12 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLEA WORD ABOUT YOUR KEYSIgnition Node Module (IGNM) — If EquippedYour vehicle is equipped with a keyless ignition system.This system consists of a Key Fob with Remote KeylessEntry (RKE) transmitter and a Wireless Ignition Node(WIN) with integral ignition switch. You can insert theKey Fob into the ignition switch with either side up.The Ignition Node Module (IGNM) operates similar to anignition switch. It has four operating positions, three withdetents and one that is spring-loaded. The detent positions are OFF, ACC, and ON/RUN. The START positionis a spring-loaded momentary contact position. Whenreleased from the START position, the switch automatically returns to the ON/RUN position.Keyless Enter-N-Go Feature If EquippedThis vehicle may be equipped with the Keyless Enter-NNOTE: If your vehicle is equipped with Keyless EnterGo feature, refer to Starting Procedures in Starting AndN-Go , the Electronic Vehicle Information CenterOperating for further information.(EVIC) will display the ignition switch position (OFF/ACC/RUN). Refer to “Electronic Vehicle InformationCenter (EVIC) — If Equipped” in “Understanding YourInstrument Panel” for further information.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE 13Keyless Ignition Node (KIN) — If EquippedThis feature allows the driver to operate the ignitionswitch with the push of a button, as long as the RemoteKeyless Entry (RKE) transmitter is in the passengercompartment.The Keyless Ignition Node (KIN) has four operatingpositions, three of which are labeled and will illuminatewhen in position. The three positions are OFF, ACC, andON/RUN. The fourth position is START, during startRUN will illuminate.1234— OFF— ACC (ACCESSORY)— ON/RUN— STARTNOTE: In case the ignition switch does not change withthe push of a button, the RKE transmitter (Key Fob) mayhave a low or dead battery. In this situation a back upmethod can be used to operate the ignition switch. Putthe nose side (side opposite of the emergency key) of theKey Fob against the ENGINE START/STOP button andpush to operate the ignition switch.2

14 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLEKey FobThe Key Fob also contains the Remote Keyless Entry(RKE) transmitter and an emergency key, which stores inthe rear of the Key Fob.The emergency key allows for entry into the vehicleshould the battery in the vehicle or the Key Fob go dead.You can keep the emergency key with you when valetparking.Keyless Ignition Node (KIN)1 — OFF2 — ACC (ACCESSORY)3 — ON/RUNTo remove the emergency key, slide the mechanical latchon the face of the Key Fob sideways with your thumb andthen pull the key out with your other hand.

Turn the Key Fob to theOFF position and then remove the Key Fob.NOTE: Power window switches will also remain activefor up to 10 minutes after the ignition switch has beenturned to OFF, depending upon the accessory delaysetting. Opening either front door will cancel this feature.WARNING! Before exiting a vehicle, always apply the parkingbrake, shift the transmission into PARK, and pushignition button to place ignition in OFF position.When leaving the vehicle, always lock your vehicle. Never leave children alone in a vehicle, or withaccess to an unlocked vehicle.(Continued) Allowing children to be in a vehicle unattended isdangerous for a number of reasons. A child orothers could be seriously or fatally injured. Children should be warned not to touch the parkingbrake, brake pedal or the shift lever. Do not leave the Key Fob in or near the vehicle, orin a location accessible to children, and do notleave the ignition of a vehicle equipped withKeyless Enter-N-Go in the ACC or ON/RUNmode. A child could operate power windows, othercontrols, or move the vehicle. Do not leave children or animals inside parkedvehicles in hot weather. Interior heat build-up maycause serious injury or death.

Alwaysremove the Key Fob from the ignition and lock alldoors when leaving the vehicle unattended.will cause the reminder chime to sound. Refer to “Starting Procedures” in “Starting And Operating” for furtherinformation.SENTRY KEY The Sentry Key Immobilizer system prevents unauthorized vehicle operation by disabling the engine. Keep thePIN in a secure location. This number is required forauthorized dealer replacement of Key Fobs. Duplication ofKey Fobs may be performed at an authorized dealer, thisprocedure consists of programming a blank Key Fob to thevehicle electronics. A blank Key Fob is one that has neverbeen programmed.General InformationThe Sentry Key system complies with FCC rules Part 15and with RSS-210 of Industry Canada. Operation issubject to the following conditions: This device may not cause harmful interference. This device must accept any interference that may bereceived, including interference that may cause undesired operation.VEHICLE SECURITY ALARM — IF EQUIPPEDThe Vehicle Security Alarm monitors the vehicle doorsNOTE: When having the Sentry Key Immobilizer sys- for unauthorized entry and the ignition switch for unautem serviced, bring all vehicle Key Fobs with you to the thorized operation. TheRKE transmitter does not need to be pointed at thevehicle to activate the system.NOTE: Inserting the Key Fob with RKE transmitter intothe ignition switch disables the system from respondingto any button presses from that RKE transmitter. Drivingat speeds 5 mph (8 km/h) and above disables the systemfrom responding to all RKE transmitter buttons for allRKE transmitters.2

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE 25Using The RKE Transmitter2Key Fob With Three-Button RKE TransmitterSeven-button RKE transmitters will provide functionsthat allow the same basic operation as the three-button,Key Fob With RKE Transmitter Keyless Enter-N-Go Fob (KIN)but may also be used to operate the power liftgateThree-button RKE transmitters will provide basic UN- (optional), power sliding doors, Remote Start featureLOCK, LOCK and PANIC functions.
