Message from President Orthopaedic Association (POA)It is indeed a ma er of great pleasure for me to write these introductory words for thePakistan Orthopaedic Associa on official fellowship Announcement. The Pakistan Orthopaedic Associa on (POA) has come a long way in its very shorthistory and is expedi ously progressing towards its goal of becoming a leadingprofessional organiza on in the interna onal ranking. The reason of this remarkablesuccess story lies in its constant persuasion and focus on educ on and hands-ontrainings.During the last few years, POA has focused on its na onal fellowship programs. There are 54 opportuni es of na onal fellowships in the following sub special esacross various Centres in Pakistan.1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.ArthroplastyDeformity Correc on & bone regenera onHand surgeryOrthopaedic Oncology (new)Paediatric OrthopaedicsSport Surgery and Arthroscopy (new)Spine SurgeryTraumaLast year we received 74 applica ons for POA Na onal fellowships which shows the interest of young bloodtowards the subspecial es. Selec on of the candidates was through a very transparent process according tocriteria that have been developed by the previous execu ve boards. It would be unfair if we don't men on the effort of research & educa on commi ee and it s Chairman Prof.Anisuddin Bha who scru nized every applica on, and arranged interviews for all the candidates. This year twonew fellowships have been started in the subspecial es of Orthopaedic Oncology and Sport Surgery andArthroscopy. In order to maintain the quality of POA fellowships, POA Execu ve Board has worked the en re year toimprove on the guidelines , criteria for fellowships centers, supervisors and fellows. The new criteria and guide lines developed have been adver sed on the website.Slots for interna onal fellowsPOA board decided to keep three slots for interna onal fellows to be trained in Pakistan. These will be unpaid. These fellowships slots will be adver sed through our web site and foreign fellows can apply to POA to avail theseopportuni es.At the end I would like to emphasize that POA has provided a great pla orm to our young Orthopaedicsurgeons for ge ng subspecial es trainings and fellowships. I can visualize that in near future, surviving withouta subspecialty training in this country will be very difficult for an Orthopaedic surgeon. Now is the me that youcome forward and avail this opportunity so that you don't stay behind in the professional carrier. With best regardsProf. Muhammad Arif KhanPresident, Pakistan Orthopaedic Associa on (POA)Head, Department of Orthopedic and Spine SurgeryKGMC/ HMC, Peshawar, Pakistan

Message from ChairmanPOA Research and Education CommitteeIndeed it is a ma er of great joy and personal sa sfac on for me to see the fruits ofseeds we sow in 2006 to spread Knowledge and transform skill by crea ngOrthopaedic sub-specialty forums. Mentors in Pakistan Orthopaedic fraternity, the“POA” have really worked hard to create & con nuously upgrade the subspecialtyraining centers within Pakistan, not only to share experiences, knowledge but impart“hands on training skill” to our young Orthopods. Some of these MenteesAlhamdulillah! have a ained the status of mentors, transforming their skill veryamicably and have become a great asset to our Orthopaedic Community, “the POA”.The Pakistan Orthocon 2008 was a unique conference in history where the Subspecialty forums held all thesessions and these were the days when 03 sub-specialty centers got recogni on to start super-specialty trainingin Arthroplasty (IOS), Spine (Gurki) and Paediatrics (CHL). In 2012 recognized centers were six, and therea er in2015-2017 there was a fast growth that POA Training & Research commi ee recognized 18 subspecialty centersand today 23 centers are providing subspecialty hands on training Skill in almost all subjects, with a recentinduc on of Ortho-Oncology and Sports Injury / arthroscopy. Till date these Subspecialty centers of POA haveawarded 01-year hand on training to 30 and 06 months training to 6 consultants orthopaedic surgeons. It is a great hard work and enthusiasm of our mentors that they have a ained a status not less than aninterna onal centers that a significant number of “Interna onal applicants” are reques ng for Sub-specialtytraining at our centers in Pakistan, that indeed is a great honour and pres ge for our community, ”the POA”With this preamble, the POA Educa on & Research Commi ee announce 54 scholarships, including Spine,Arthroplasty, Ilizarov, Sports Trauma / Arthroscopy & Ortho-Oncology for POA members, the young Orthopaedicsurgeons. With best regardsProf. Anisuddin BhaChairman, Research and Educa on Commi eePakistan Orthopaedic Associa onProfessor of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Paediatric Orthopaedic SurgeryZiauddin Medical University Hospital, Karachi
