UPCOMING EVENTS4 HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA z- 2022 Our annual Girl Scout Alumnae holiday event, Holiday Extravaganza, will take place atCamp Bothin November 11-13, 2022. This great weekend for girls 6th grade and upgives them the opportunity to create holiday gifts for family and friends, as well ashaving fun with their friends. We are seeking volunteers who can provide a workshopfor older girls. Let us know if you have any questions. Thanks, Martha and Carleendpueblos@aol.com holiday-extravaganza.htmlGirl Scout Hayward Cabin has new lights!!!By Barbara ScheiflerThanks to GSA, the Girl Scout Hayward Cabin has newlights and brightness has returned!! GSA membersElizabeth Smith and Barb Scheifler submitted a fundingAs we have a mission to support our GS troops, we feltthis expenditure would greatly improve a space alreadyhighly used. The currentindoor lightingwas original tothe 1950’scabin!! Theinteriordimnessusually forcedthe usersoutside forbetter lighting.proposal at our March 12, 2022 Mid-Year Meeting for upto 1,000 for new lighting for the interior of the HaywardCabin. This cabin is used by GSA for meetings, gatheringsand our 2021 Living Covida Loca. But, it is mainly usedby Dos Pueblos and Chabot Service Units 20-40 times peryear plus for their summer camps. It is also used by GSCouncil for training. Its dim lighting has been a problemfor all these users. So GSA member Kim Catano-Colantuano took it uponherself to purchase new lights and then rounded up herhusband, Jeff and retired membership developmentmanager at GS Northern California Georgia Kopel’s son,Drew Kopel (an electrician) to voluntarily install thewiring and new lights. Because it took less lights thanpurchased for the largeroom, the extra lightswere installed in thebathroom and kitchen.Kudos, hugs and smilesto Jeff, Derek and Kimfor tackling this longneeded project. Andthanks to GSA for thefunding. Light has now returned to our Hayward Cabin!!!!3

TREFOIL GUILD/OST USA CONFERENCEBy Kindra MendallTrina Merriman and I attended the firsttriennial Trefoil Guild / OST USA meeting inDallas, Texas April 1-4. A little background,in the UK and UK Affiliated Girl Guidingcountries, the Trefoil Guild is the adultversion of a Girl Guide. When you age out ofGirl Guiding at age 18 you can become amember of a Trefoil Guild in your area andsupport the organization as an adult. Thereis nothing like this in the United States. Sohere, different groups have formed indifferent councils all over the country to fillthis void (our group included). Some ofthese groups are Trefoil Guilds, some areAbove: Opening Ceremony.Order of the Silver Trefoil groups (which require a 25year membership in Girl Scouts to join), some areGreen Hats, some are Roundup Meeting groups andthere are many more types. The Trefoil Guild/OSTUSA met in Louisville Kentucky three years ago to'officially' become an organization and createguidelines for this effort. They agreed they wouldmeet again officially in three years and this was thatconference.Twelve different alumni groups were representedfrom around the country including California (us),Oregon, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Arizona, NewMexico, Kentucky, New York, North Carolina,Pennsylvania, and Texas, our host. At the meeting wenetworked, met with the council Vice President forAlumni Engagement, and met the National VolunteerPartners helping with this movement. The goal of thisgroup is to organize the various alumni groups in theUnited States under a national umbrella. During theconference's plenary session, we elected a new boardand it was announced that we would meet inAbove: Opening ceremony display. Small flags represent memberstates.6

TREFOIL GUILD/OST USA CONFERENCEcontinuedinformation my way (gsaspen@comcast.net) as allthe delegates were tasked with reaching out throughall our individual networks to try to find these groupsin whatever form they may be, and see if they want tobecome part of this national organization. Luckily ourdues are small ( 25 per organization) so thecommitment is small but the potential benefit istremendous.Above: Kindra and a national partner. She’s been a Girl Scout forover 65 years!Nashville, Tennessee in 2025. I was elected to theNational Board as a member-at-large and will behelping to move the group forward. Our next step is totry to recruit more alumnae groups to our nationaleffort. The beauty of this group is they are trying to be abroad umbrella so you do not have to be officially anOST group or a Trefoil Guild group to be a member, just an adult group supporting the Girl Scoutmovement. So here is my ask of all of you. If youknow a Girl Scout in another Council pleasecontact them and ask if they have an adultgroup in their Council. And/or send their contactAbove: Hanging around the campfire. It was an honor to represent our group and to hearhow strong our group is relative to some of the others. And I give kudos to the founders of GSA and everyonewho has worked so hard over the past 30 years tokeep it the amazing organization it is. I look forward toLeft: The new TB/OST board.7

TREFOIL GUILD/OST USA CONFERENCEcontinuedsharing future updates on theNational Trefoil Guild/OST USAorganization in our futurenewsletters. At the end of the event everyoneattending received the officialTrefoil Guild/OST USA memberpin with our lovely new logo. Iagreed that I will be building awebsite for our nationalorganization as one does not existcurrently and it makes it very hardfor people to connect with us.Above: A plenery session in the mainhall.Right: A typicalworkshop.Below: Trina leading the campfiregroup in Sister, Sister.P.S. I wore my leader vest withthe Adulting 101 patch on theback and there wastremendous interest in it. So Iwant to thank you all for beingwilling to support thatprogram.8
