1. Take a Placement Test & Get Academic Counseling:Come to the Language Center at the Northeast Campus to take the free ESL Placement Exam. We are openfor testing Monday through Thursday (arrive between 9 am - 4:30 pm) and Friday (arrive between 9 am - 3pm). Extended testing hours will be available in the evening Monday through Thursday during August. Theaddress is 3727 E Apache, Tulsa OK 74115. Please come to the Student Union building on the east side ofthe campus. Parking lots 8 and 9 are the closest. The Language Center is in room SU109.After you submit your exam, an ESL staff member will talk with your about your results and courses for yourlevel. The ESL staff member will also answer your questions and help you with your enrollment.2. Submit an Application:Credit students only: Submit an application online at www.tulsacc.edu, click on “Apply”. If you need help,please come to the Language Center or call (918) 595-8411 for assistance. If you are a US permanent resident, please bring your card. You will receive your TCC student ID number by email in 5 to 7 days. Additionaldocuments may be required. Please contact the ESL counselor at (918) 595-8411 orsalli.wandke@tulsacc.edu with any questions or for more information.Non-credit learners only: An ESL staff member will submit your application for you when you enroll.3. Enroll in Classes:An ESL staff member will assist you with your enrollment. Non-credit learners can enroll by phone with acredit or debit card. Late enrollmentsare strongly discouraged and are only on a space available basis.4. Pay Your Fees:Credit students only: Pay for your classes online using MYTCC or at the Bursar’s office, (www.tulsacc.eduand click on “MYTCC”.) Your username is your student ID number including the “T”. Select “reset” and followthe prompts to set your password. You must reset your password every six months.Credit students may also choose to enroll in the TCC payment plan. For more information, please contact theBursar’s Office or ESL counselor.Non-credit learners only: Please pay for your classes at the time of enrollment. We accept Visa,MasterCard (debit or credit), or Discover cards, checks, or cash.All students: If you enroll during the first week of classes, you will be charged a “late enrollment fee”.The late enrollment fee is an additional 25 per course. Students will be charged their tution and fees andthe late enrollment fee for each course.3

6. Get an ID Card:ID cards are made in the Student Life Office on the second floor of the Student Union. Credit students only: Please bring your student ID number and a photo ID. Non-credit learners only: The cost is 5 per semester. Please bring a photo ID and your receiptshowing your ID number and payment for the ID card. If you have questions, please contact theLanguage Center.Please DO NOT throw your ID card away at the end of the semester. The cost to replaceit is 20. Your ID card will be revalidated each semester when you pay your tuition andfees.7. Refund Policy for Course Withdrawal (Dropped Class):100% Refunds for course withdrawals (dropped classes) from credit or non-credit ESL courses areonly given during the first week of the semester. After the first week, there is no refund. PolicyAll applicants who indicate English as a second language shall be required to provide evidence of proficiency in the English language prior to enrollment in college-level courses.ProcedureOne of the following standards is used to determine English Language Proficiency for all firsttime applicants prior to enrolling in college-level credit courses:1. Standardized Testing: Students must meet one of the following minimum scores foradmission to TCC without taking ESL:ExamMinimum ScoreInternet-Based TOEFL (iBT)61Paper-Based TOEFL (Currently not offered at TCC)500IELTS5.5Duolingo852. Intensive English Program (IEP): This program is a matriculation program whichallows students to enter TCC college classes by proving their readiness through testingand class work. Students must score 460 or higher on the paper-based TOEFL , 48 orhigher on the Internet TOEFL administered at a Special Testing Center or an International Testing Center, or 5.0 or higher on the IELTS examination, or 75 or higher onDuolingo prior to beginning the IEP. After achieving an acceptable score, studentsmust successfully complete a minimum of 12 weeks of study at an IEP approved by theOklahoma State Regents immediately prior to TCC admission. At least two-thirds of the12 weeks must be instruction at an advanced level.3. High School Performance: Students must successfully complete the high school corerequirements in an English-speaking high school or graduate from an English-speakinghigh school and demonstrate competency through the Policy on Remediation and Removal of High School Curricular Deficiencies. Students must take the college placement test in the Testing Center. The results will be used to demonstrate proficiency inEnglish and math to determine the appropriate remediation.4.Previous College Performance: Students must provide an official transcript showing a minimum of 24 college-level credit hours with passing grades from an accreditedAmerican college or university.5

What is an “In-Person” course?100% in-person Most in-person courses meet two times per week in class face-to-face. Listeningcourses meet four times per week. Enrollments in-person courses are limited. We recommend that you enroll early. ESL courses are not self-paced. You are expected to participate in the class and tocomplete assigned activities. Your grade will be based on completion of the assigned activities. Please see your course syllabus for more information. If you have a fever or are sick or have been around people who are sick, youmust stay home and contact your teacher. If you are ill or absent and want to use Zoom, please contact your instructor before class. Please note: If pubic health recommendations change in Tulsa, your instructor willlet you know of any changes that could effect your class.What is an “Zoom” course?100 % live Zoom On-line Most Zoom courses meet two times per week on Zoom during the in-personclass meeting. Listening classes meet four times per week. Zoom students willparticipate in the live class using Zoom. All times are Central Standard Time (Oklahoma time). Please check what timethat is where you are. These courses are not self-paced. You are expected participate in the Zoom classes and to complete assigned activities. Your grade will be based on completionof the assigned activities. Please see your course syllabus for more information. Enrollment in the Zoom class option is also limited. Please enroll early. This is a great choice if you prefer or need to be at home. It is also great for people who do not live in the Tulsa area. This includes people who live in other statesor other countries. Tell your friends and family! Teachers will do their best to record Zoom classes.6

ESL Placement Testing:Any student who wishes to enroll in ESL classes for the first time must take the ESL Placement Exam. The ESL Placement Exam measures reading, writing, listening, speaking andgrammar and is used to ensure that the student is enrolled in ESL classes at the appropriatelevel. The following are some common questions about the ESL Placement test:How much does it cost?There is no charge for the ESL Placement Exam.How much time does it take?The ESL Placement Exam takes approximately 1½hours.How can I register for the exam?There is no advanced registration needed.Where is the ESL Placement Exam given? Tuition:The following chart shows the approximate tuition rate for non-resident and resident credit students.Non-credit rates are also listed. Please note that other fees may apply. The International Association is a campus organization open to all TCC students, especiallyESL and international students. It’s purpose is to introduce students to Tulsa and to providea fun environment to learn about and share each other’s cultures.An organizational meeting is held at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters, but theclub meets year-round. Regular meetings are held during all semesters and generally heldon Wednesdays at 12:00 PM in the Language Center at Northeast campus in room SU109.The International Association has sponsored the international fashion show, traditional dances, and music from many countries, parties and field trips to museums such as the GilcreaseMuseum and Cherokee Heritage Center, as well as other places of interest including the statecapitol and Woolaroc. The International Association also sponsors a Zoom Conversation Club,most Friday mornings at 9 am.
