Putting the Hospitality in HospitalOur PEPs Provide an Earand an AnswerTina Williams provides thisservice in both ED and for the3rd Floor in-house patients.Kadidja Malivert covers the2nd Floor patients. As part of the effort to improve the experiencesof hospital patients and their families, ourhospital has hired four Patient ExperienceProfessionals (PEPs). Their job is to ensure thepatients not only get great medical attention, but that they have the most positive experiencepossible during their stay at TVRH. The PEPwill answer non-medical questions, relayinformation from a provider to the patient, help patients understand the reason they arewaiting, serve as a patient advocate, or simplyget patients something they need like an extrapillow or blanket.Tina Williams provides this service in bothED and for the 3rd Floor in-house patients.Avena Dat covers the 4th and 5th Floors andKadidja Malivert covers the 2nd Floor patients.John Hartley covers ED plus Observation andCardiac Medical for the second shift, and soonthere will be a part-time PEP covering thehospital on weekends. Tina also makes followup phone calls to any patients who aredischarged from ED (and not admitted to thehospital) to find out how their experience wasand if there are any issues or questions that shecan resolve for them. This new role does NOT replace the PatientSurveys done by Auxiliary volunteers or theinteractions that naturally occur betweenpatients and the volunteer. If in-house patientshave a complaint or concern regardingtheir hospital experience, the PEP should becontacted directly so she/he can research thesituation and handle it with the appropriatestaff to resolve the issue for the patient. PEPscan be reached via Vocera at 352-751-8255.(Note: If the patient has been discharged thecurrent hierarchy should be used. First, callthe director of the department generatingthe complaint. If not available, call the housesupervisor and if not available, call RiskManagement.)GET A GOOD LOOK AT THESE PHOTOS. YOU WILL WANT TO BEABLE TO IDENTIFY THEM WHEN THEY ARE NEEDED.DON'T GET CAUGHT BY THE FLU BUGAvena Dat covers the 4th and5th FloorsAll volunteers who work on the TVRH Campus,East Campus, or the soon‐to‐be openedFreestanding Emergency Room are requiredto get a flu shot for the current season anddisplay the sticker of compliance on theirbadge. All volunteers who work solely at Ye OldeThrift Shoppe are not required to get a flushot but are encouraged to do so for their ownhealth and protection.John Hartley covers ED plusObservation and CardiacMedical for the second shift. The Hospital has received the vaccine andEmployee Health is offering free flu clinicsat several locations. The clinic schedule isavailable now on Vision under the EmployeeHealth and Wellness tab. As in the past, the5hospital onlygives the genericvaccine and notthe high dose.If you get your flu shot elsewhere, bring yourproof of inoculation to the Day Captain’s Officefor processing. You may pick up your stickerat the Day Captain’s Office approximately oneweek after dropping it off.Any volunteer working in a patient and/orpublic contact area who does not or cannotget a flu shot will be required to wear a maskwhen volunteering from Jan. 1 through March31, 2020.

I came in with an eye injury andFriday Updateneeded an exam and evaluation. Brian Reinhartz is an extremely valuablemember of your medical team. He was considerate and made me feel like my small injury was themost important moment of his shift. He had excellent bedside manner, explained everything he wasdoing and provided the followup medication that I needed. His demeanor was calming and friendly.I knew he was in control and smart. Please keep doing the excellent work that I experienced. TheER is a well-functioning, caring unit.”from President and CEODon Henderson's6

When my husband and I arrived at the hospital, the volunteerswere helpful in escorting us back. We informed the staff of my sister’sAlzheimer’s disease and they did all they could to help.As the day went on, my sister became agitated and a nurse named Mary took over. She held mysister’s hand and talked soothing words to her for several hours giving us a much needed break. Our head nurse Melissa was professional and compassionate. Dr. Tran removed the blockage andseveral more nurses – including Paul, Jeff and Mary took great care of my sister.I will not hesitate to use TVRH as everyone we dealt with was top notch!”7
