12 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLEA WORD ABOUT YOUR KEYSThe authorized dealer that sold you your vehicle has thekey code numbers for your vehicle locks. These numberscan be used to order duplicate keys from your authorizeddealer. Ask your authorized dealer for these numbersand keep them in a safe place.You can insert the double-sided keys into the locks witheither side up.Vehicle KeyIgnition Key RemovalAutomatic TransaxlePlace the shift lever in PARK. Turn the ignition switch tothe ACC position, push the key and cylinder inward,rotate the key to the LOCK position, and remove the key.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE 13NOTE: If you try to remove the key before you place the shiftlever in PARK, the key may become trapped temporarily in the ignition switch lock cylinder. If this occurs,rotate the key to the right slightly, then remove the keyas described. If a malfunction occurs, the system willtrap the key in the ignition switch lock cylinder towarn you that this safety feature is inoperable. Theengine can be started and stopped, but the key cannotbe removed until you obtain service.Ignition Switch Positions1 — LOCK2 — ACC (ACCESSORY)3 — ON/RUN4 — START For vehicles not equipped with the Electronic VehicleInformation Center (EVIC), the power windowswitches, radio, hands–free system (if equipped), andpower outlets will remain active for 45 seconds afterthe ignition switch is turned to the LOCK position.Opening either door will cancel this feature. Before exiting a vehicle, always apply the parkingbrake, shift the transmission into PARK, and remove the Key Fob from the ignition. When leavingthe vehicle, always lock your vehicle.(Continued)WARNING! (Continued) Never leave children alone in a vehicle, or withaccess to an unlocked vehicle. Allowing children tobe in a vehicle unattended is dangerous for anumber of reasons. A child or others could beseriously or fatally injured. If the light remains on after thebulb check, it indicates that there is a problem with theelectronics. In addition, if the light begins to flash afterthe bulb check, it indicates that someone used an invalidkey to start the engine. Either of these conditions willresult in the engine being shut off after two seconds.CAUTION!The Sentry Key Immobilizer system is not compatible with some aftermarket remote starting systems.Use of these systems may result in vehicle startingproblems and loss of security protection.All of the keys provided with your vehicle have beenprogrammed to the vehicle electronics.Replacement KeysNOTE: Only keys that have been programmed to theIf the Vehicle Security Light turns on during normal vehicle electronics can be used to start the vehicle. Theexterior lights will flash, and the horn will sound. If thisoccurs, disarm the Vehicle Security Alarm.ILLUMINATED ENTRY — IF EQUIPPEDThe courtesy lights will turn on when you press theunlock button on the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter or open any door.This feature also turns on the approach lighting in theoutside mirrors (if equipped). Refer to “Mirrors” in“Understanding The Features Of Your Vehicle” for further information.The interior lights will fade to off after approximately 30seconds or they will immediately fade to off once theTamper Alertignition switch is turned to ON/RUN from the OFFIf the alarm was triggered, but the warning signals have position.timed out, the park and taillights flash three times, andthe horn will chirp three times, when unlocking the NOTE:vehicle with a valid RKE transmitter to alert the driver.
