The ContingencyNurse Program is designed tofill gaps in scheduling staff towork in Bethesda communities—specifically, skilled nursing andassisted living. However, theopportunities afforded to theparticipants in the program, aswell as the criteria that must beagreed to, is what makes thisunique. The Contingency Nurse Programparticipants are not stationed atone specific facility; rather, theycan be asked to work anywherewithin the Bethesda system. In addition, while contingencynurses enjoy a higher rate of payand flexibility in their schedules, they are not eligible for benefitsfrom Bethesda. These nurseswould be full-time Bethesdaemployees. Currently, theprogram is recruiting for licensedpractical nurses (LPNs).Eileen Caffey, Bethesda’s Directorof Recruitment and EmployeeRelations, is confident that thisprogram will make a difference instaffing. “It works so well for ourcurrent needs,” she says.“It appeals to nurseswho are looking fora flexible scheduleand are willing towork at any of ourcommunities, but itdoesn’t take awayopportunities fromour current nursingstaff.”Contingent Staffing Coordinator.“Hopefully soon we will expandthe program to include certifiednursing assistants (CNAs) as well.”For more information about theContingency Nurse Program orto find out how to apply, contactNici at 314-800-1926. n“It’s almost likeBethesda has its ownstaffing agency,”says Nici Bovee,Bri Smith, LPN, a participant in the Contingency Nurse program (right), reviews chartsBethesda’swith Brandis Loving, LPN, during a shift at Bethesda Dilworth.Bethesda Information Resource Line 314-800-1911Page 3
