Generally, the tourists carried by the cruise ships are havingshore excursion to Tana Toraja, and those whodon’t join the program could spend some time inParepare to enjoy the beauty of the city bysightseeing around. Parepare has good enoughpotential to take advantage of the tourists thatdon’t join the Tana Toraja shore excursion, that isthe reason why the researchers would like toanalyze the readiness ofParepare handling cruiseship tourism. Theory used by the researchers inthis research is the teory about 3A (Attraction,Accessibility, and Amenity) and cruise shiphandling process. Analysis technique used in thisreasearch is SWOT analysis, by evaluatingstrengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. That all these insights will result conclusion andrecommendation related to the readiness ofParepare handling cruise ship tour.Tourism is a rapidly developing industry today.Tourism is not anymore seen as one single actvity butalso a whole industry that has big opportunity to givepositively big impact to all those who involve in thesector. This tourism industry is blooming as it hasmore various offers available for the tourists. One ofthe activities offered is a tour by cruise ships that isusually called cruise tourism. This cruise tourism isone of the most developing activities today. Activitydevelopment of the cruise ships in Indonesia showsgood escalation, total number of cruise visitIndonesia in these four years keeps going up [1] .TABLE I. There are 3international ports in South Sulawesi Province, theyare Makassar, Parepare, and Palopo. In these recentyears, Parepare becomes port of call visited by cruiseships, most of the sourists carried by the cruise shipwould continue their travel to Tana Toraja throughshore excursion program. Then some of the touristswho don‟t join the program can spend their time onthe ship or sightseeing around the city. Having visitsof various cruise ships, Parepare has excellentpotential to be the main port of call for cruise shiptourists to have a trip. For that reason, Parepareshould be able to take the most advantage of itspotential for attracting the tourists. On another hand,Parepare is currently positioned itself as the transitcity only, since the main destination for the cruiseship tourists is still Tana Toraja. It is expected thatParepare could develop to be more than a transit cityconsidering the potential within. In developing thepotential possessed by the city, the researchers wouldlike to find out the readiness of Parepare handlingcruise ship tourism visit. Finding out the readiness, the researchers view the condition of tourismattractions, accessibility, and amenity, also thehandling process of cruise ships visiting Parepare.Celebrity MilleniumMsSeabour Odyssey5Belawan (Medan)Star cruise6Makassar(Sulawesi Selatan)AegonOdsseySilverseaMs RotterdamCosta RomanticaMV Sevenseas VoyagerPrincess CruiseSea Princess7Parepare(SulawesiSelatan)Orion CruiseAthena CruisesDeutschlandMS ArtaniaSilver DiscoverenceSilverwindMV MinervaCaledonian Sky8Palopo (SulawesiSelatan)AzamaraII.Orion Cruisea.La SolealAeganOdysse9TanjungPeriuk(Jakarta)Theory about Cruise Ship TourismCruise ship tourism is one of the tourismactivity that the world tourists are highly interestedabout. Asia Tourism Forum 2016 – The 12th Biennial Conference of Hospitality and Tourism Industry in Asia (ATF-16)“The ship it self I a floating resort and not asa means of transport” [3]is included in this type should have appealingtourism attraction for the tourists are interested tovisit, such as the culture, nature, or even manmade.“Cruising is defined as a passenger vesseloperating for pleasure purposes only. The ships arenot involved in the transportation industry, likeferries or cargo ships. For the cruiser, it is not amatter of going from A to B; the voyage is a part of aholiday package [4]“Within tourism industry, the term „cruising‟is generally assumed to mean sea cruising. This tend. This tends to imply trips during which the passengeris primarly based on vessel that travels to a numberof destinations, where they disembark for shortperiods to visit land-based sites.” [5]It shortly can be defined that cruise shiptourism is voyage tourism activity using a cruise shipto several destinations where the passengers orcruisers can be off the ship to visit tourism attractionson the destinations briefly. The port used to anchorthe cruise ship oftenly called port of call. The port ofcall itself can be divided into some types based on thecharacteristics and functions. Below is a tabledescribing and pointing out the types .2.Gateway Cruise PortIt is the port that only used as the place to anchorthe ship and not as the main destination to havecruise ship tourism. This type of port is usedonly as „the entrance‟ or connector for thepassengers of cruise ship to have excursionactivity in other destination.3.Balanced Cruise PortIt is the port that used as both main destinastionand the gateway or the connector for the cruiseship passengers. This kind of port has differentcharacteristics from one to another depending onwhat they have to offer to the tourists.b.Cruise Ship Handling TheoryEvery cruise ship that is about to anchor at a portof call should fulfill the conditions and licenserequired. There is a process should be implementedwhen the cruise ship is about to anchor at a port ofcall, they are cruise ship arrival handling process, shore excursion handling process and cruise shipdeparture process [7].TABLE III. The authors – Published by Atlantis PressPopulation and SampleFor population and sample in this research,Sugiyono [11] gives the sense that the "Population isthe generalization region consisting of the objects orsubjects that are of a certain quantity andcharacteristics defined by the researchers to belearned and then drawn conclusions."Suharsimi Arikunto [11] says that "The sample ispart of the population (in part or representative of thepopulation studied). The samples are