Lenovo System Updates for Microsoft SystemCenter Configuration Manager, v6.0The topics in this section provide an overview of Lenovo System Updates forMicrosoft System Center Configuration Manager, v6.0 and product features.Keeping computers up-to-date with BIOS, firmware, driver and hardware-relatedapplications is a key activity for any IT administrator. It is complex andtime-consuming for an IT administrator to determine the compliance, plan theupdates, select the appropriate hardware updates, and deploy the updates to theright set of systems for keeping the environment stable and reliable.Through its alliance with Microsoft System Center products, Microsoft SystemCenter Configuration Manager 2007 (SCCM) and Windows Server Update Services(WSUS), Lenovo System Updates for Microsoft System Center ConfigurationManager, v6.0 is making a commitment to reducing the time and effort of keepingan up-to-date IT environment.New in this release Lenovo System Updates for Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, v6.0adds the following hardware support: v Lenovo Flex System x240 Compute Node, 7162, 2588v Lenovo Flex System x280, x480, x880 X6 Compute Node, 7196 4258v Lenovo System x3500 M5, mSystemSystemSystemx3550x3630x3650x3750x3850M4, 7914M4, 7158M4, 7915M4, 8753X6/x3950 X6, 6241Trial license supportWhen you are installing the product for the first time, if a product license is notactivated, a trial license is automatically activated. After the trial license has beenactivated, a 90-day trial period begins. During the trial period, all of the premiumfeatures are enabled.Important: Before allowing the trial license to become activated, you need toverify that your system time is correct.In the last five days of the trial period, the trial license software providesnotification about the trial license expiration. This notification will display every 24hours. After the trial license expires, to maintain the premium features, you mustactivate the product license. After the product license is activated, manually restartthe component to enable the premium features.Free featuresThis release has all of the free features and functions from previous versions andincludes the following new and improved free features and enhancements. Using the new features, you can:v Publish the local updates to Windows Server Update Services.v Expire the published updates on the Windows Server Update Services server.v Download the latest updates from the Lenovo website.v Install updates for special or undetected hardware, which are not installed bydefault. This includes Brocade, Emulex, and QLogic HBAs and CNAs.v Show the prerequisite and supersede updates information now available in thedetail view.Enhancements include:v An updated user interface that includes new functions introduced in version 3.1.v Full support of the new update file format .uxz to download, publish, anddeploy the OS agnostic firmware update, which is not in a traditional executablefile (EXE), by using a UXZ file.Premium featuresThe premium features are available when the Lenovo System Updates installationis registered with the Lenovo XClarity Integrator for Microsoft System Center, v6.0or later. You can purchase an activation license by contacting either your Lenovorepresentative or a Lenovo Business Partner.For more information, refer to “Trial license support” on page 1.The following additional features are fee-based and require the purchase of anactivation license for v3.1 or later on a per managed endpoint basis.v Check the Lenovo website for the latest updates for a supported machine type.v Obtain detailed information about available updates on the Lenovo website thatincludes general, installation, and platform information.v Obtain detailed information about Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)updates that includes general and specific packaging information.v Export updates to a CSV or a TXT file using the Generate Updates ComparisonReport function.v Remotely view a journal of update deployments for endpoints using the LenovoSystem Updates tool.v Install updates as a downgrade when applicable. Expire all published updateswith the same update name.How System Updates provides system supportLenovo System Updates for Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, v6.0provides a machine-type based download mechanism that enables you todownload the most recent Lenovo system updates software transparently, withoutthe effort of searching for updates through the Lenovo website.Lenovo System Updates allows you to apply the latest updates without using acatalog file, which may not provide the latest updates.Lenovo System Enablement PackThe Lenovo System Enablement Pack (SEP) contains system-specific codes for thelatest drivers, scripts, binaries, and other files. A new system requires that you have an SEP to support its software tools. You canuse the Lenovo System Updates tool to download and deploy SEP packages anddownload the latest version of UXSPI to support your server from the Lenovowebsite.Note: Before deploying UXSPI to the client machine, ensure that you havedeployed and installed the necessary SEPs.Hardware and software requirementsThe topics in the section provide a description of the hardware and softwarerequirements for Lenovo System Updates.Hardware requirementsThe Lenovo System Updates tool has no specific hardware requirements. For the WindowsServer 2008 operating system, you can use Programs and features to uninstall.v Select the Remove option for the Lenovo System Updates for Microsoft SystemCenter Configuration Manager, v6.0 Installer (EXE) file.v Select the Remove option using Lenovo Integrator Installer (EXE) file.v Select Uninstall from the Start menu.Note: The log files, temporary folders, and the UXSPI upgrade files are not deletedduring the uninstallation process.
