Action Item “VII“Regular Board Meeting March 7, 2011Consideration of Approval of Amendment to the 2010-2011 Budgetfor Restricted Revenue and Expenses Relating to Federal and State GrantsADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION/REPORTThe Chancellor recommends that the Board of Trustees approve an amendment to the 20102011 budget for restricted revenue and expenses related to grants.BACKGROUNDFederal, state, and local grant activity is ongoing as amendments to currently active grants areprocessed and new grants are awarded. In order to fund the objectives of the grants, grantoperating budgets must be established in a timely manner. March 7, 2011 Board Book – Grant Amendments Detail ListNational Aeronautics and Space Administration - Strategic Education Alliance (SEA) Grant(Year 5) (Incremental Funding)The San Jacinto College Aerospace & Biotechnology Academy is the prime recipient for thisfive-year cooperative agreement. The Academy is responsible for staffing, fiscal, and programmanagement of the five program areas: Reduced Gravity Student Flight Program, MinorityResearch & Education Program, Education Information Technology: IT Projects Planning,Higher Education Student Programs, and Texas Aerospace Scholars.Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board - Alternative Teacher Certification Program (NewGrant)This program is for individuals who possess a degree. It includes accelerated routes intoteaching, offers training on how to be an effective teacher, as well as additional courses aprospective teacher might need in the subject area of choice. Action Item “VIII“Regular Board Meeting March 7, 2011Consideration of Approval to Modify Certain Incidental & Lab FeesADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION/REPORTThe Chancellor recommends that the Board of Trustees approve certain modifications to theCollege’s incidental and lab fee schedule. Such changes would be effective for the Summerand Fall 2011 semesters.BACKGROUNDThe fee changes have been recommended and approved through the Fall 2010 curriculumprocess. All curriculum revisions including incidental and laboratory fees are reviewed andapproved by campus instructional affairs committees and the instruction and student servicescouncil.IMPACT OF THIS ACTIONAdoption of the fee recommendations will establish new or modified fee charges for studentsfor the Summer and Fall 2011 semesters. New fees are either due to new course offerings oradditional course requirements that necessitated establishment of new fees. As anoutcome of this growth, it is necessary for San Jacinto College to provide an updatednotification to THECB identifying those areas in which San Jacinto College offers 50 percentor more of the course work required for such degrees in a distance learning modality.IMPACT OF THIS ACTIONThis action complies with requirements of THECB.