part of thepopulation is taken as a source of data and canrepresent the whole population. "The sample we took the 90 respondents composedof 80 cruise ship tourists who follow the CaledonianSky shore excursion to Tana Toraja and 10 cruiseship tourists Caledonian Sky conducting Pare-PareCity Tour. In this study we used purposive samplingtechnique and Probability Sampling.According Sugiyono [12] is a purposive samplingtechniques determine the sample with a certainconsideration in accordance with the desireddestination. This sample is more suitable forqualitative research or studies that are not togeneralize.According Sugiyono [12] Probability Sampling issampling techniques that provide equal opportunitiesBased on the explanation above then the problemstatement of the researchers is to find out thereadiness of Parepare handling cruise ship tourismand what are the attractiveness of Parepare for thetourists of the cruise ships based on the factors ofattraction, accessibility, and amenity, also the processhandling cruise ships. How is the condition of the attraction inParepare?Research MethodsTo conduct this research, we use the descriptivemethod to determine what steps should be done inconducting an investigation, in order to lead to theconclusion that the solution for the problem to bestudied.b.RESEARCH QUESTION2.METHODOLOGYThe type of data that will be collected in thisresearch is quantitative data. According to Sugiyono[10] Quantitative research, is research to obtain datain the form of numbers or qualitative data intonumbers.FIGURE I : PROPOSED RESEARCH PROCESSWhat factors make Parepare become the port ofcall of cruise ships all this time? How is the cruise ships handling process inParepare start from the arrival, doing shoreexcursion activity, to the process of departure?“The descriptive method is a method in researchingthe status of a group of people, an object, a set ofconditions, a system of thought, or a class of eventsin the present. The purpose of this descriptive studywas to create a description, picture or painting in asystematic, factual and accurate information on thefacts, the properties of the relationship between thephenomenon investigated.” [9].To know readiness of Pareparebecame port of call that visitedby tourist1.5.a.SWOT AnalysisIII.How is the condition of the amenity in rt ofcall4.0336

Itembodies an internal analysis of strengths andweaknesses and an external analysis of opportunities and threats.” [12]to every element (member) of the population to beelected as members of the sample. These techniques include, Sample randomsampling, stratified random sampling propotionate, disproportionate stratified random sampling, andsampling area.Because in this study rating that we makerespondents were divided into two parts with adisproportionate number ie 80 cruise ship touristswho follow the tour to Tana Toraja and 10 touristscruises conducting Pare-Pare City Tour, and thereforewe use probability sampling technique proportionatestratified random sampling.According Sugiyono [12] Proportionate StratifiedRandom Sampling is a sampling technique used if ithas members or elements that are not homogeneousand stratified proportional. Here is the calculation Proportionate StratifiedRandom Sampling, to determine the accuracy of eachsample of respondents rating that we make. Both conducting tour of Tana Toraja and touristsconducting Pare-Pare City Tour.-The SWOT analysis itself is the method used toevaluate:a. Strengths (strengths)b. Weaknesses (weaknesses)c. Opportunities (opportunities)d. Threats (threats) in a project, program, ororganizational units. The fourth factor is what form the acronym SWOT(strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats).V. CONCLUSION1. Tourist attractionsThe advantages of the tourist attractions in thetown of Parepare is having he diverse touristattractions including nature tours, tourist andexcursions culture. However, the attraction still hassome drawbacks, namely still less well-preservedtourist attraction and not managed properly. In factthere are two sights that are experiencing the problemof land disputes between the community and the localgovernment. In fact based on research, theresearchers did in fact Parepare Town has enoughpotential, but not yet head charms that can be offeredto tourists especially cruise ship tourists.Travelers who follow the tour to Tana Toraja :Tour Tana Toraja (80/90) x 89 79.1 79-Travelers who perform the activity of Pare-PareCity TourPare Pare City Tour (10/90) x 89 9.8 10Based on the above results, thus showing that thenumber of samples that we take for travelers tourTana Toraja many as 80 people and tourists ParepareCity Tour of 10 people rated accurately. For the interview method we will take a sample ofthe Department of Sports, Youth and TourismParepare (Dopp), the Department of Transportation inPare Pare, PELINDO (Pelabuhan Indonesia), KSOP(Kesyahbandaran and Port Authority), Agent Sailing,Main Agent and the Local Agent), and thecommunity Parepare. But the purpose of the "people"here are the people who do business in the field oftourism, such as the community around touristattractions, souvenir shop, and managers of touristattractions.c.2. AccessibilityTo find out the extent to which the readiness ofParepare Town in handling cruise tours, the conditionof accessibility became one of the important aspectsthat must be Watch out for. Based on theobservations of the researchers during field, can Itwas concluded that the condition of accessibility inthe town of Parepare is good access It can be reachedby road or sea. As for public transport can be foundin the town of Parepare is petepete, taxi or rickshaw. The condition of the entire transport can fairly be saidto be but a lack of ground transport in the town ofParepare is the lack of a number of routes inparticular petepete. In addition, the town of Pareparehave sea transport with 4 port which of them is theport of the archipelago which served as the port themain port, pertamina set aside for fuel oil, the port ofCempae, which provided shelter for the fish of thesea and the Cappa Ujung port which served as theport of loading and unloading of goods at the sametime as a backup if the port to 3 other ports are full. From the fourth port, which used to be the port forpassengers is the port of the archipelago withfacilities which are quite adequate. Not only that,Analysis TechniquesIn this study we used a SWOT analysis as dataanalysis techniques. SWOT analysis itself can beinterpreted as follows:"The SWOT analysis (which stands for Strengths,Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats and issometimes Referred to as tows or twos) is the 2016. The authors – Published by Atlantis Press0337

