HOW TO LEAVE A GIFT IN YOUR WILLAfter taking care of family and friends, includinga gift in your Will to Unicef is an incredible way tosupport the world’s children. There are two mainways to leave a gift to Unicef in your will.Residuary gifts: A residuary gift is a share ofsomeone’s estate. This type of gift guarantees a fairdistribution among all the people you want to benefit.Pecuniary gifts: A pecuniary gift is a fixed sumof money. If you would like to protect the valueof your gift from diminishing over the years, youcould think about index linking the sum that yougive to Unicef.Twelve-month-old Maya from Mali was suffering fromsevere acute malnutrition, but is on the mend thanks totherapeutic milk and medication supplied by Unicef.U N I C E F. O R G . U K / L E G A C Y- G U I D E Unicef/CoulibalyWe always encourage you to give a gift withoutrestricting its usage, because we don’t knowwhere our focus will be most needed when wereceive your gift. Unrestricted gifts allow us to reachchildren who most need support – wherever they are.

M AK ING O R UPDATING YO U R W I L L126Think about your assetsSpend time listing the assets you own, their worth andwhether you share ownership. You should also think aboutany debts, and estimate their value, as these will reduceyour estate. Consider how and where information aboutyour estate is kept so you can plan how to give secureaccess to this. Unicef/AbdulWhen making or updating your Will, we recommend you get professionaladvice from a solicitor. These tips will help with your preparation before seeinga Will-making professional.Appoint roles in your WillYour Executors are the people named in your Will whowill look after your estate after your death. They can befamily members and/or friends, professionals or evenorganisations (like a bank). Your Executors should bepeople you trust to look after everything and carry outyour wishes in your Will. If choosing loved ones to beExecutors, it is a good idea to discuss this with them,to make sure they are happy to be appointed.Baby Najib is vaccinated against polio, Uganda.U N I C E F. O R G .
