWherever insulation is required within a conventionalroof assembly.AREAS OF APPLICATION New RoofsRecover RoofsMechanically Fastened SystemsAdhered SystemsProduct Data SheetSarnatherm EPSNovember 2021, Version 05.010209350320000050101/5Manufactured with no CFCs or HCFCsVirtually no GWP (Global Warming Potential)Zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential)Recognized as resistant to mold growthAPPROVALS / STANDARDS ASTM C 578 Type VIII, II, IX, XIV, XVUL 1256, 790, 263FM 4450, 4470Miami-Dade CountyState of Florida

Do not use adark colored tarpaulin. The factory applied packaging is intended only forprotection during transit and should only be slit enough to preventaccumulation of condensation then removed prior to immediate use.Insulation that becomes wet or damaged should be removed and replacedwith dry insulation.DensityNominalMinimumType VIII1.25 psf1.15 psfType II1.5 psf1.35 psfType IX2.0 psf1.8 psf(ASTM C-303)TECHNICAL INFORMATIONCompressive StrengthType VIII13.0 psi (90 kPa)Type IIType IX15.0 psi (104 kPa) 25.0 psi (173 kPa)(ASTM D-1621)Minimum values at yield or 10 % deformation, whichever occurs first.Flexural StrengthType VIII30 psi (208 kPa)Type II35 psi (240 kPa)Type IX50 psi (345 kPa)Type II2%Type IX2%(ASTM C-203)Minimum valuesDimensional StabilityType VIII2%(ASTM D-2126)Maximum valuesThermal ConductivityC-value per inch, BTU/hr .ft 2. AVAILABILITY/WARRANTYAVAILABILITYFrom Sika Corporation – Roofing Authorized Applicatorsfor use within Sarnafil or Sikaplan systems.WARRANTYUpon successful completion of the installed roof by theSika Authorized Applicator in compliance with Sikarequirements, Sika Corporation will provide a warrantyto the Building Owner via the Sika Authorized Applicator.LIMITATIONS Care must be taken whenever solvents are presentnear polystyrene insulation. Do not use solvent based adhesives with systemsincorporating polystyrene insulation for roofmembrane attachment. Foam plastic insulation will ignite if exposed to fire ofsufficient heat and intensity. Protect foam insulationfrom exposure to open flame or other ignition sourcesduring shipment, storage, and installation. Polystyrene insulations should not be used in directcontact with chimneys, heater vents, steam pipes, orother surfaces where temperatures exceed 150 F(65 C). Bareback membranes cannot be installed in contactwith polystyrene. Polystyrene insulations should have additionalprotection in addition to normally specified coverboards in areas where dark membranes are used andwhere "reflected solar energy" is expected to bepresent. Areas adjacent to higher walls or other structures withreflective cladding should be considered for additionalheat protection. For example, areas near metal or glasscladding, or near, or in between large groupings ofmechanical equipment, or near higher reflectiveparapets, should be considered for additional heatprotection. Additional heat protection for such roofareas include covering roofing membrane with SarnafilPVC Protection Layer and then applying pavers orballast to the affected area. Polystyrene insulation is susceptible to degradationwhen exposed to high temperatures or when exposedto solvents or solvent fumes. The typical maximumservice temperature for polystyrene insulations is165 F (74 C). Should ambient or surface temperaturebe expected to exceed this value, please consult themanufacturer of the insulation.ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH AND SAFETYFor further information and advice regardingtransportation, handling, storage and disposal ofchemical products, user should refer to the actual SafetyData Sheets containing physical, environmental,Product Data SheetSarnatherm EPSNovember 2021, Version 05.010209350320000050104/5toxicological and other safety related data. User mustread the current actual Safety Data Sheets before usingany products. In case of an emergency, call CHEMTRECat 1-800-424-9300, International 703-527-3887.APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONSSarnatherm EPS is installed by a Sarnafil AuthorizedApplicator. Sarnatherm EPS may be installed either bymechanical-attachment to the roof deck withSarnafasteners and Sarnaplates, by full attachment withlow rise sprayed urethane foam or partial attachmentwith foam adhesive (options depend on deck type andSarnafil system to be installed). If the compressive strength of the EPS board is less than20 psi, then a gypsum cover board must be installedover the board for load distribution and resistancepurposes.Contact Sika Corporation – Roofing TechnicalDepartment regarding alternative methods ofattachment.MAINTENANCEStandard maintenance of Sarnafil and Sikaplan systemsshould include regular inspections of flashings, drainsand termination sealants at least twice a year and aftereach storm.OTHER RESTRICTIONSSee Legal Disclaimer.