Asia Tourism Forum 2016 – The 12th Biennial Conference of Hospitality and Tourism Industry in Asia (ATF-16)sign boards and road conditions are also included inthe accessibility Parepare. Sign boards that arelocated in the town of Parepare is arguably alreadyadequate, It's just that there are some drawbacks tosign board towards the tourist attractionsas well asthe the absence of a sign board at a tourist attractionitself. Road conditions in Parepare Town is goodbecause it is included in the path of cross-provincejust in size still fairly small.the port of Parepare, the city can meet 4 of the 6factors already mentioned. 6 these factors i.e. Porthas an average depth 35ft (10.75 m) at low tide. Havethe port condition secure and well protected.Gateway port that is located not too far away with thecity Centre as well as being a multifunctional port (asa passenger port, port of call and the loading andunloading of goods). While the 2 factors that have yet to be met by thetown of Parepare i.e. not yet plentiful souvenirs shopeither in the port area as well as in the town ofParepare itself. Then the next factor that has yet to befilled i.e. about professional services, professionalservices, this can be seen in terms of availability offacilities for passengers. In the port of thearchipelago's own facilities available are completeenough, but at the other end of the Cappa availabilityfacilities are still very limited, even the availability oftoilet matter does not exist. Whereas if viewed fromthe aspect of Parepare Town destinations, meet 6 ofthe 7 factors that exist namely presence ofsightseeing/shore excursion. The existence of anexciting nightlife venues. The yacht canaccommodate in the classification of mega ships.Have an interesting activities be it activitiesconducted in water nor activities performed on land.It has a unique cultural and historical value. Have awonderful panoramic view. Then there is one factorthat cannot be met by the town of Parepare i.e. closeto the international airport. Because up to thismoment there is no airport which are quite close tothe town of Parepare, Sultan Hassanudin Airportthere was only located in Maros which is within atime 3-4 hours.3. AmenitasTourist facilities owned by the town of Pareparestill rated less, it can be seen from several factors thatresearchers have found over conduct activities inParepare, the form factor deficiencies such as, Yetthe availability of a souvenir shop. According to [2]Souvenir shop It is one of the aspects that must bepresent if a port of call wants to be made as adestination. In addition, the hotel is owned by thetown of Parepare still classified as a budget classhotel, as well as tour operators are still losingcompete with surrounding cities such as Makassar inSouth Sulawesi, it be demonstrated from someinformation that researchers may be on the majoritytour operator from Makassar that do the handling ofcruise ship tourism in the wile docked at the town ofParepare.4. Cruise Handling ProcessIn the process of handling yachts there are threeimportant process i.e. the process of handling thereturn of the cruise ship, the process of handling theactivities of the shore excursion and the process ofhandling the departure of a cruise ship. Based onobservations the researchers do can be inferred thatthese three processes cruise ship handling is done inthe town of Parepare were in accordance with thetheory of that has been described in CHAPTER II onthe review of the literature on 13-14. Then based onthe observations that have been researchers do, whenviewed from the theory of regarding the type of portof call based on its functions according to Jean PaulRodrigue and Theo Notteboom which has been listedon CHAPTER II on library thing 15 then it can beinferred that the town of Parepare in port of call withgateway-type cruise port. The reason is because up tothis moment the city Parepare port of call being theonly made berths only and not the main destination isvisited by tourists. Main destinations It is usuallyvisited by tourists anchored in Parepare Town isTanaToraja, then only the entrance or just being hubfor cruise ship tourists who want to visit TanaTorajathrough the shore excursion.Upon theory according to Philip Gibson about thefactors that determine a place/region can serve asports of call were good, When seen from the aspect 2016. The authors – Published by Atlantis PressVI. RECOMMENDATIONAt the conclusion of the above researchers havestated that up to this time the town still contains theParepare port of call with the Gateway type CruisePort. But based on the observations of theresearchers, with the potential that is owned by thetown of Parepare both in terms of tourist attractions, accessibility, amenitas as well as the process ofhandling has been done by the town of Parepare indealing with cruise ship tourist, researchersrecommend Parepare Town to be developed into aport of call with the type of Balanced Cruise Port.Port of call with the type of balanced cruise port thisis the port of call that can be used as primarydestinations as well as entrance or liaison for touristcruises that will undertake activities to shoreexcursion in other destinations.0338
