This application is typically performed by a medicalprofessional, inserted deep into the nasal cavity as thepatient’s head is tilted back and can be uncomfortable.Anterior Nasal SwabAn Anterior Nasal swab is less invasive and results in lesspatient discomfort. This application can be performed by amedical professional or self-administered. It simply requiresthe lower nasal cavity to be swabbed in a circular motionaround the nostril.Oral SwabAn Oral Swab takes place in the oral cavity includingswabbing the interior cheeks, roof of mouth, tongue andgums. This application can be performed by a medicalprofessional or self-administered. An oral swab usuallyrequires 30 seconds of swabbing to accurately collect thespecimen.7
